Contempory Organisational Design

...Title of Assignment: A critical review of two articles relating to aspects of contemporary organizational design 1) M Orlitzky, F L Schmidt & S L Payne, Corporate Social and Financial Performance: A Meta-Analysis, in Organization Studies, 2003; 24; 403-441 2) E J Walton, The Persistence of Bureaucracy – A Meta-Analysis of Weber’s Model of Bureaucratic Control, in Organization Studies, 2005; 26; 569-600 Organisational Design is concerned with constructing and changing an organisation’s structure to achieve the organisation’s goals. In order to understand organisation, we have to look at the two dimensions; structural and contextual. Structural dimensions provide labels like formalization, specialization, hierarchy of authority, centralization, professionalism and personnel ratios, to describe the internal characteristics of an organisation, and they create a basis for measuring and comparing organisation. Whereas contextual dimensions, they characterize the whole organisation, including its size, technology, environment and goals, and also describe the organisational setting that influences and shapes the structural dimensions. For some time, researchers have studied the relationship between a firm’s corporate financial performance (CFP) and its corporate social performance (CSP). Although many studies indicated that CSP is a determinant of CFP, other aspects of some research have been inconsistent. Some studies are criticized for using unrealizable CSP...

...International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology, May 2011. ©IJAET ISSN: 2231-1963 STRATEGIES & METHODOLOGIES FOR LOW POWER VLSI DESIGNS: A REVIEW Kanika Kaur1 and Arti Noor2 1 2 KIIT College of Engineering, Gurgaon, India kanika.kiit@gmail.com artinoor@cdacnoida.in Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Noida, India, Abstract Low power has emerged as a principal theme in today’s world of electronics industries. Power dissipation has become an important consideration as performance and area for VLSI Chip design. With shrinking technology reducing power consumption and over all power management on chip are the key challenges below 100nm due to increased complexity. For many designs, optimization of power is important as timing due to the need to reduce package cost and extended battery life. For power management leakage current also plays an important role in low power VLSI designs. Leakage current is becoming an increasingly important fraction of the total power dissipation of integrated circuits. This paper describes about the various strategies, methodologies and power management techniques for low power circuits and systems. Future challenges that must be met to designs low power high performance circuits are also discussed. Keywords: Power Dissipation, low power, process nodes, leakage current, power management. 1. Introduction The advantage of utilizing a combination of low-power components in conjunction with low-power...

Theoretically, we develop two contingency perspectives. First, we extend previous work to argue that CSR’s impacts on corporate financial performance (CFP) are moderated by five factors: CSR form, firm characteristics, time, national framework and industrial characteristics. Focusing on industrial characteristics, we theorise that differences in industries’ dependency on certain stakeholder groups, their proximity to the end consumer, their potential for social and environmental damages and their level of product / service differentiation moderate CSR’s value relevance. Our second contingency perspective considers for whom CSR...

C2C and Industrial Ecology

... Forest Products (CFP), the largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and veneer products in North America, has always been tightly bound to the U.S. housing market. With over 40% market share in hardwood plywood products, most of which go into new home construction, the profitability of the company depended on the global economy and a winning strategy. Although the plywood industry is affected by high rivalry, fierce competition, and declining margins, CFP thought it might be possible that competitive advantages could be achieved through product differentiation, product innovation, and improved supply-chain management. Implementing a sustainability-based strategy that incorporates environmentally-sound policies and practices throughout a company’s value chain potentially could provide a viable differentiation strategy in this mature industry. Serendipitously, a member of the CFP management team attended a lecture by Doctor Kaichang Li, an Assistant Professor at Oregon State University's College of Forestry, who had developed a technology for creating a sustainable adhesive for wood products. Utilizing principles of biomimicry, Dr. Li developed a method to create a protein-based adhesive modeled from a mussel’s innate ability to attach to shoreline rocks. Li and his team replicated this adhesive by blending protein-rich soy flour with the same amino acids used by the mussels. CFP hired Dr. Li to work on the development of this product and eventually they unveiled PureBond®......

Acct Assignment

...Derek Seedorf Acct 450 Conceptual Framework Project Analysis Spring 2015 Directions Investigate the “Conceptual Framework Project” of the FASB and IASB. Answer the following: 1. When did the project begin? The in class text seems to suggest that the project initially started in October 2004 when the FASB and IASB decided to add to their agendas the joint project of developing an improved conceptual framework for both the IASB’s Preparation and Presentation of Financial Statements as well as the FASB’s Conceptual Framework Project (CFP). However, I thought the reading of the text was a little unclear, but I verified the information using an online source. Looking online it seems as though adjustments are still being made to the project to date so it is ongoing. 2. What has the progress been to date? a. What outputs have occurred? One of the achievements the CFP has made is deciding a recognized definition of an asset and a liability. The previous definitions were thought to have been flawed. While it seems unnecessary to list the definitions here, they can be found on pg. 69 of the text. In general the CFP has worked towards resolving differences between certain elements and their definitions. Also, the project has worked to revise recognition criteria and concepts in order to eliminate current differences and provide a basis for resolving such issues. The test gives an example of the derecognition and unit of account...

...International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology, Nov. 2013. ©IJAET ISSN: 22311963 THE MCKINSEY 7S MODEL FRAMEWORK FOR E-LEARNING SYSTEM READINESS ASSESSMENT Ali Abdul-Fattah Alshaher Lecture, Department of Management Information System, College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, Iraq. ABSTRACT These study it is necessary to can be used as a theoretical foundation upon which to base decision-making and strategic thinking about e-learning system. This paper proposes a new framework for assessing readiness of an organization to implement the e-learning system project on the basis of McKinsey 7S model using fuzzy logic analysis. The study considers 7 dimensions as approach to assessing the current situation of the organization prior to system implementation to identify weakness areas which may encounter the project with failure. Adopted was focus on Questionnaires and group interviews to specific data collection from three colleges in Mosul University in Iraq. This can be achieved success in building an e-learning system at the University of Mosul by readiness assessment according to the model of multidimensional based on the framework of 7S is selected by 23 factors, and thus can avoid failures or weaknesses facing the implementation process before the start of the project and a step towards enabling the administration to make decisions that achieve success in this area, as well as to avoid the high cost associated with...
