In the essay, Peace Begins with One Person, Ivory Harlow writes about her encounter with a customer while waitressing at a country diner. Ivory noticed the struggle of a lady who was obviously hungry. After serving the lady free pancakes, she was asked to barrow a couple of dollars to cover a bus ride with the promise of returning the money soon. Not expecting a return, Ivory hands the lady two dollars because she believes in kindness. The struggling lady returned three weeks later with news of her new job and living place. She returned Ivory’s two dollars along with a meal covered on her check. Stunned to see the lady now on her feet, she feels a sense of accomplishment. Not only did she do a good deed for a random person, but she also started a continuous act of kindness. Some so little, such as a free stack of pancakes, can go a long way. It’s the simple things in life that make the biggest impact.
Cause and Effect
Ivory takes a fresh pot of coffee to back of the diner. Ivory sees the tired lady who asks the price of only one breakfast taco.
Because the lady is obviously struggling Ivory offers free pancakes.
Because the lady asked for 2 dollars with the promise of returning them Ivory gives the lady a couple dollars.
Because Ivory gave the struggling lady two dollars The lady kept her promise and returned the money along with a meal in return.
Because Ivory’s kindness came back around in her favor she believes random acts of kindness take care of everyone in the world, some way or another.

In the essay, Returning to what is Natural, Amilia Baxter writes about how people explore to find new things and try something new. She compares exploring independence to hair dye. She believes you can always go out and try new things but really you automatically gravitate to the norm. Amelia has a unique way of thinking. Instead of believing that a “safe place” is a place where you set limits to what you can explore and how far to explore them, safety is simply doing what is natural to you while exploring. Amelia likes dying her hair for different looks but knows that her roots will never fail her beauty. She believes that all independence comes from what was first dependence. She uses the many times she has dyed her hair to compare to her growing life. Hair dye is not permanent, eventually it will wash away and leave you with your own natural beauty just like life’s bad decision eventually fade and life will continue to go on.
Causes and Effects

Amelia dyes her hair as a way of being independent Amelia’s mom reminds her that the hair color that is given during birth will always look great.
After hearing her mother Amelia can relate her mom’s statement to life
Relating the statement to life she realizes that exploring only leads to finding what makes you feel comfortable.
Feeling comfortable is what your naturally use to.
Having what you are naturally use toallows you to explore freely knowing what you had will always be okay.

The Matrix

...2014 The Matrix was a film created by the Wachowski Brothers that dealt heavily with the thought of epistemology. Epistemology is a philosophy of origin, nature and limits of human knowledge. In the Matrix the limits of human knowledge was pushed with the question of reality. Is reality real? Is what we see and do true? The question was portrayed in the film by Neo a computer hacker that had a life time nagging question inside that he just could not shake. Neo met Morpheus, a leader of an organization that could help Neo answer his question. Morpheus proposed Neo a plan to follow him take the “red pill” and find the truth or take a “blue pill” and forever stay the same. Neo agrees to take the “red pill” then is launched into a world like he had never seen before. The “Matrix” was a world where humans were only living virtual reality lives. Giant computers were placing thoughts, feelings and everyday life circumstances into their minds. Through their virtual lives they could work, play and even die. Is our reality real today? Are we just victims of a larger, grander scheme? The Allegory of the Cave is a synopsis of The Republic where people live their whole lives in the opening of a cave. The prisoner’s feet and necks are chained so they cannot leave or even turn their heads. Their whole lives the only truth they know is shadow figures that puppet masters cast on a wall before them. Eventually a prisoner is set free to explore the “real” world around them. He is blinded...

