My family would be very disappointed in me if I was texting and driving. If I were texting and driving, I would be distracted on the road. I would most likely get in a car crash and seriously injure myself or possibly die. Even if I somehow did not get injured or die, my family would still be disappointed in me. However, if I did get injured they would probably be distraught. They would be left with the financial burden of any hospital bills from any time I would have had to spend in the hospital. They also might have to deal with any expenses of the car or cars that became damaged in the crash. If I were to die, then they would also have to cover the costs of a funeral. The emotional and financial burden if something happened to me

... By: Bleon Acquainted with the night By: Robert frost I have been one acquainted with the night. I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain. I have out walked the furthest city light. I have looked down the saddest city lane. I have passed by the watchman on his beat and dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet When far away an interrupted cry Came over houses from another street, But not to call me back or say good-bye; And further still at an unearthly height, A luminary clock against the sky Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right. I have been one acquainted with the night. Analysis The man in this story has walked at night a lot. He’s walked both away and back, probably his home, in the rain. He has walked out in to the city, and past the lights, maybe out of the city, and he’s looked down lonely, dark streets. The man has walked by a watch man, and look at him because he didn’t want to say why he was there, not even with a glance. The man stops because he wants to listen to a voice calling from the other street. He hoped the voice was calling for him. The man looks up at a clock, which probably is the moon, he was not satisfied with the time it showed. He ends by referring to the first line of the poem. I picked this picture for the poem because it connects so well with the poem. In the poem it says the man walked past...

Law Enforcement and Gun Control

...place to attack the issue. The gun laws being put in place effect a law enforcement officers' job in many ways. Laws get created in states requiring law enforcement to enforce, what I consider to be an unconstitutional attack on the second amendment. The debate on gun control has been going on for years, and it has become more of an issue within the past couple of months. Due to the recent active shootings President Obama has stated that there needs to be stricter gun laws to help lower the gun-crime rates in the United States. Citizens have owned guns for centuries and taking away their rights now because of people committing killing rampages would be unconstitutional. The crime rates are where they are today because of the choices people are making with a gun, and are not caused because someone simply owns a gun. The reaction is legislature that forces police officers to reestablish what the meaning of the second amendment means. Examples are laws that require officers to confiscate guns because a persons weapon holds to many bullets. The banning and confiscation of the same weapons that the our government supply’s to foreign militia groups are completely outlawed to the average citizen of America. What is the reason for this hypocrisy? I want to be a law enforcement officer when I graduate. I understand the risks involved with encountering a civilian with a loaded gun. Yet, regardless of the fear...

Rene Descartes Research Paper

...but as was stated by Descartes; it is not about how good the mind is, it is about how the mind is used. Descartes has always been regarded as a great philosopher; as a matter of fact, he is known as the father of modern philosophy. However, he was more than a philosopher. He was also a great mathematician and an eminent rationalist amid other things. Descartes has played as a major piece in the realms of mathematics, philosophy, and even science; therefore, he had a great impact in the course of history. Rene Descartes was born on March 31, 1596 in the small town of La Haye en Touraine, France. He was the youngest son of Joachim Descartes, his father who was a council member in the parliament, and Jeanne Brochard, his mother who sadly passed away within the first year of Descartes life. After the death of his wife; Joachim had his children live with their maternal grandmother. Joachim was very adamant about his children’s education. He wanted his children to get a good education and so he sent Rene to a boarding school. Rene was eight years old when he was sent to the boarding at the Jesuit college of Henri IV in La Fleche....

Percy Bysshe Shelley`S Poetry Analysis

...Percy Bysshe Shelley`s Poetry Analysis Shelley’s poetry covers a variety of themes from extreme joy and ecstasy to brooding despair. Themes such as restlessness, protestings against the power, an interesting relation with nature, ideal love, and a spirit seeking for freedom. I chose death as the theme to analyse because I like to read poems about death, it is interesting how death is interpreted and what the poet thinks about after-death and other death-related philosophical questions. Many of these poems are really depressing and sad such as “ A Dirge“ and “Adonais“ and while analyzing Shelley’s work, it also makes you understand what is going on in Britain and Europe during Shelley’s lifetime. Firstly, I am going to analyze Shelley`s poem “A Dirge“: A Dirge Rough wind, that moanest loud Grief too sad for song; Wild wind, when sullen cloud Knells all the night long; Sad storm whose tears are vain, Bare woods, whose branches strain, Deep caves and dreary main,-- Wail, for the world’s wrong! A dirge means a song that is sung at a funeral, so the title is already very depressing and creating a sad feeling or loneliness because someone is passing away. The two first lines create an image of a really bad day and I would even imagine the image at a funeral. The author describes one image of nature, the winds moaning, the sullen clouds, the sad storm, the vain tears, the bare woods, the branches straining, the deep caves, the dreary main, upon another to make...

