1. What are three things you wish you’d known before opening your syringe exchange program? (MPH students: This could be anything, large or small...slang terms for the drugs, how to write a grant, how to prevent staff burnout, etc. If they weren’t around for the beginning of the program, what are three things they wish they knew before taking the job?)

1.

2.

3.

2. What issues have you experienced in working with law enforcement? How were these issues resolved? (MPH students: This is one of the most important questions. If there were issues with law enforcement, we need to know how they dealt/are dealing with the issue. For example, are they making presentation to the new academy recruits before they hit the streets? Do they have the support of the police chief? etc.)

3. What issues have you experienced in bolstering community buy in? How were these issues resolved? (MPH students: This is one of the most important questions. If there were issues with community support, we need to know how they dealt/are dealing with the issue. For example, did they speak with elected officials and community stakeholders? Hold open forums? etc.)

4. What issues have you experienced in linking clients with available services? How were these issues resolved? (MPH students: This is one of the most important questions. If there were issues with linking clients with services, we need to know how they dealt/are dealing with the issue. For example, do they have a relationship with local treatment programs? etc.)

5. What other words of wisdom do you have to share with Nevada as we go forward in opening syringe exchange programs in our states? (MPH students: this is their opportunity to tell us what they have learned that might be unique to their program. This could be something like engaging their clients in program design, using dealers to promote their program via word of mouth, offering incentives (for example $5 gift card for every 40 used syringes returned), etc.)

6. Do you have any curriculum to share that might be helpful to Nevada as we go forward in opening our syringe exchange programs? (MPH students: curriculum could be literally anything (power points, brochures, intake forms, client ID cards, etc). If they are willing to share anything, accept it. We want to be able to show new SEPs what existing SEPs are using so they can model their own stuff after what has already been successful. Make sure they know these resources will be shared with new programs in Nevada so they can use existing materials as a template for their new documents.)

YES OR NO

If they are willing to share curriculum, they can send it to me at jflen@health.nv.gov or to you (and then please send the materials to me).

Or I can contact them to get the documents, as long as their email is listed and you make a note of it.

7. Would we be willing to share any Memorandums of Understanding between your syringe exchange programs and various entities within your community? (MPH students: a MoU is a document that shows convergence of will between parties, which indicates an intended common line of action. They might hold these with local law enforcement, the community, etc.)

8. How do you track utilization of your syringe exchange program? (MPH students:
This question is also very important! For example, we need to know if they are using ID cards to track use of their program. This information could include demographic information, living situation, drug of choice, etc. We would also like to know how they formulate the ID cards/numbers to be confidential.)

9. Would you be willing to be listed as a contact for advice and resources for any future questions that may arise? (MPH students: This question allows them to be listed as a resource for new programs. Ideally, new syringe exchange programs will be able to look in the appendix and say “Jane Doe from New Jersey had a similar issue with her program, I’d like to call her and find out more details about how she addressed the issue.”)

10. Please leave your contact information for any follow up questions. (MPH students: this information is important because we plan to create a directory of people who are willing to help with any problems that arise with new programs--we need to be able to list accurate contact information. If they have declined to be listed as a contact for advice and resources, please gather their contact information anyway. I still need a way to get a hold of them, and I need the information to keep an accurate list of who has been contacted.)

What is your name?

May I verify the name of your agency: STATE THE NAME OF AGENCY

What is your address:

Street:

City/Town:

State:

ZIP/Postal Code:

What is your E-mail Address:

What phone number should we use for your program?

Those are all the questions I have. Thank you for your time. Have a good day!