The Matrix

...sensory world was the physical matter, which was always changing and does not last forever, perceived through our senses. The world of ideas is eternal, and consists of patterns which the sensory world was made from. Plato said that we cannot get true knowledge from the sensory world, because it was always changing, and true knowledge lay in the world of ideas, where we perceived through reason, and not our senses. He said that the human being had an eternal soul that existed in the world of ideas before it inhabited the physical body. When the soul sees the imperfect sensory world, it gives the soul a faint recollection of the idea world, and it longs to return and see that idea world again. The Myth of the Cave is another way Plato explained this. He said that a group of humans are in a cave facing the back wall of the cave, and behind them is a high wall blocking the outside of the cave. Some other human-like creatures hold up some figures, above the wall, and all these humans can see are the shadows on the wall. They have been tied up in this position for their whole life. Plato said that the darkness of the cave represents the sensory world, while the world outside is the world of ideas. These ideas are represented in The Matrix. Everyone grown in the fields by the machines are just like the people who are tied up facing the back wall of the Plato’s cave. The simulation called the Matrix is the sensory world. It does not hold the truth, and everything in it only barely resembles...

Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper

...Real Hero: Beowulf vs. Grendel The story of the famous battle between Beowulf and Grendel are told in two stories in The story of Beowulf by an unknown author and Grendel by John Gardner. The story of Beowulf is told in 3rd person by someone recounting the events and Grendel is told in a 1st person view of Grendel himself. There is lots of controversy whether which of the two is the real hero, so here is the gist of both stories for you to decide: There is a small town full of people that is being tormented by a monster who comes only to kill and bring terror among the people, the attacks continue and after a short while comes a famous warrior named Beowulf. He comes to defeat the town’s monster to save the people and end the mindless killings of Grendel. Both stories result in Grendel being killed and Beowulf being praised for his actions and he eventually becomes a great, fair king that all the people adore and love. The Anglo-Saxon definition of a hero is typically a man who is strong, brave and an intelligent warrior. They had to be willing to fight to the...

What Is Truth

...What is Real Since the beginning of higher thought there has always been an internal struggle within the very depths of man that wondered “What is Real”. For centuries all men have tried to define and analyze this for many different reasons, to predict the future, to know where we came from, to manipulate and control. After all the time that man has been on Earth many different ideas and theories have developed on this topic but this still has been one of the most universally debatable issues. Reality is dependent on each individuals own interpretation of what is real in terms of our sensory experience, personal perceptions, and own individualistic beliefs. Edwin Abbott wrote a great analogy about our dimensional experience in Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. Many subjects are approached in this book but the most interesting was the concept of dimensions. He starts off describing that we live and apply logic in dimensions; the first dimension consists of points that can produce a single line, the points live in the first dimension and therefore cannot grasp the perception of the next dimension. The second dimension consists of moving lines which turns into shapes along two axis’, this dimension can fully understand the first dimension but yet again the next dimension is inconceivable. In the third dimension the same idea is applied, the shapes formed along the second dimension are moved and twisted into, as we perceive it, three dimensional shapes that are multisided...

British Economic History

...improved,deteriorated or remained stable. On the one hand, optimists like Jeffrey G.Williamson, held the view that although some workers suffered from harsh working conditions and were working more days, the increase in real wages could offset these disamenities and as a whole, the majority of people lived from 1760 to 1850 benefited from the industrial revolution in terms of standards of life. On the other hand, pessimists like Charles H. Feinstein argued that the living standards of life deteriorated for the working class in early industrialisation. The main difference in the perception of judging the living standards between optimists and pessimists is the distinction between the importance of qualitative and quantitative factors that influenced the lives of workers during industrialisation. On the ''quantitative side'',optimists base the arguments on real wages, life expectancy and on the move to the cities away from the ''idiocy of rural life''.[1] On the ''qualitative side'' pessimists count on more intangible aspects, like political rights, work discipline, hours of work, fertility and infant mortality. To answer to this really controversial issue of standards of life of working class during industrial revolution we have to weight the any qualitative benefits in real wages and to subtract any losses...

