ANALYSIS FOR SPORTS DAY
OVERVIEW:
At Featherstone, a day is held twice annually called sports day where every student participates and many teachers in sports related activities. The day is split into different activities and the students are also split up based on their house colour and based on the sport they wish to participate in. Activities such as football, badminton, basketball, netball, athletics and many more are held on this day. At the end of the day a house is elected winner based on the points each student from each house has won. The whole days plan summarised would be:
• Everyone comes into school
• Then they are split into house colours
• House colours are divided into desired sports
• Sports are played and people note down scores
• The scores are added up and a winner is decided

CURRENT SYSTEM:
On the day, students come in to the school and the plans for the day are announced. Children then pick the sport they would like to participate in, over in the main hall. Each teacher in charge of the sport then takes the students over where they will be playing. Over the past years, data is collected on sheets of paper where scores are collected as a tally chart. They are then entered into the computer afterwards which is how the winning team is determined. This data is either collected by students or members of staff. They all come together at the end of the day and join all the scores together and a winner is decided on what house colour has the most points.
PROBLEM:
Throughout sports day there are a few problems.
The main problem is how the data is collected. At the moment, it is collected manually using a piece of paper and a pen. Scores are noted down using a tally chart system. However the main problem is containing the scores and keeping them safe. Over the past years it often rains on sports day, which is a huge problem as it wets the paper and the paper ends up ripping and the scores are washed away. Scores then have to be assumed on what they were last seen as. This is a huge problem as the scores are not accurate and it gives the teams an unfair advantage. Another problem is that when all the scores are collected and input into the computer, it may be inaccurate as there is a chance of human error as only one person is imputing the data and there is also only one person who is noting down the scores.

CLIENT REQUIREMENT QUESTIONNAIRE
CLIENT: P.E TEACHERS The client would like to d

• What is your budget?
Our budget for the overall system to be made is £5,000

• We don’t think we’ll be able to provide real time data e.g. scores, is that fine?
Yes, because the scoring is done on paper so when the scores are noted down, they have to be passed to the scorers. Therefore there will be some delays.

• How do you want us to display the scores?
We want it to be displayed in a more conventional way. For e.g. visually via the web, showing graphs of the scores. We also want pictures of what is happening. We would like all of this to be displayed on mobile devices and iPads

• How would you like us to display weather updates?
We have resources that can view the weather, but we need to use devices such as a T.V or portable devices to show it in a more quick and simple way so that everyone is aware of the weather forecasts for the day.

• Will it be used for any other day?
No, only for sports day.

USER REQUIREMENT QUESTIONNAIRE (SCORERS)
USER: SCORERS
• The users of the system will be the scorers as they will be the people who note down the scores and then inputting the scores into the computer. Any changes made will also be made by the users such as deducting for cheating or breaking rules or adding on bonus points etc.

• How many scorers are there?
There is more than one scorer as there is more than one activity going on. So there is a scorer at each activity station and only one scorer who inputs all the final scorers and data.

• How is the score currently collected?
Using paper and a pen and collecting data using a tally chart system.

• What type of problems do you face when collecting scores and how would you like us to help improve it?
Weather is one of the biggest issues and concerns as it often rains on sports day. This destroys the data which we have collected carefully and accurately as the words get washed away and the paper rips. Also there is only one person who is inputting the data into the computer and sometimes the data may be slightly inaccurate as there is a possibility of human error. We would like a system which enables more than one person to enter data after careful consideration with one another.

AUDIENCE REQUIREMENT QUESTIONNAIRE (STUDENTS)
AUDIENCE: STUDENTS
- The students will be the audience of the system. This is because they will be participating in the sports and not noting down the scores. They are the ones who will be wanting to know the weather and seeing pictures of what’s going on everywhere else. Hence they are the audience as they won’t / can’t make any changes to the system.

• What would you like to see in the new system we will be introducing?
We would like to see updates on the day’s weather forecast. As we will be playing in different stations, we would like to see what else is going on everywhere else and any important notices on a big T.V that will be indoors and outdoors.

INPUTS:
The inputs for the system would be:
- House colors- So we can see which house is in the lead
- Form groups-
- Different sports-
- How many points collected by each house for each sport-
- Weather forecast-
- Fixtures-
- Different Sports and their Venues.

PROCESSES:
The processes would be:
- Filtering of sports
- Calculations of all scores
- Editing of images that are received
- Grouping by form group and houses

OUTPUTS:
The outputs will be:
- A regular update of the weather forecast
- Pictures of what is going on at each station
- The winning house colour – How many points collected by them
- 1st 2nd and 3rd winners for each sport & their names

SELECTED SOLUTIONS:
The solution I have proposed is an app or online page

FEASIBILITY:
To do all of this, we will need to find a way for the computer to send the data to the iPads. Connecting it to the TV shouldn’t be a problem, as it can be done so via a VGA cable or via a HDMI slot. However, sending the data wirelessly to the iPads is an issue that will need careful consideration from me and my colleagues as it requires great planning in order to provide an efficient system
