‘the Mystery of the Disappearing Oil’

... or relativism between Muslims and other religious groups (Cornwell et al., 2005). The fact that Muslims were able to build up a strong civilization and control international trade for centuries supports the idea that Islam does not enforce an idealistic view on life and ethics; rather Muslims were successfully practical because of the room of flexibility and adaptability in Islamic ethics. Flexibility and adaptability of Islamic ethics are part of the dynamism of Shari’a. Also, they can be supported by one of the fundamental concepts in Islamic theology; levels of religion (Deen). According to the famous Hadith known as Hadith Jibril, there are three levels of religion (Deen); Islam, Iman and Ihsan. The first level Islam is concerned with obeying the instructions and teachings of Allah (the God). The second level Iman is concerned with strengthening believes and values in one’s heart. While the third and ultimate level Ihsan is concerned with living a spiritual experience by god watching in every single action. Muslims have different levels of ethical awareness and commitment according to the richness and depth of their religious experience (level of religion). Frederick Carney (1983) has proposed that any religious ethic consists of an obligation, a virtue and a value component (Carney, 1983 cited in Moad, 2007). Moad (2007) proposed that the three levels of religion in Islam “Islam, Iman and Ihsan represent what Carney calls the obligation, value and virtue components...

... product portfolio. * Increasing their presence and production in emerging markets Threats For a company that has been at the top of the business for many years, maintaining their position and recognition is not an easy task. When there is such a strong company like Pfizer, problems and threats come without even asking for them. Some of these threats include: * Increase competition from other big pharmaceutical companies, which decrease their market expansion range and probabilities. * Possible increase in access restrictions and pricing of products in U.S. due to healthcare reform (Milne and Kaitin, 2010). * Blockbuster drugs with patent expiration in near future. * Increase competition by generic drugs manufacturers * Increasing regulatory scrutiny of drug safety and efficacy (Pfizer Inc., 2012) External Factors Impacting Decisions To have a broad view of what external factors that could affect Pfizer’s decisions and strategies, a focus must be done on the PESTEL (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal) analysis. Companies use this analysis for two main reasons. One reason is that it permit the company identify the type of environment in which they operate. The other reason is that it gives the company the information and data necessary to anticipate possible situations in the future (Ihsan, 2012). Political and legal factors are really important to consider, especially in the United States because...

Factors Affecting Housing Affordability

.... He then suggested that waqf accounting practices should be based on the Statement of Recommended Practices (SORP 2005) for charities in the UK. Concerned with the same accounting and managerial issues of waqf, a replication of this study was undertaken a year later by Ihsan (2007) to scruitnise the accounting practices of two Indonesian waqf institutions. His examination discovered the lack of uniform accounting practices between these two institutions. As a consequence of this, there were accountability and transparency lapses in the management and accounting of waqf. This led Ihsan and Adnan (2009) to propose the kind of information that should be provided by the mutawallis to various stakeholders. In response to the earlier calls for the proper accounting of waqf, Adnan (2005) took the challenge to develop waqf accounting standards. He suggested two alternative accounting and reporting framework of waqf accounting on the basis that waqf can operate as a social organisation (non-profit) as well as a commercial organisation. He asserts that it is appropriate to apply accounting for nonprofit organisations to the former, whereas accounting for commercial organisations is more applicable to the latter. Still on accounting standards, Ihsan, Ayedh and Ibrahim (2006) undertook a comparative study between waqf and charities in the UK. Their findings suggested that some aspects of Charity Commission proposals such as internal financial controls, transparency and reporting...

Hadith

...The excerpt from the Hadith definitely described an ethical religion. As the definition, ethical religion appeared as a teacher who taught his students to follow the ethical principles instead of kept their faith in supernatural beings. The ethical religion set the standard for what was and what was not acceptable behavior. In the second paragraph of the Hadith excerpt, the Messenger of Allah said, “Islam is testifying that there is no god but Allah.” An ethical religion testified the appearance of a supreme being who should be emulated for people to follow. The followers also needed to show their faith and their respect by “to perform the prayers, to pay the zakat, to fast in Ramadan and to make the pilgrimage to the House if you are able to do so.” Also in the second excerpt, the Messenger of Allah described that Ihsan was “to worship Allah as though you are seeing him” as well as mentioned Iman, which was “is to believe in Allah, His Angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in divine destiny.” He considered those definitions as the advices that the followers should have faith and believe even though they had not seen physically. The ethical religion convinced its followers to keep their faith and conduct the good deeds would help them to enter the paradise or live the eternal life as what in the fourth excerpt said, “so he behaves like the people of Paradise and thus he enters it.” By using the image of the Messenger of Allah from his first......

