In Search of Enlightenment
Drowning in the midst
Surrounded by the madness
I don’t want to wind up in shame
Then only I’m to blame
I only want to wear that gown
The graduation crown
Everything that I have achieved
Has given me something to believe
I am my own version of success
This ceremony is a cursed mess
It often scares me
But I need everyone to see what I could be
This school has owned my soul
And it certainly taken a toll
Now it’s my time to depart
And with my leave I regain my heart.

TPCASTT
Title – Someone that is in search of or in need of some kind of new experience.
Paraphrase – The poem speaks of how the poet invested so much of her time and life into high school and how in need of a new start she is. She speaks of how she will regain her heart when she leaves the school behind because she will no longer be suffering through everything that she had to deal with in high school.
Connotation –
Attitude – My tone in the poem is one of deep sadness because I am leaving the only thing I have known since 2010, but my tone is also represented by great excitement because it means making a new start into the real world and not being as guarded as we have been.
Shifts – The shifts take place when I begin talking about how the graduation ceremony scares me, but it’s time I let the world know what I could really become out of the whole entire experience.
Title – The title obviously tells of how a young adult is making the easy change from guarded and sheltered to the outgoing adult that they know they can become which comes from the enlightenment in which they receive.
Theme – the occurring theme in the poem is making a change from being so helped all through life to being able to stand up and make a change for yourself.
I feel as if my poem relates to romanticism because it shows my own idealism on the subject of graduation and the inspiration behind my new life. I think the inspiration comes from being in this situation for so long that it has just given me every reason to build something bigger and better for myself. I feel as if the idealism comes from my own beliefs and outlooks on the impact that graduation has in someone’s life, especially my own.

...occasions do inform against me, And spur my dull revenge! What is a man, If his chief good and market of his time Be but to sleep and feed? a beast, no more. Sure, He that made us with such large discourse, Looking before and after, gave us not That capability and god-like reason To fust in us unused. Now, whether it be Bestial oblivion, or some craven scruple Of thinking too precisely on the event, A thought which, quarter'd, hath but one part wisdom And ever three parts coward, I do not know Why yet I live to say 'This thing's to do;' Sith I have cause and will and strength and means To do't. Examples gross as earth exhort me: Witness this army of such mass and charge Led by a delicate and tender prince, Whose spirit with divine ambition puff'd Makes mouths at the invisible event, Exposing what is mortal and unsure To all that fortune, death and danger dare, Even for an egg-shell. Rightly to be great Is not to stir without great argument, But greatly to find quarrel in a straw When honour's at the stake. How stand I then, That have a father kill'd, a mother stain'd, Excitements of my reason and my blood, And let all sleep, while, to my shame, I see The imminent death of twenty thousand men, That, for a fantasy and trick of fame, Go to their graves like beds, fight for a plot Whereon the numbers cannot try the cause, Which is not tomb enough and continent To hide the slain? Ethnic Paper

...when it came down to choosing what type of ethnic food to eat for this essay I immediately went searching for a unique Japanese or Chinese restaurant. After a little bit of research online, I found that Konomi had the best reviews in the area so I went to their website and checked out their menu to make sure it seemed ethnic. Along with having a long list of sushi, Konomi has the option of preparing your food teppanyaki style. This means that the food is cooked in front of your table on a hot iron plate by a Japanese chef. I figured that watching the chef’s techniques for preparing the food could be a valuable tool in searching for ethnicity so I decided that I would go to Konomi. Taking a look at what the menu had to offer was my first step at uncovering what made this restaurant ethnic or authentic. As I pulled up the menu online, I looked for clues as to what categorized this menu as ethnic compared to restaurants in the area. The first thing I saw on the menu was the drink section. This page was a collection of various types of sake drinks such as “Sho Chiku Bai Ginjo” along with Japanese beers. I honestly had no idea what sake was so I looked into it and found that sake is a Japanese alcoholic beverage produced from fermented rice. Having a Japanese style beverage that I had never heard of was a direct indication that this restaurant had ethnic characteristics. I also found it relevant and interesting that sake is made from fermented rice. This differs from American liquor...

