Reflection
During my first year of college, I have made things for me way harder then they had to be. Specifically in my spring semester of college when I began to take the class of English Composition 1. Taught by the brilliant and marvelous Ms. Ravick, English Comp. 1 was by far my toughest class of the semester. Throughout my semester of English Comp. 1 I have gain the enjoyment of writing essays, coming up with my own ideas, and stop repeating my writing when I write essays.
Coming into English 101 freshman year was something that I was kinda afraid of. In high school English class never served as my strong point and I found myself constantly frustrated and confused as to why I never got the grade I felt I deserved. I would write essays to get it over with, using other people’s thoughts and ideas to support my less important thoughts and ideas about the subject. I never felt connected with any papers that I was asked to write and it showed, so coming into college being forced to do it all over again was definitely something I feared and something I wanted to get over with, but now I find myself enjoying writing. I have always written freely or on my own, but I find myself now able to sit down and enjoy writing an essay again.
I enjoy the process of coming up with my own ideas and concepts and trying to make an argument for my reader so they can also take my side in that argument. With this class, I have learned to enjoy writing again. I have made it a point to communicate my own thoughts and feelings opposed to simply the thoughts of famous writers and authors before me. This class has built up my confidence in my own writing and for that I am grateful. I would have never obtain a major increase in my writing skill if I have not taking this seriously.
One of the main issues I needed to tackle in college was to stop being repetitive; I needed to learn to narrow down my thoughts and ideas. This is something that now I can do with ease. I am able to sit down and revise my thesis and my ideas with structured outlines so much that in a way it forces me to come up with specific examples directly relating to my thesis. I have learned to write freely structured outlines to get the thought process going, something that saves me a lot of time when I am making my full drafts. Before this course I wrote three body paragraphs with two to three supporting quotes in each one and a basic summary of each quote. The only part of the paragraph that would be mine would be the topic sentence, everything else was evidence I found from other authors.
This year, I have learned to use my own voice to communicate my ideas. I have learned to utilize outside sources in a way where they simply keep the flow of my paper, and are not the main focus. I have also stopped “jumping around” throughout my papers. I now stick with one point and after a thorough discussion on it; I am able to move on to the next concept, without constantly bringing in old ideas and things that I stated earlier on in the paper. Throughout this semester I find myself getting better and better with each paper and truly demonstrating that I have learned and I have grown, and I hope to continue this growth throughout my time here at Jackson State.

A Holiday I Would Never Forget

...as teachers) jumping for joy. Hello, waking up late, celebrating, goin for tuition and best of all, vacations! In myy case, a holiday I would never forget is a fruitful one I expereinced five years ago, where my family I spent six days in the land of K-Pop and ' kimchi '- Korea. Finally, after ages of waiting, our family arrived in beautiful Korea. Stepping out of the plane, we could feel the chilly weather to our bones. Never experiencing that kind of weather, my siblings and I were totally excited. Passing through immigration and baggage claim, we were talking animatedly about our new surroundings. Since we went with tour group, we knew we were in good hands. Incident number one. We were supposed to take a bus to check in at the hotel, as instructed. I guessed I was overeager and without thinking. I ran to a random bus and knocked on the door. The young bus driver opened the door and looked at me with a puzzled expression. He started asking me something in Korean, which of course I did not understand. I tried to reply in English, but before I could make the attempt, my father quickly apologized to the driver and walked me back to the tour group who was watching from afar, shaking with laughter. It turned out that the bus I was running to was not the bus we were supposed to take. I dismissed my burning cheeks. I was glad I could be the butt of everyone's jokes on my first day in a foreign country. It was a bit past lunch time when we were done...

One Day I Could Never Forget

...One Day I Could Never Forget Christina Behm COMM/215 09/01/2015 Glenn Dayley One Day I Could Never Forget There I was sitting in my car, rewinding the day in my head like a video on slow rewind. Today was my first day as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and I bolted through the doors excited about my new job, only to have been meet in the face with a stench that you could not deny that was of urine and feces. My first reaction was to throw up, I thought how can these people breathe in here? Do they change these people? Give them showers? Surely something had to be done about the smell. When I asked, I was told I would get used to it. To me, I didn’t understand why or how we could let our elders smell like that. If they refused a shower, then to me we should be giving them a bed bath. The patients needed some form of cleaning daily. I had 13 patients on my list to get up for breakfast and shower or bed bath before breakfast. I started on my list, only to find that if I wanted things done right then it takes a lot longer than the allotted time. So that means that some of the 13 patients that are awake in the morning more than half of them do not receive proper care. You are rushed from the minute you clock in until you clock out. Still not finishing everything that needed to be done. I finished with breakfast, one of my ladies didn’t get up for breakfast, so after breakfast I went in to check on her and I couldn’t get any response from her. I flagged down the DON (Director...

Night By Elie Wiesel Essay

...Never Forget Darkness and sorrow thrived during the Holocaust as the world experienced events that had taken place when the power was given under false pretences to a cruel person. The tragic and terrifying event continually haunts the world today. Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, describes his terrible sightings during the Holocaust. He was fifteen when his family, along with himself, arrived at Auschwitz, a death camp. Elie was separated from his mother and three sisters, but remained with his father. In Night, Elie Wiesel uses foreshadowing, symbolism, and tone to portray the inhumane conditions that occurred during his experiences and the ripple effect of harm it caused. Elie uses foreshadowing to hint that something terrible is coming. “Moishe was not the same. The joy in his eyes was gone. He spoke only of what he had seen. But people not only refused to believe his tales, they refused to listen. Some even insinuated that he only wanted their pity, that he was imagining things” (7). Moishe has seen what was hurdling towards them. He had already lived through it. The...