I Read It but I Don't Get It

...I read it but I don’t get it[1] The title of my article is a title of a book by Cris Tovani but more of that later! I want to explore why I feel that Ken Rowe’s literacy report misses the complexity of literacy development in young people– at least from my secondary perspective. Of course he covers some bases and on the surface suggests a balanced approach. He is also right that teachers need to be better educated about reading practices. However, the emphasis on phonics which has been widely reported in the media appears disproportionate to its usefulness. Some students can manage to read and spell without phonics so why do we need to occupy their brains with phonemes or phonic practices. Others need them. The informed primary teacher differentiates accordingly. What Ken Rowe does not focus on is the literacy needs of young people in secondary schools where decoding is less of a problem than comprehension. For many students reading is meaningless – particularly fiction. The Four Resource Model of Allan Luke and Peter Freebody[2] outlines what students need to do as they read: Effective literacy draws on a repertoire of practices that allow learners, as they engage in reading and writing activities, to: • break the code of texts: recognising and using the fundamental features and architecture of written texts including: alphabet, sounds in words, spelling, conventions and patterns of sentence structure and text • participate in the......

I Don't

...Problem 3 Now I will explain why the NPVs of these two approaches are different. For Approach A, NPV is calculated using cash flows denoted in Peso and interest rate in Mexico and then transferred into Euro at the lowest exchange rate in 2008, which is 15.99 MXN/EUR. This is equivalent to using a constant exchange rate of 15.99 to transfer Peso into Euro every year. On the other hand, for approach B, cash flows are transferred into Euro every year and NPV is calculated using cash flows denoted in Euro and interest rate in France. Since Peso is depreciating across time, cash flows are transferred into Euro using a series of increasing exchange rates. Cash flows in Approach B are lower than those in Approach A. Therefore, NPV denoted in Euro for Approach B is higher than that for Approach A. Problem 4 If the inflation in Mexico is 3%, which is the same as that in France, the nominal interest rate in Mexico will be the same as that in France according to International Fisher Effect. So the discount rate will be the same. According to the Interest Rate Parity, the exchange rate between these two currencies will stay the same due to the same nominal interest rate. Thus, the cash flows denoted in Euro for these two approaches will be same. Since both cash flows and discount rate are the same for these two approaches, NPV will be the same. You can see the calculations in this spread sheet. Both approaches give you the same NPV if both countries have the same inflation rate. ...

I Just Wanna Be Average

...Mitchell Jean-Louis Writing 101 I Just Wanna Be Average In “I Just Wanna Be Average” by Mike Rose says, “students will float to the mark you set” (164). Also, He discusses his four years of high school. He expresses his failure during school and his success in the story. How a highly successful teacher supported and encourage Rose to stay consist in school. My High School years, I had to take a 4 long year, 720 day journey in High School. It was a Roller coaster ride with up’s and down’s as I begun with my freshmen year. I went to school without knowing the techniques to maintain a GPA or balance school work and activities. That didn’t stop me I was Mr. popular guy, the man everybody wanted to know; I was the man. My grades were not good; the teachers thought I was going to be on a 5 year plan. I was happy to have wonderful teachers who actually cared enough to help me. But as Rose explained “the teacher had no idea on how to engage the imaginations of us kids who were scuttling along at the bottom of the pond” (185) . The most important part of education is having someone who can teach you and help you understand as well as you possibly can. While I was working on my grades, I wanted to play on the basketball team. That was my dream. I wanted to hear the crowd cheering my name, and the faces of our opponents when they lose. I wanted to be a part of that but I didn’t have the grades therefore that moment I want set a goal that would change my life and focus. A year......

I Don't Speak White

...Pathos Positioned Research Paper: Language Identified with Race and Minority “I Don’t Speak White” Written by Kendra Alexander Your language is your identity; the way you speak depends on your environment and the people surrounding you. Race and ethnicity are not huge factors in the way one expresses themselves. While some associate certain slang verbiage with the African American race, each ethnicity and race have their own “slang” or abbreviations they use. The way we communicate within our social groups connects us to one another. Edward Sapir, in Language: an Introduction to the Study of Speech, stated “Language is the most massive and inclusive art we know, a mountainous and anonymous work of unconscious generations.”  Every culture creates their own language, they find a way to clarify themselves amongst each group, whom is to say one language is better than the other. Negative connotations can be placed on the way one speaks due to their background, or ethnicity. If a minority person speaks “well”, along with these negative race connotations, the person is then seen as acting as though they are the “superior” race. Language can connect us, but it can also segregate our defined cultures. Language and behavior tend to be associated with race, class, and popularity. The connotations of language and race create the “acting white” phenomenon showing that basic stereotypes still exist unrealized or unnoticed, and not only affect social aspects of a person’s life......