Real Madrid Marketing Hbs Case

...REAL MADRID CASE STUDY Summary Real Madrid is one of the most storied sports franchises in the world. It is one of the few sports teams with international appeal to a very broad fan base. This case delves into how Real Madrid transitioned from a good soccer team with a winning history into the global sports juggernaut we know today. We first examined Real Madrid’s revenue streams and found that from their inception through the 1970s their business model was based almost entirely on their ticket sales. After the 1970s up until 2003 they had some media rights, a small merchandising department, and some other negligible streams of income. It was in 2003 that team President Florintino Perez decided to make Real Madrid into a special type of sports team that was akin to large global corporations like Walt Disney. After reviewing the facts we agree with the decision to shift the business model into its current position (as of 2003). After identifying and examining the lifetime values of different consumer groups which are listed below under the “Question 2” headline, we have found that each group has different desires in order to be completely satisfied. However, each group has a common denominator that will maximize utility across all segments and that is winning. A winning team sells more merchandise, can demand higher advertising revenues, and can attract the best players for less money which also leads to winning more often. We also quantified two types of consumers...

...Study Plan For Real Estate Sales Branch Office in the Southmost Area of Brownsville,Texas. By C. Frank Wood (86-3396)   Executive Summary Jokl-Wood & Associates Reality, Inc.  is a Brownsville firm that offers a variety of real estate services. A few of the services that JW&A offers include, both buyer and seller representation in the sale, purchase, or lease of real property. JW&A was organized as a corporation almost ten years ago. They currently have ten licensed real state salesmen or brokers in their office, as well as property management company known as BREMCO (Brownsville Real Estate Management Company) on site.  Reality, Inc. is interested in knowing if the southmost area of Brownsville can support a possible branch office. The real estate firm is well established in the other areas of the city, but feels that the Southmost area has a growing potential as a source of other business.  The only main limitation of the expansion, and the study, is the fact that the Southmost is predominantly Spanish speaking and traditional with regards to the buying and selling of a home. The language barrier would require that any business conducted out of a branch office in this area be conducted in Spanish; therefore, a real estate salesman located in this area would need to be fluent in Spanish. The traditional factor of the Southmost area is that people tend not to trust outsiders, especially with their homes and money. In order to be successful in this area, the real estate salesman...

Plato and Aristotle

...different perspectives of the Theory of Forms. Plato was one of Socrates’ students and he believed in idealism. Plato’s metaphysics which is also referred to as the Theory of Forms explains that there are two sides of the world of Forms. One of them is separated from the reality and one of them is the reality of the world. (Moore, pg 38) Aristotle was Plato’s student and he disagree with Plato’s believes. He was the first philosopher to explain what existence and essence is (Moore, pg. 63). One of Aristotle’s strongest arguments against the Theory of Forms was his Third Man argument. He explains that there must be a third thing or person to tires together a Form (Moore, pg. 65). Plato and Aristotle have excellent views of Theory of Forms and the Third Man argument; however there are points I agree and disagree with. Plato was one of the most important philosophers. Plato spends most of his life living in Greek. He was the first metaphysics thinker Theory of forms was one of Plato most important idea. He believed that we are living in two worlds; the world of appearances and the world of ideas. The appearances world is the world we are living in where we can touch and see around us. Our senses help us guide us in the visible world. In the ideas world, we can only sense it with our thinking. The intelligible world is in our mind, we control what the intelligible world looks like. The material world is a shadow of the real world of the form. Therefore according to Plato we are...

Economics

...strives to demonstrate the fact the equity market performance is dependent upon the earnings growth of the companies and the earnings growth is somewhat capped by the real GDP growth of the economy as a whole. In other words, the equity markets are not to be conceived as a medium which could generate supernormal returns; instead, the return could be capped at about 4% over the real GDP return. Review The article highlights the fact that an economy will attract investments as long as the marginal return (represented by the marginal product of capital) is higher or equal to the cost of capital. The companies (which constitute the economic and commercial activities of the economy) will grow at a higher rate than inflation as long as the marginal product is equal to the cost of capital. Once that level is reached, the companies will be able to generate a return which is identical to the real GDP growth of the economy. In short, the companies will be able to generate a higher return than the GDP in the short run, but the return would be somewhat capped by the real GDP growth in the long run. This will have a direct impact on the returns of the capital markets. The real GDP growth seeks to impose theoretical limits on the earnings of the growth of the commercial entities The above mentioned facts explain as to why the real long term growth for any economy remains constant with a positive bias. Much of the growth is also based on increase in consumption based demand owing to the increase...