Sb411 Bill Paper

...Kendal Foster Professor Robb Poli Sci 1 10/29/15 Bill Paper How many people today have witnessed police brutality either in person or on TV? In a Washington Post article by Kimberley Kindy, she stated “at least 385 people were shot and killed by police nation during the first five months of this year, more that two a day, according to a Washington Post analysis. That is more than twice as much of fatal police shootings tallied by the federal government over the past decade, a count that officials concede is incomplete”. Police brutality in the United States is a huge problem today. Each month you hear about more stories about the police using excessive force on a person. There have been endless cases of innocent, harmless, and unarmed people losing their lives or being assaulted because cops end up using excessive and sometimes deadly force to “protect” themselves from an absent danger. However the public had to do something about this. In many of these cases of police brutality someone has recorded it. Is recording a police interaction illegal? In an article by Steve Silverman, he states “you can record police interactions in 38 states legally, But in the other 12 states require the consent of all parties for you to record a conversation”. One of those states is the great state of California. Massachusetts and Illinois are the only two states that are cracking down on video recording. On December 9th, 2014 Illinois made it a felony for its citizens...

...problem. 3. What did I find out in my audience analysis? How many people did a survey? What were the results? I found out that a lot of people agree to this statement that it needs to take in action right now. I had a total of 20 people doing my survey and the results came to be that the (16) majority agreed with my statement while the others (4) didn’t really care for it since they’ve never experienced or think it’s not that important. 4. Audience Attitude: When I asked people about their feelings concerning texting while driving, most of them engaged in the topic and explained how it relates to their personal lives. However, very few were careless on the topic since they have never experienced or been in a near death incident with texting while driving. Therefore, I determined that the majority of my audience has analyzed that texting while driving is harmful to our society and daily living. a. Reasons: If you text while driving, it can cause lack of attention to the road ahead of you and can cause a near death incident. b. Organizational Framework: I am going to use a statement of reasons framework. This topic naturally lends itself to present how the statement of reasons is just basically stating how bad texting and driving is in a chronological order, making my last point the strongest to persuade my audience. c. Analysis Acquainted with the Night

...An Analysis of “Acquainted with the Night” by Robert Frost Many of Robert Frost's works have been interpreted as autobiographical, incorporating his love for the natural world in the thoughts and feelings of the speakers of his poetry. The genius of his work however lies in the broad meaning of his words so that they apply to everyone. In his poem "Acquainted with the Night", Frost uses symbolism and rhythm skims to convey through the speaker what many feel are lonesome feelings of isolation from some awful deeds, which the speaker feels ashamed of. Others may view the poem as being full of optimistic, life proclaiming symbolism that reflects the speaker's pride in choosing the road less traveled. His use of symbolic ideas allows for his work to be interpreted in various ways, and every reader can find their own meaning to his words. Robert Frost experienced many losses in his life including his father in 1885, his mother in 1900, his sister in 1929, and four of his six children, two of which died at very early ages. Of course everyone experiences losses in their lives, but one can imagine the profound effect the death of a child would have on one's disposition. The often gloomy and even depressing tones of many of his poems can be seen as a projection of his own depression and feelings of loss. Most people read "Acquainted with the Night" as dealing with the ideas of loneliness, depression, sufferings, and even contemplation of suicide. Everyone can relate to the feelings...

