She talks about that you don’t need to put anything on the application. Whatever notes or whatever you need to put on the application you need to put on onto Sirsi in the extended part under notes. No notes on the paper applications, not worth putting any extra notes on the paper application. There is no reason for anyone to write stored or any other notes on the registration form staff need only to insure form is completed with the requested info and signed by the customer and make sure there is only one account and data entry completed and new entry updated. Before customer leaves the desk any additional notes on form serve no purpose and are a waste of time for the library. January rd 3 email was sent out. Everybody understand that? Problem Statement Fashion Report

...Problem Statement Draft Introduction The main focus and concern of this report will be analysis of a designer’s portfolio and appliance of other fashion design related techniques and methods learned through the four semesters at VIA Design, Herning. Background This report is focusing on the idea of developing a collection for a world famous fashion designer-Bora Aksu. He is representing Turkey as an origin country and he is currently based in London, England. Purpose The purpose of this project is to present an overview of my skills and knowledge and apply them in the creative and technical part of the design and production process during the creation of a collection for the above mentioned designer. Problem statement Having in mind the strong appearance of Bora Aksu’s inspiration and theme in his collections, I have come up with the main question for this project: What would be the best next strong theme for the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2016 collection for Bora Aksu? Taking into consideration all of the information and analysis needed to answer the main question and end up with a solution of the problem stated above, the following sub-questions will be answered in the upcoming report as well: 1 .What is Bora Aksu’s background regarding the designer and the label he created? 2. What is Bora Aksu’s design DNA? 3. What are the themes and inspirations used by Bora Aksu in the development of his collections? 4. What techniques could be used to develop the......

Reaction Paper on Who Moved My Cheese.

...Reaction Paper on “Who Moved My Cheese?” The story “Who Moved My Cheese?” demonstrates that we should adapt change our lives whether we want it or not, and what is important is how we manage it. This is a story of two mice and two little people that live in and around a maze looking for cheese. The cheese is a symbol for what they want in life, whether it is a relationship, a job, or health. The maze symbolizes your life and where you look for what you want, whether it is in your place of work or family. Using two mice and two little people, the story illustrates that it is how we handle change that will decide how happy we are. It allows us to see the choices and challenges we face daily from a different perception. When we are not so close to the situation, we can see opportunities to exercise faith or fear, to grow or be contented. The story tells an amazing way on how to deal with change in our work and even in our life. It helps us to face our fear and be strong to face the reality of change. But most of us are afraid of changes because it is meant to bring something different. Changes can be a blessing or a curse, depending on what are your perceptions. If we view change as a positive outcome it helps us to move on and forget the past easily, as “Haw” did in the story. On the other hand if we view change as a negative outcome, it destroy us and get trap on the past just like “Hem”. I prefer to be just like Haw, a person who learn from his mistakes, accept, moved on......

Personal Responsibility Essay

...Personal Responsibility Essay Responsibility is the action taken to uphold you on a personal level to let yourself become a better person. Being responsible especially on a personal level is not an easy task as it also deals with ethics, morals and being dependable and the sort in a sense that is a responsibility in its self. My number one responsibility is being responsible for my actions and suffering the consequences if I do something wrong. In the same sense if I do what’s right I will reap the rewards so to say. Morals are normally taught in childhood or in a church setting. Basically it’s like the Bible says, “Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” (KJV). In basic terms it is saying if you do good you will get good rewards; If you do bad works you will get bad things in return that’s why being responsible is so important. People need to be able to depend on you but if you’re not a very mature responsible person than whom are people going to trust. “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame. The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society......

Ellis Book

...Listening to Ellis story honestly broke my heart. I don’t come from a broken home but it truly breaks my heart when people have to deal with these situations on their own. It makes me feel happy that Ellis has faith and courage to leave that all behind and stand stronger than ever. While I was watching him sign those tragic events in class I couldn’t help but tear up. I don’t think I would ever be able to handle those events in my life. Losing loved ones is already a tough situation to deal with, but watching them die and not being able to call for help is just really sad. It’s a shame that throughout his childhood he didn’t have his parents for moral support and had to put up with his aunt on his own. I have difficulties of my own with my family but they don’t compare to what Ellis has experienced and it makes me feel like a brat because I have everything I could possibly need and I still find myself complaining and arguing with my parents. Sometimes we take the smallest of things for granted. Many of us have all these blessings while others are wishing for them. I am guilty of taking things for granted. Ellis stories made me feel very grateful for the life I live. What I learned from Ellis stories is that even though life may suck at the moment it is only temporary, things will turn around for the better. His life did turn around for the better; he moved away from all the craziness and is attending school. He just wants to help people who are having the struggles he......

