Still Life of Flowers and Fruit Works of arts have some type of historical background. Artists have some type of intention for their artwork. Artists have these intentions for calling objects that were not created by them to be considered works of art. The year that an artwork was created can tell a lot about the work. When trying to figure out the meaning behind an artwork, it makes viewers understand the way the work of art is arranged. While artists create works of art, in this paper it will cover Still Life of Flowers and Fruits by Jan Van …show more content…
One of the flowers that were in the art work was a symbol of Christ. The Flowers were compared to Christ because in the Christian religion he sacrificed his life for others and eventually the humans will live a short life and die. The flowers have short lives and there is a certain type of flower that symbolizes Christ. In “Huysum Still Life” The artist uses flowers and fruits with insects in the artwork to convey more of a nature theme. The flower, fruit, and insect in “Huysum Still Life” symbolize short life in nature. These three listed were put in the painting because of the similar symbolization. Pairings within bouquets — such as an opium poppy symbolizing the night and a morning glory standing for day — enriched the viewer's meditation on these themes (Packer,7). Huysum work conveys that the blossoms and flowers quality is a symbol of how life is running out time, meaning its short. How morning and night come and go quickly and it’s just for one whole day. “Huysum Still Life” symbols consist of how short life is through flowers and fruits. Furthermore, “Huysum Still Life” was made in 1715, and floral paintings were important to the Dutch and Netherlands. Huysum was an excellent artist around that time period. Fred G. He likely had the market in mind in painting this still life. Van Gogh was clearly attracted to the shapes and hues of the citrus fruit arrayed in the wicker basket, and the way their varied orb shapes play against the weave of the dried sticks, the whole set off by the prickly needles of the cypress branches. ...Norton Simon Museum "Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Rose", 1633  My Introduction to Art summer class requires a few visits to local museums.  The first museum we visited as a class was Norton Simon Museum, which is located in the city of Pasadena, CA. We visited the Norton Simon Museum on Saturday July 13, 2013. It was a hot summer day; this was a perfect day to visit a museum.  Most of the class took the same shuttle bus to the museum.  When we arrived at the museum we were allowed to explore / admire the cool art pieces on our own. It was a really beautiful museum and they had a big collection. I think you can’t really have enough with one visit. I plan on making future trips to this museum to explore all the art pieces and learn more about the pieces.  The piece that got my attention was “Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Rose” by Francisco de Zurbaran.  This piece was painted on an oil canvas and measures 24 ½ X 43 1/8 In.  This is the only still life Zurbaran signed in his life, at the lower right corner. In the painting, we can see a plate with citrons (not lemons), a basket of oranges and another plate with a cup, next to a rose.   The artist used many elements of form in this painting.