When Harry Met Sally

...professors are teaching him. He realizes his potential; therefore he struggles with how he can use his talents to help society. His mom has just passed away due to scarlet fever and ironically enough, this tragedy is what inspires him. He is disgusted with himself and eager to find his purpose, therefore he comes to the conclusion that he should create a new type of human being that could live forever, “Sometimes I grew alarmed at the wreck I perceived that I had become; the energy of my purpose alone sustained me: my labours would soon end, and I believed that exercise and amusement would then drive away incipient disease; and I promised myself both of these when my creation should be complete” (Shelley 57). Through the analysis of Shelley’s syntax with the choice of using a compound-complex sentence, the reader can interpret that Victor is extremely determined and passionate in finding what his purpose in life is. Once Victor believes this is what he should do, he dedicates his entire life to attaining this achievement, although his desperate passion for this blinds him of how crazy this idea actually is, “I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and...

Died with a Song

...“How Old Timofei Died With A Song” Analysis In Rike’s short story, “How Old Timofei Died With A Song” the story is told from the point of view of first person. Even though you never really know who the narrator is, the narrator tells you about how they enjoy telling stories to paralyzed people then goes on to tell a story about a man, Timofei who is the greatest singer of songs that is passed down from generation to generation. Timofei’s son leaves him to marry a peasant girl and when he does Timofei can no longer sing because he is so overwhelmed with grief. The son finally comes back, leaving his family, when he finds out how sick his father is, and there his father teaches him all of the songs he knows until he passes. Once Timofei passed, the son went out through the villages singing the songs with a tone that no one else has ever had. The narrator and the paralyzed man hint that maybe it was because he was so lonely, and died alone. Even though the point of view is first person, by the narrator telling a story it almost turns into limited omniscient, which the author probably did because it gives the story an interesting twist. By the author making the narrator switch point of views in the story it gives it a different feel, but is needed because it helps you understand the story that the narrator is telling more. If Rike wrote the story without the narrator telling it to the paralyzed man then you would never have the ending, “’So he didn’t learn that tone from his...

Rabbit Proof Fence

...In this essay, I will describe the life of the Aboriginals in Australia, a characterisation of the character Jack McPhee and some comments of his experiences in the novel “Wanamurraganya”, an analysis of “Mary’s Song Cycle”, and finally I will talk about the movie “Rabbit Proof Fence” First, I will like to start talking about who and what the Aboriginals are, they were the original residentes of Australia and they have been there since around 45.000 years ago, however the Aboriginals claim they trace their creation back to the “Dreamtime”, an era where the earth were created. Before the first settlers came to Australia in 1788, the Aboriginal people lived throughout Australia, although the most of the population lived along the coast. Today more than half of all Aboriginals live in cities, often in cruel conditions with bad educations, and some with the habit of drug, alcohol and smoking addictions. The novel starts with that Jack McPhee is born in 1905, and that he is an illegitimate son of an Aboriginal woman and white station owner. Mary’s Song Cycle is made Ruby Langford Ginibi, she is born Jan 26 1934 and she died Oct 1 2011, she a Bundjalung author, historian and lecturer on Aboriginal history, culture and politics. The poem is narrative, because it a tells a story, the story is about the “stolen generation” and how the Australian government treated the Aboriginals, the poem ask the reader where it’s people, children, traditions and warriors are, but right in the...

Gender Biased

...Beautiful Day There is this place just a few blocks away from my house where I like to go to get away. It’s called The Rock in Pawnee Rock. Early in the morning it can be so peaceful and quiet with beautiful wet dew still on the grass. As the sun comes up you see the colors surrounding the bright sky. Nothing more radiant as the sun on a bright morning. As I look around I can see every house in this small town, plus the long stretch of highway from great bend to larned. You see cars buzzing by on the highway and hear the hum of a nearby lawn being mowed with the smell of fresh cut grass in the air. The tall stone pillars remind me of the brave Indians that lost their lives in battle on these grounds. The jagged rocks around make me think of when I was a child and loved to climb onto the tallest rocks I could find, as I would stand at the top of the hill and felt like king of the world. Too Busy To Stand Still At the rock early in the morning the world seems so eerie and dark. The sun still shining but the lives of Indians passed still feel as if they are lingering in this hollow place. As I stand at the top of the hill you see the once lovely plaques dedicated to the Indians that lost their lives on these grounds, which is now riddled full of bullet holes. The walls and the tall pillars now covered in obscene spray paint, surely contaminated by the younger generation with nothing better to do. As you hear the loud cars busily driving by, you wonder if anyone ever...