The Methodlology of Excelling in Education

...By Nicole Smartt for Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) Published October 17, 2014 I recently turned 29. Thinking about the whole growing older thing more deeply made me think about which career goals I’ve achieved already and why, so I wanted to share some of the things I think have had direct impact on my success so far – as well as some philosophies I think will guide many of us into the future (and into our thirties!). 1. Hard work beats traditional education. I don’t mean to suggest that there’s no point in a traditional education, but rather that if you have not had a formal education, hard work still pays off. Don’t limit your options based on schooling alone – if you want it, fight for it. 2. No job is too insignificant. From the start of my career, I wanted to learn every set of skills I could. Even though I didn’t get paid for the tasks I took on that fell outside my job description, I advanced more quickly as a result. 3. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Things won’t always work out the way you expect, but freaking out won’t help. Try to take a measured look at an unexpected situation and say to yourself, “Well, here we are. Now what?” and make the best of what you’ve got. 4.  It’s lonely at the top. Sounds clichéd, I know. But it’s true: the harder you work toward career goals, the less time you may have for keeping up with friends and making yourself available for short-notice plans. It can be more difficult if your peers begin to feel challenged by or......

Just-in-Time Production at Hewlett-Packard, Personal Office Computer Division

...------------------------------------------------- Case: Just-in-Time Production at Hewlett-Packard, Personal Office Computer Division Question 1: Should it be easier to run JIT effectively on the 150 than on the 120? Explain. Considering information given in the beginning of the case, it should be easier to run JIT effectively on HP-150. 1) HP-150 requires less number of parts, which leads to less inventory needed (20,000 active part numbers for HP-120 and its options vs 450 part numbers for HP-150); 2) Less suppliers are needed for HP-150 (200 suppliers), comparing to HP-120 (2,000 for HP-120 and its options). It will be easier to establish and maintain efficiently a long-term trustworthy relationship. 3) HP-150 has less variety (17 types of keyboards due (languages) while CPU is the same), but for HP 120 there were an average of 6 options per product. Less variety, again, provides fewer inventories and more flexibility to the process. To reduce complexity Question 2: How serious is the forecasting problem? In other words, does success with JIT depend on good forecast? Forecasting problem seems to be severe at the plant. Case says that “…manufacturing does a lot of “second guessing” because the forecasts are terrible”. However, good forecast for JIT systems is crucial. As JIT significantly reduces the amount of raw materials, WIP inventories and finished goods on hand, it greatly relies on accurate information, i.e. on the timely delivery of exactly......

Just-in-Time Compilation Technique

...Just-In-Time Compilation Technique 1. Introduction Just-in-time (JIT) compilation is an effective technique for boosting the speed of program interpreters. The idea of JIT compilation is to dynamically translate input programs into native machine code, and then execute only native code. It is an old invention which dates back to 1960. The earliest published JIT compiler is generally attributed to work on LISP (McCarthy, J. 1960); in his seminal paper Recursive functions of symbolic expressions and their computation by machine, Part I, he mentions functions that are translated during runtime, thereby sparing the need to save the compiler output to punch cards. After that Smalltalk pioneered new aspects of JIT compilations. For example, translation to machine code was done on demand, and the result was cached for later use. However, the concept is still relevant today as JIT compilation is considered vital for competitive interpreter-based implementations of modern languages, like Java, .NET, C# and ML etc. JIT compilation is interesting because of the conflicting goals of producing quick code versus quickly producing code. In very simple means JIT compilation is a process of reverse-engineering the semantics of a program, and re-engineering the result back into binary code. The code is split up into blocks, some higher-level meaning is extracted from the current block of code, and native code is generated. It is used to improve the time and space efficiency......

...'Ethical hacker' reveals trade secrets What comes to mind when you think of wireless Web surfing? It may not be security, or lack of it. There are nearly 30,000 public wireless "hot spots" in the United States at places such as parks and cafes, but there's more to consider than just where to log on. The convenience comes with a caveat. "Understand that the information you're sending is very similar to standing up here in the park and shouting out all the information -- would I normally do that?" said Richard Rushing, a wireless expert with security firm Air Defense who visited an Atlanta park to show security vunerabilities. Rushing is considered an "ethical hacker" and works with companies to strengthen their wireless networks. He said many people don't realize they could have all their personal data stolen while checking out their checking account. "It's great to be able to sit somewhere and work without having any wires attached, no nothing attached, but you have that risk that it comes back to," Rushing said. At the park, Rushing was able to log onto an unsecured hotel wireless signal in a matter of seconds. To illustrate how vulnerable such networks can be, Rushing then sent an e-mail and intercepted the entire contents of the message. He could've done the same thing to any of the dozens of people sitting nearby in the park. "At any point in time, I can reach out and touch everyone's laptop at the hot spot, and there's usually not any way of......

...The Fly-by-Nite Corporation produces executive jets. It buys five jet engines a week from an outside supplier, Hot Jet Industries. Order costs are currently $50 for each order and holding costs are $20 per week. a. Determine Q* (lot size). How often on the average should orders be made? (N) b. Suppose you are assigned the job of redesigning Fly-by-Nite for JIT. How much would order costs have to be reduced to for lot size to be one? How often would orders be made? 2. The JIT Appliance Company wants to reduce order costs by automating the ordering system. Currently orders for an inventory of washing machine motors take one hour to prepare. Assume inventory receipts are instantaneous. It costs $5 per hour to make up an order and $20 per motor per week to hold items in inventory. Demand averages 50 items per week. a. Determine the Q* lot size. b. Suppose the firm wishes to reduce lot size to one. How much does order time need to be reduced to ensure this? Assume all other costs are unchanged. 3. Quickie Manufacturing produces Widgets in work cells. Lead time per widget is six days, work content is three days, there are eight work stations, the average sales (demand) rate is three per day, thirty-two pieces are in-process, and product process speed is twenty-one per day. Where may there be problems here from a JIT perspective? 4. A JIT system uses kanban cards to authorize production and movement of materials. In one portion of the system...