Diminishing Literacy in an Age Characterized by Advanced Communication Technologies

... By advanced communication technologies When you think of how you or some of us send a text, most of the time it is not in proper grammar or even spelled correctly. The term “IDK” replaces “I don’t know” and “u” replaces the word “you”. All this change was to help make texting easier at the time when texting first started. People had the want and need to communicate using text lacking the time and convenience to type out full words, sentences, and paragraphs. It was at this time Techs language a group of individual words or fragments of sentences in languages that deals with texts as communication systems was formed. Now we as a people have become so use to our text language, it has made it that much harder own grammar. The toll it has taken it proven evident when some of us sit down to write a letter, paper, fill out a form or write an essay with pen and paper. We fail to be able to express our feelings and write in a way that is understandable to the reader as pen and paper have no spell check attached to them. It has been proven in Penn states media effects research laboratory said the use of these shortcuts hinders a teen’s ability to switch between techs speak and the normal rules of grammar. One cannot help but notice that this is a hindrance that college students face in today’s society as we watch the professors post notes and emails begging that we all take the time to check are grammar and spelling. Family Time Please

...generation is filled with constant access to web browsing, social networking, social media, IPads, IPods, and Iphones. With all of these constantly upgrading, convenient ways to connect, our current generation is becoming more and more reliant on technology. Almost all Americans have access to the internet. Families spend more time networking with each other, and connecting by posting on each other’s walls, viewing pictures, and listing each other as relatives. We are a web-based generation, who is to the point where we barely even have verbal conversation with one another. Is this the way to go, or is a more simple, nostalgic lifestyle change a necessity for future generations? What is left for our future children? Should we, as Americans learn to limit our use of technology, and take a lesson from our parents, and grandparents? Currently, the divorce rate in America is over 50%. Does this seem like a coincidence? Children are being raised in single-parent households, or are being toted back and forth between parents, on a weekly basis. Is the reliance on technology playing a role in the reason that relationships are falling apart? Maybe it’s time to take a step back, and re-learn the important factor in creating successful relationships; family time. There are many traditions which were practiced in previous generations’ households, which are either rarely practiced now, or even non-existent; among these, are family dinners. Having dinner with one’s family is so...

Sms Texting

...famous websites, like Facebook or Twitter. However, these abbreviations are starting to affect the way people communicate with one another and their writing skills. Users of these abbreviations are becoming more, and more psychologically depend on it. When a person sends a text message, it is usually in a modern language that originated from online when chatting. Users have adapted this shorter, quicker abbreviated way of messaging in order to gets their point across in 140 characters or less. Just because something is easier, quicker and shorter is not also right, and it is starting to affect people psychologically and their able to mental write simple paper. Text massaging abbreviations is inappropriate for school, work and formal writing assignments. A user needs to know the difference in how to use formal vs. informal writing that predates text messaging. An individual can ask anyone that has a cell phone, and that person would say, “That they would rather text someone than call”. Why would someone rather text than speak to that person. When a user uses abbreviation, they overlook most of what they have learned about how to properly communicate and write. Descartes Argument for External Worlds

...In Rene Descartes Meditation on First Philosophy, Descartes has cast a net of doubt on everything that he knows using three main arguments. In order to know something to be certain and true, he must get rid of the skeptical hypotheses to find truths that one simply cannot doubt. In order to fully overcome these doubts that he casts in Meditation I, he must analyze and show that he could be certain of the existence of the material world, despite the dreaming and demon arguments, which can be seen in the Sixth Meditation. He methodically gets to this by first considering the possible causes of material objects followed by the nature of these material objects and which attributes they possess. In Meditation VI Descartes considers the relationship between the cause of an idea and the idea itself in terms of the “formal” or ‘eminent’ reality in the cause and the ‘objective’ reality in the idea. Formal reality is the kind of reality something has by virtue of the kind of thing it is, while the objective reality is possessed only by representations, that is, by things that stand for other things. In essence a thing has objective reality, for Descartes, if it is a representation of something. For example, a bird is objectively real, and to say that the bird, as the cause of my idea, has formal reality is to say that it has the represented properties that my idea has in actual fact. In other words, the bird actually has wings, whereas the idea only has represented wings. We can distinguish...

A Peaceful Evacuation

...several protests that erupted due to this news, as well as a human chain that was created in protest to stop the disengagement. Once it was decided that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) would carry out the evacuation mission, the issue of how this move would occur arose. Major General Dan Harel, head of the Southern Command was in charge of the entire mission. Harel decided to have a roundtable that would decide how this mission was to be executed. Among those that were invited was Lieutenant Colonel Daniel, a chief psychologist of the Southern Command. Daniels leadership proved to be that of someone that is consultative. A consulting leader is one that is concerned about the support dimension, but there is still a high emphasis on the task itself (Kloppenborg, 96). This is demonstrated when Daniel was first given the position and the task. Daniel main focus was first the well-being of that of the people. He gathered the other IDK psychologists, listened to them and their problems, and they all identified how they were going to complete the mission. The importance of listening to the other phycologists was to determine the mental capacity of the evacuators. Daniel also did research on other large evacuations to see what measures were taken during those instances. His research concluded that there was not enough preparation that was done in any of the instances that he researched, so he knew the importance of having a solid plan going into this. Daniel anticipated that his soldiers...
