As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. It’s very time consuming, student papers highly outnumber the teachers. College essays can be long as 100 pages. Grading a 100 page essay for 15-20 students can get extra stressful if you ask me. Not to mention that they actually have a life to live. Rebecca stated in her article that “I’ve graded drafts and assigned rewrites, and that helps the good students get better, but the bad students, the ones I’m trying to help, just fail to turn in any drafts at all. Meanwhile, I come up for air and realize that with all this extra grading, I’m making 75 cents an hour.” I can definitely sympathize with teachers on this issue. ...the worst I would have to say that I am at a two. For me that means I have no clue what that even means any more now that I have children. I have three children, go to school and work two jobs. We live in an age where information is freely available. The internet has made that possible, also making cheating a task that is easily accomplished. People download music and movies the same way they can download a term paper. You can download a song, burn it to a CD, and put it in your car and listen to it without any realistic consequences. ...and Contrast After the reading the two papers I would defiantly have to say that the second paper is the better of the two. The author stuck to the guidelines of the paper better then the first author in a number of different ways. The author also did a much better job of letting the reader actually understand what was going on in Russia during the time period that was being discussed. The author of the first paper did not follow the format that was set for the paper to being with. In the directions it was clearly stated that the pages needed to be numbered and the author failed to do that. The directions also said too not use to many quotations from the reading and the paper was full of them from beginning to end. I don't know how strictly the professor will stand by his/her requirements but the author did not write the required length. I made a giant sugar cookie and frosted it and turned around to get milk and I turn around and his front feet are on the counter and he’s running away with my delicious cookie (with a glut of sugar in it. I guess it was good I didn’t get to eat it?) Anyways, I’ve had a productive day. Yesterday (Saturday), after sitting on my floor using my iPod and texting, going on social media, and playing mobile-phone games all day, I realized that - even though I could succumb to sitting on my floor doing nothing (which is a lot easier than doing something way more interesting) – actually doing something productive with my life makes me feel a lot better about myself. Now I like to switch back and forth from different times as I write. Like right now I can hear people playing softball at the school, each one of them vying for their team to win. And the fact that my dog stole my cookie has left me discombobulated and not being able to focus on a single sentence, as I long for that cookie, with its not-so-subtle sugary flavor.