Java vs .Net

...Abstract The future of software development is expected to be a near 50/50 split between the Java and .NET platforms. The astute student of software development must do their research and choose which platform they would like to be the most proficient in. There are different advantages to each platform which must be considered. One advantage to the .NET platform is that there are many languages, and by extension many class libraries, that are used in conjunction with each other. .NET also allows developers to produce usable results in a much shorter time frame. Advantages to becoming a Java developer include, generally, a much more intimate knowledge of the code produced and how it works. Another advantage is that with the use of the Java Virtual Machine, code can be written once and run on almost any system without having to recode it. Students must take these differences into account when deciding which platform to choose.   Introduction Object-oriented programming helps to make computer programs much more manageable through the use of reusable objects, inheritance and polymorphism. It was first developed by Dr. Alan Kay and a group of programmers at Xerox in the 1970’s. They developed a language called Smalltalk which was the first to really flesh out object-oriented ideas.(Murphy, 2008) The first wide commercial use of object orientation began with the invention of the C++ language in the early 1980’s; when Bjarn Stroustrup integrated object oriented......

Jit Article Summary

...Article Summary 1 – JIT (Just-In-Time) A study of JIT and firm performance in US manufacturing between 1990 and 2009: a re-examination of Swamidass (2007) Concerning Performance Models: The purpose of this study was to see JIT performance over US firms from 1990 to 2009. JIT was measured by inventory reduction, which was calculated by the inventory to sales ratio. Bottom Firms inventory grew 10% unexpectedly from 1981 to 1998, while Firms in the top and middle 10% groups, on the other hand, showed significant inventory reduction over the period. The next explanations state that the bottom firms might have stopped their business practices, but not shut down as they have moved their practices to offshore countries and the fact that the United States has lost many manufacturing jobs in the last 30 years proves it. The research found that the average estimates of total inventory/ sales ratios of the bottom 10% performer group showed statistically significant inventory reduction over the span of the 20 years, especially during the 1990s. The effect of JIT on WIP inventory reduction was analyzed. It was tested to see whether the sampled firms were able to achieve any significant reduction in WIP inventory rather than total inventory, since the amount of WIP inventory is always considered as a direct measure of how tightly the JIT manufacturing system is calibrated. The research indicated that the industry has improved its efficiency over time. In summary, the results of WIP......

Java

...A Comparison between Java and .Net Languages Introduction Java and .Net provide technologies that enable skilled developers to build quality enterprise applications. These technologies are rarely picked based on performance alone. There are many factors to consider when choosing Java or .Net. These considerations are often the deciding factor when choosing one or both of these platforms. Java Java is kenned as both a programming language and a development platform. It was first developed by Sun Microsystems in 1991 and subsequently relinquished in 1995. To help to make the language more accepted and accessible, Sun Microsystems developed it as an object oriented language with a syntax that is very similar to C++. (Java vs. .NET, 2007) Sun Microsystems decided to create this new platform out of a desire to be able to write programs only once that could be run on any system. (James) The Java 2 platform was launched in December 1998. This was a major amelioration of the platform, and included incipient graphics, user interface, and enterprise capabilities. This upgrade was over seven times as large as the initial Java 1.0 release and marked the maturity of the Java platform. (What is java?) Within the Java 2 platform there are 3 editions: • The Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) Provides the essential compiler, tools, runtimes, and APIs for writing, deploying, and running applets and applications. • The Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Defines a standard for developing......

Just in Time in Kalamazoo

...Case 2-1 Just-in-Time in Kalamazoo Summary and Assessment: President, Jim Ballenger’s, firm specializes in manufactured mini motor homes in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The majority of the mini motor homes are assembled from components purchased from outside vendors. It has come to Jim’s attention that transportation and inventory cost contributed to a relatively large portion of his components parts expenses. In an effort to reduce cost Mr. Ballenger considers implementing the just-in-time (JIT) system which was developed by the Toyota Motor Company. Mr. Ballenger and the rest of his management team are well aware of key principles, requirements and trade-offs that are necessary to occur in order to allow JIT system be successfully implemented. Unlike other kinds of management decisions, this one, due to its complicated nature, requires special consideration and financial calculations. Thus far, the company’s executive assistant created a summary of random sample of component inventory in numbers. The purpose of the summary is to identify which of two systems is more financially beneficial. Although cost-efficiency factor will have a weighty impact on management’s final decision, yet other more significant conditions will probably have a final say in the choice between the two production systems. Answers to discussion questions from chapter (pg 43): 1. What is the total annual cost of maintaining the components inventory under the present system? A: $1,151,522...