Development of Accounting Theory Based on Islamic Teachings

...Research Journal of Finance and Accounting ISSN 2222-1697 (Paper) ISSN 2222-2847 (Online) Vol.5, No.4, 2014 www.iiste.org Development of Accounting Theory Based on Islamic Teachings: A Glance over Principle of Al-Adl and Al-Ihsan Shaukat Amer1* Sofri Bin Yahya2 1- COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Kamra Road, Attock, Pakistan. 2- Dean, Graduate School of Business, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia *E-mail of the corresponding author: shaukat_amer@comsats.edu.pk Abstract The beauty of accounting based on Islamic principles is that it not only deals with the valuation but also deals with an inbuilt accountability mechanism. Generally the accounting should be able to perform roles like keeping safe custody of interests, certifying true and fair view of business, enabling accountability and providing reliable information for successful decision making to all the stakeholders. In this context there are three main issues with respect to present system of setting accounting standards. These are undue pressures of certain groups in setting these standards, no role of owners in setting these standards, and flexibility/discretion in applying these standards which may lead to subjectivity. These may results in incorrect valuation of business transactions, increasing management discretion which in return will increase corporate governance issues including incorrect financial reporting, earning management and limiting decision making ability of the stakeholders. In order...

Communist Manifesto

...Russab Ali Ihsan Sadi 9:30 – 11 AM The Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto is written by Karl Marx is an attempt to understand the goals of the Communist movement while also shedding light upon the theory that spurs the movement. The Manifesto claims that class warfare is a result of the exploitation of the lower class by the upper class and that this is the sole motivation behind revolts and major historical events. Marx believes that each individual era’s means of production defines who the upper and lower class are, but eventually problems arise. New ruling classes arise after a revolution caused by the unfair relationship between the classes and the forces of development. This cycle is repeated over and over again. Marx also argues against Capitalism. He states that modern society always creates a conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Marx also believes that capitalism will soon cease to be productive because of this conflict. In an age of strikes, how long can you go before everyone is on strike? Following the same pattern as before, he sees the working class leading a revolution and winning. However, there will be a slight twist. Whereas previous revolutions just reallocated ownership of property, this new class will have no way of doing so. Instead, they will cease all ownership of private property. Because classes are based on the ownership of property, this revolution will essentially end the notion of “classes.” To Marx this development...

...-Anbiya, 21: 25; and Surah Az-Zukhruf, 43:45). Sincerity (Ikhlas) refers to surrender to Allah, “with all one’s heart, all one’s mind and all one’s soul”. Ikhlas (sincerity of intention, action and then perseverance on it) is the highest station of love and servitude to God. With reference to Ikhlas, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said that Allah said: “Ikhlas is a secret from my secrets and I place it in the heart of my servant who is my beloved.” Moreover, according to T.P. Hughes’ Dictionary of Islam, Ikhlas is a “theological term, implying that a Muslim performs his religious acts in the sight of God alone, and not to be seen of men”. In Islam, this is the affirmation of Divine Unity, as in Surah al-Ikhlas, also known as Surah alTauhid (Surah 112), that translates as: “‘Say (O Muhammad): He is Allah, (the) One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks). He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him” (Q. 112: 1-4). As Ihsan (perfection or excellence), a comprehensive and wide-ranging concept that denotes doing things completely, nicely and in a tasteful manner, (and according to Prophetic tradition means) to act as if one is seeing Allah, so, in such a situation, one is well-aware that nothing can be concealed and veiled from Allah. But the goal is not simply to act as Allah wants us to act; rather it is to do things for Allah’s sake alone. This is Tauhid put into practice...

...Advanced Human Resources Supervised by Dr. George Prepared by Mohamed Ihsan Roj Majid Lana Bapir Title Human Resources Challenges: In Relation to Terrorism & Migration Date of Submission 4th of November, 2015 Human Resources Challenges: In Relation to Terrorism & Migration In general, human resources management (HRM) is concerned with the personnel dimensions of an organization. There is a set of functions each Human Resources Management department must perform, in order to achieve its objectives. However, the most frequent human resources functions that any typical organization could have are; job analysis and job design, recruitment and selection of employees, employees’ training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, labor relations, and finally managerial relations. These seven human resource areas and their associated functions contribute to the most common objectives of an adequate quantity of competent employees with high skills, abilities and knowledge that are requisite for satisfying the goals of an organization.