Elie Wiesel Night Quotes

...Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber, I rebelled. Because He had had thousands of children burned in his pits? Because He kept six crematories working night and day, on Sundays and feast days? Because on His great might, He had created Auschwitz, Bierkenau, Buna, and so many factories of death" (64)? "So much has happened within such a few hours that I had lost all sense of time. When had we left our houses? And the ghetto? And the train? Was it only a week? One night- one single night" (34)? "I did not fast, mainly to please my father, who had forbidden me to do so. But further, there was no longer any reason why I should fast. I no longer accepted God's silence. As I swallowed my bowl of soup, I saw in the gesture an act of rebellion and protest against Him" (66). "Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never" (32). "To hang a...

Night Elie Wiesel Night Analysis

...To help it from not happening again, when the little boy he was asked the man he's become Wiesel's speech says, "That I have tried to keep the memory alive, that I have tried to fight those who would forget" (Wiesel 118). For Wiesel he is informing the people of remembering the Holocaust as a memory to honor all survived and those who did not. He does not want this horrible situation to ever be forgotten. Peter Fischl also wants to keep the memory alive. In the second section of his poem he writes, "Ten billion miles high will be the monument / so the whole universe can remember you / Little polish boy." (Fischl15-16-17 ). Fischl feels displeased with the world because they didn’t do anything about the situation. He is trying to inform people to speak up and not to let this happen again by saying that he would build an overly large monument in memory of the little polish boy. The size of the monument relates to how passionate Fischl is about not forgetting the boy, or the holocaust in general. Therefore, both Elie Wiesel and Peter Fischl are trying to speak up and remind people not to forget about the...

In the book Night, all Elie had was memories of his mom and sister because the day they parted ways was the last time they would see each other.     “And I did not know that in that place, at that moment, I was parting from my mother and sister forever.” In the book Night, Elie and his father are separated from his mom and sister. At that moment Elie didn’t know that was the last time he would see his mom and sister. The Right Time to Lose a Patient

...Patient Although there is really never a right time to die or even witness death, it is important to acknowledge that death is a reality, and that all health care practitioners will be subjected to death at some point. For that reason, I raise the question; is there an appropriate time to lose a patient? From my perspective the answer is yes, and for good reason. Having recently finished twelve weeks of Internal Medicine, the first of my core third year rotations, I vividly remember the excitement I felt when walking into the hospital. I knew all the work I accomplished in the classroom was about to be put to good use. I had the opportunity to help interns, residents, and attendings to positively impact individuals’ lives. I would see patients with diseases that I had previously only encountered in textbooks, although I knew that these textbooks rarely highlight and explain the pain and suffering that accompany these pathologies. In fact, my studies to that point had left me with some naivete, which I must assume all medical students experience when first starting clinical work. We are excited to see cases we read about, although we often forget that many of these ailments take the lives of those afflicted. Throughout our education, we transform conditions into hypothetical situations, rarely developing an understanding of their severity. It is easy to regard a set of symptoms as fiction or case study, and it was only through experience that I discovered that we must not be...

Change In Eliezer Wiesel's Night

...“I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation.” This quote, said by Eliezer Wiesel, exemplifies one of the many ways Eliezer has changed from the book Night. Night revolves around Eliezer and his father, and the long, dreadful journey they had from being in multiple concentration camps, from Birkenau to Buna to Auschwitz. From this experience, Eliezer has changed dramatically in many different ways. He has transformed into a new person by realizing and understanding that human suffering exists, and he has also become a lot less faithful. The first way Eliezer has changed is by realizing that the world is cruel, and that human suffering exists. When Eliezer first arrived at Birkenau, he saw...

...Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel, a young Jewish boy, who tells of his experiences during the Holocaust. Elie is a deeply religious boy whose favorite activities are studying the Talmud and spending time at the Temple with his spiritual mentor, Moshe the Beadle. At an early age, Elie has a naive, yet strong faith in God. But this faith is tested when the Nazi’s moves him from his small town. Night begins in 1941, when Elie, is twelve years old. Having grown up in a little town called Sighet in Transylvania, Elie is a studious, deeply religious boy with a loving family consisting of his parents and three sisters. One day, Moshe the Beadle, a Jew from Sighet, deported in 1942, with whom Elie had once studied the cabbala, comes back and warns the town of the impending dangers of the German army. No one listens and years pass by. But by 1944, Germans are already in the town of Sighet and they set up ghettos for the Jews. After a while, the Germans begin the deportation of the Jews to the concentration camp in Auschwitz. After a brief stay at Auschwitz, they are moved to a new camp, Buna. At Buna, Elie goes through the dehumanizing process of the concentration camps. Both he and his father experience severe beatings at the hand of the kapos. All the prisoners are overworked and undernourished. Many lose faith in God, including Elie. He witnesses several hangings, one of a boy with an angelic face, and sees him struggle for over thirty minutes fighting for his life. To...

Self-Preservation In Streetcar Named Desire, Hamlet, Night,

...word, they would tremble in fear because they had already known what was going to happen to a select few of them. A quote from the book Night says, "We had already lived through so much that night, we thought nothing could frighten us anymore. But his clipped words made us tremble. Here the word 'furnace' was not a word of empty meaning: it floated on the air, mingling with the smoke." The book also stated, "Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. As treacherous as that sounds, it is very sad to say that that isn't even the cruelest thing that Germans did to the Jews. For fun, the German soldiers would just randomly shoot their workers. Another quote from the book says, " When they had finished their work, the men from the Gestapo began theirs. Without passion or haste, they shot their prisoners, who were forced to approach the trench one by one and...