I Donthave Anything to Upload

...1b) to what extent are things only good because God commands them? (10) To find out the extent to which things are only good because of God commanding them you would first have to decide whether an action or thing becomes good because of God commanding it or if it is good before. Other questions which should be examined include whether the things God has commanded you to do are actually ‘good’ and if the things God has said are wrong and immoral really are. Personally I believe that many things can be good even if God has not declared it to be so and this point has become increasingly obvious throughout time; one of the most renowned and obviously ridiculous examples of things that God has informed us is not ‘good’ is homosexuality. In my opinion this is the best example of why the answer to our question is a ‘very small extent’; God, Christianity and many other religions are absolutely against homosexuality with no exceptions at all taking a strictly deontological view on the matter. Despite the act you would think, not hurting anyone Leviticus 18:22 clearly states that this is an abomination and those who practice homosexuality should be put to death, yet the entire religion of Christianity is based upon love, love of oneself, love of your neighbour, and most importantly love of God. But why should the love of another man be considered evil? God has clearly commanded that humans should not be gay and that the act is wrong, evil, and most poignantly not ‘good’ but then......

...add marking criteria/link to AQA page; apply criteria to a piece of writing from last year’s students ➢ Collating evidence – there are two kinds of evidence – quotations from the text itself, which you can use to analyse for language and to support your interpretation; and quotations from critics who have interpreted the text, which you can use to support your own interpretation. You need to make sure that you don’t use a critic to make your point, but to support it once you have made it. (don’t forget to keep page numbers, in case you need to go back and find the context later); critical comments (ie either on the text itself, or explaining a critical position – don’t forget to note the publication details and page numbers); reviews; ways of using evidence (eg in a sentence) ➢ Organising ideas and designing the structure Once you have gathered your evidence, you need to spend some time considering how you can usefully organise your information to answer the question. ...As you know I have been working to analyze the relevant costs in regards to the quality variations we’ve been encountering for our Ply Carrier project. Though all costs types apply in some respect, you will find that some costs are more relevant to our current situation than others. You will find the three costs (appraisal, prevention, and failure) detailed below: For the most part, we already have the applicable quality measures that relate to our Appraisal costs in place. A quality inspection is completed every time a Ply Carrier is completed, this inspection is done with the proper updated form, equipment, and by someone other than the person who produced the original part. Though these items are done with regulated consistency, there is the continued possibility of human error. The periodical analysis of the quality assurance forms could provide us additional insight into our production process. As of right now, we do not use the QA forms for anything other than an insight if an external failure occurs; evaluating these forms to gain a broader understanding of our products random and non-random variations could reduce costs in the long run. Preventative costs are more relative to our current production process. Though we have minor policies in place that prevent defects from appearing during the production process, they are not regulated diligently and sometimes do not occur at all. Out of the 15 materials that are used to create a Ply Carrier, only the Upper......

...propagandizing, which Orwell portrays as one example of how the elite class abuses language to control the lower classes. Although the slogan seems to help the animals achieve their goal at first, enabling them to clarify in their minds the principles that they support, it soon becomes a meaningless sound bleated by the sheep (“two legs baa-d”), serving no purpose other than to drown out dissenting opinion. By the end of the novel, as the propaganda needs of the leadership change, the pigs alter the chant to the similar-sounding but completely antithetical “Four legs good, two legs better.” 2. Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime, Hearken to my joyful tiding Of the golden future time. These lines from Chapter I constitute the first verse of the song that Old Major hears in his dream and which he teaches to the rest of the animals during the fateful meeting in the barn. Like the communist anthem “Internationale,” on which it is based, “Beasts of England” stirs the emotions of the animals and fires their revolutionary idealism. As it spreads rapidly across the region, the song gives the beasts both courage and solace on many occasions. The lofty optimism of the words “golden future time,” which appear in the last verse as well, serves to keep the animals focused on the Rebellion’s goals so that they will ignore the suffering along the way. Later, however, once Napoleon has cemented his control over the farm, the song’s revolutionary nature......
