An Interview with Melody George
Melody George is an account coordinator with Clarins cosmetic company working for Macy’s Santa Anita in Arcadia, California. She has worked twelve years in cosmetics with Macy’s. Ms. George has a background in communications and had worked in the technology sector before realizing that she wanted a more sociable career and started working in cosmetics with Bath and Body works. In time, she found herself working for the cosmetics company Origins as a liaison between her cosmetics counter and Macy’s. In the U.S.A, people can shop at Macy’s in almost every single shopping mall. Macy’s, Inc. is one of the nation’s premier retailers. It has brands with about 840 department stores in 45 states. Ms. George, a saleswoman working at Clarins Group in Macy’s. Clarins is a French luxury cosmetics company, which manufactures prestige skincare, makeup and fragrances products. She had an interview with us during her lunch break. Around her working place there are a lot of other brands that sell similar markup products, which could be very competitive market in Macy’s. We wanted to know more about how salesmen convince potential customers to purchase their products, so this interview was majority made to solve this question.
Our interview consisted of asking Ms. George several questions relevant to the marketing aspect of working for such a prestigious company as Clarins from a retail store as world renowned as Macy’s. We asked her several questions pertaining to attracting and retaining a solid customer base as well as questioning her as to the most effective methods of attracting new clientele. We attempted to delve deep into the inner workings of her profession from a marketing standpoint, and she provided us with several insights into the world of marketing. Ms. George provided us with ideas that are key to a successful pursuit
