Formulas: Chemical formula tells what elements a compound contains and the exact number of the atoms of each element in a unit of that compound Subscript tells you how many atoms of an element. Symbol has no subscript unit only has 1 element. A unit of H2O contains 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom Atomic stability: The electric forces between oppositely charged electrons and protons hold atoms and molecules together, and thus are the forces that cause compounds to form. Atoms of noble gases are unusually stable Compounds of these atoms rarely for because they are almost always less stable than the original atoms Unique noble gases: To understand the stability of the noble gases, it is helpful to look at electron dot diagrams. (He has 2 others have 8) They show only the electrons in the outer energy level of an atom. Chemical stability: The noble gases are stable because each energy level is full Outer levels – getting their fill: They combine with other atoms that also have partially complete outer energy levels to become stable again or lose its outer electrons as a result each achieves stability. Examples Of Attitudes In Night By Elie Wiesel

...Night Final Essay 1: Elie’s Attitude (Roughdraft) Throughout Night, written by Elie Wiesel, such drastic events occur that they can leave one speechless. Some events might not be as bad as others but in general, any event that occurred in the novel (which was mostly about punishments that were given to the Jews) was a horrible event. An example of these events was when Elie and his father were loading diesel motor onto freight cars until Idek, a Kapo, lashed out and chose Elie’s father as his victim. As his father was being punished (by being hit by an iron bar), he became angry. An interesting fact about this is that Elie was not really mad at Idek but at his father (Wiesel 54). He then writes, “This is what concentration camp life had made...

Examples Of Compassion In Night By Elie Wiesel

...He is very weak, very dehydrated. Take care of yourselves, you must avoid selections. Eat! Anything, anytime. Eat all you can. The weak don’t last very long around here” (Wiesel 45). By giving Elie and his father advice, Stein is showing that he wants to help them by telling them that if one is weak or sick, they are put on the list for selections. Elie and his father both know that selection means death and they both want to survive to get out of Auschwitz. However, Elie also experiences events that are callous. When Elie was working by loading diesel motors onto freight trains, he experienced something that no son should ever experience. His father was being beat by Idek, another prisoner who has authority given to him from the Nazi’s. “And he began beating him with and iron bar. At first, my father simply doubled over under the blows, but then he seemed to break in two like an old tree struck by lightning” (Wiesel 54). Elie uses the metaphor “like an old tree...

...Elie then began working at a warehouse and his boss Idek had serious anger problems. Everyone in the warehouse tried to avoid him. One day Idek decided to vent his fury out on Elie. He began beating him harder and harder to release his own anger. Within seconds, Idek calmed down and had sent Elie back to work: “ I dragged myself to my corner. I was aching all over. I felt a cool hand wiping the blood from my forehead. It was the French girl she was smiling her mournful smile as she slipped me a crust of bread. She looked straight into my eyes. I knew she wanted to talk to me but that she was paralyzed by fear” (Wiesel 53). Night By Elie Wiesel Research Paper

...“Faster you filthy dogs!” (85). This is one way Jews were dehumanized during the Holocaust. Next, Jews were also dehumanized during the Holocaust by the way they were treated. When someone disobeyed the rules, they were either beaten, hanged, or shot. For example, when Elie’s father had a colic attack, he asked a gypsy where the toilets were. The gypsy stared at him for a long time and then he slapped Elie’s father so hard, that he fell down. Also, they always had to run from place to place, and were yelled at to go faster. Another example, is when Elie was beaten. He was beaten for mixing into other people's affairs. He was whipped twenty-five times by Idek. Elie had fainted, and had not realized he had fainted until they poured cold water on him. They yelled at him to stand up multiple times, however, he couldn’t move. Idek said, “Listen to me you son of swine… so much for your curiosity. You shall receive five times more if you dare tell anyone what you saw! Understood?” (58). No one should be beaten for accidently seeing something. Another example is when everyone was suppose to be in their blocks, but someone went out for food. The SS army shot this person. This is also how Jews were dehumanized by the way they were treated. Last, they were also dehumanized by having their homes, families, and friends taken away from them. Before moving to the concentration camp, their town was separated into two ghettos. Some families homes were in the ghetto; some were not. Elie’s house...

Lack Of Faith Exposed In Eliezer Wiesel's Night

...utter awe he was in at what he witnessed. How could a being let so much death and evil happen to the people he supposedly loved? Being mentally and physically abused every single day would drive someone to insanity. If the prisoners were slow when running, they would be shot. Eliezer witnessed many men being murdered right in front of his eyes and didn’t bat an eyelash. He couldn’t. Death had been reoccurring so much it was to be expected. If a prisoner was to become “out of line”, they would be killed. Eliezer saw a man go after a singular bowl of extra soup. It was just sitting there for anyone to take. But they knew if they were to take it, they would be killed. The man was shot to death. Eliezer was beaten repeatedly for running in on Idek having relations with a young girl. He was threatened with death if he were to speak of it with anyone. The officers enjoyed torturing the prisoners. They would laugh and do what they pleased. Towards the beginning, Eliezer was hurriedly stripped from his mother and sister. Soon after, his father as well. When they first arrived at the camps, through selection, he never saw his mother and sister again. He and his father spent most of the time together, keeping each other alive. Without each other, they would die. Upon arrival to the second camp, Buna, Eliezer and his father were separated through selection. When Eliezer realizes what has happened, he causes a commotion and runs over to his father’s side. Eliezer escapes the death selection...

Night

...Eliezer Wiesel is a fourteen-year-old boy living in Sighet, Transylvania, at the start of World War II. He is very devout and wants to study Jewish mysticism. His father, who is a prominent leader of the Jewish community, thinks that he is too young. Nevertheless, Eliezer starts studying the cabbala with Moché the Beadle, a poor and humble man who works in the Hasidic temple. Moché teaches him that he must seek to ask God the right questions even though we will never understand the answers he gives us. Despite ominous signs, the Jews in Sighet refuse to believe that the Fascists could ever do anything to hurt them. Moché is deported along with other non-Hungarians and taken to a concentration camp. He manages to escape and comes back to warn the townspeople of the atrocities that he has seen. They refuse to believe him, however, and think that he is either insane or just wants attention. People continue on in their normal, everyday lives through 1943. In 1944 the townspeople remain foolishly optimistic even after the Fascists come to power, Germany invades Hungary, and the German army itself arrives in Sighet. Eliezer's father refuses to try to escape the country. On Passover the persecution of the Jews begins. Jews are first forbidden from leaving their homes for three days, required to wear the yellow star, and then crowded into two ghettos. Even among the ghettos, people carry on as normal until one day when Eliezer's father is unexpectedly summoned to a meeting of the Jewish...

How Does Elie Wiesel Lose Innocence

...Eliezer and his father were assigned to work in a warehouse where they counted pieces of electrical equipment under the watchful eye of the kapo, or work leader, Idek. One day, Eliezer witnessed Idek with a Polish girl and was whipped because of it. “I no longer felt anything except the lashing of the whip. ‘One! … Two! …’ he was counting” (57). The pain that the whip inflicted on Eliezer was the most intense that he had ever felt. He lost the innocence of being a child. Later, when the Nazis discovered secreted weapons and grenades, they decided to hang three prisoners. Two were adult prisoners and one was a little boy. Both grown men die almost instantly but because the child was so light, he fought for his life for thirty minutes. “Then came the march past the victims. The two men were no longer alive.
