A Major Accident

...Fahad Al Ashban ENG107 A major accident I never expected that I would have a major accident, but I had a very strong accident that I saw my whole life in front of me and it was the first moment that I saw death in front of me. I was going to my friend’s house with my brand new car when I had an accident and my car went upside down. I didn’t know what happened to me or even what I did before I had this accident, and the thing that made it worse that I was going to my friend’s house to study with him for my final exam which was physics and it was two days after the accident. This accident changed my whole life and my whole understanding of driving a car, after this accident I started to put my seatbelt on when I drive and I started to drive more safely. The accident was three years ago in Saudi Arabia before my final exam, I was 17 years old at my 11th grade, at that time I liked to drive a lot because I recently took my driver license and I was very happy with it. I remember that when I would get bored from studying I would go to the grocery store that is a few meters away of our house with my car and after I get a coke from there I go around my neighborhood just because I want to drive and also because I am driving my brand new car. That car was Toyota, I remember that I suffered a lot to get this car; my father said always that I can’t get an expensive car because it’s my first car and the first car always should be a cheap car. He at first wanted me to take Yaris because...

Volta Region, GHANA Corresponding author’s e-mail : oomaxi@yahoo.com, Tel. +233 244979950 Abstract This paper examines driver’s knowledge concerning road sign usage along an international route in Ghana. There were two stages for the data collection. First, an observational study was conducted to determine the specific road signs along the route. Second, questionnaires were administered to 50 drivers who regularly drove on this route to assess their understanding of those road signs. The study shows that various road signs and markings are along the route. Hump ridge ramps are the dominant road signs observed coupled with pedestrian crossing warning sign posts. Most drivers do not recognize common road signs and markings hence their memorability, remembrance and application during driving is difficult. Main contributing factors are driver’s not professional trained and symbolic nature of the road signs. Challenges encountered during road sign usage include size of road sign indicating situations, visibility, reflectivity and placement...

...Introduction The journey to Mount Everest was a tragedy and a sorrowful one at that. A journey that was expectant on great victory turned to a grave catastrophe. A reflection of what happened nearly two decades ago reveals likely flaws taken at the time. Rob Hall and Scott Fischer were the leaders of two of the largest commercial expeditions on Everest in the spring of 1996. In the years leading up to the expedition, the climbing seasons had been tame and had drawn much less experienced climbers to teams of Fischer and Halls’. Although both leaders were highly qualified, it would seem the room for error was slim, so much so that errors made may have cost the loss of life. In retrospect, could any of the decisions made have altered the final outcome. Analyzing the study from the points of leadership, communication, trust, motivation, timing, planning, and prudence,...

...Section 1 Medicine and treatment Chapter 3: Extension study: Medicine and public health from Roman Britain to c1350 3.1 The Romans and approaches to medicine Exam practice question 1 (page 17) The Romans believed that disease was caused by an imbalance in the Four Humours. They believed that the body was made up of black bile, yellow bile, blood and phlegm, and that too much or not enough of one of these would cause illness. A fever, for example, showed that you had too much blood. This belief was developed by Galen from the work of Hippocrates, an Ancient Greek doctor. The Romans also believed that bad air could cause disease. They thought it was important to build cities and settlements away from swamps and marshes. This would have helped them avoid diseases like malarias which were caused by mosquitoes, but they didn’t understand why. The Romans also believed that dirt and sedentary lifestyles caused disease, because they encouraged the population to bathe regularly and exercise in the bath house. However, they would not have understood why this kept people healthy. Exam practice question 2 (page 18) In some ways the influence of Hippocrates on Roman medicine was extremely important. Hippocrates’s teachings included the theory of the four humours, which taught that the body was made up of four elements and too much of one of these would cause illness. He also taught the importance of clinical observation: watching a patient very carefully and keeping detailed...
