1. Refer to DOGS1 data. The investigator may want to ensure that the dogs allocated to each treatment group were of similar compositions with respect to gender and hair coat. Use PROC FREQ to conduct Fisher’s exact test to see if the concentration of the drug received was statistically independent of the gender of the dog. Likewise, see if the length of the coat and the drug treatment were statistically independent with Fisher’s exact test. Write your interpretation of the results of these tests.

2. Refer to the MANATEES data. Your task is to see if the proportion of manatees killed by human-related causes has remained about the same through time or if this proportion has changed significantly from year to year. Create a dataset with …show more content…

7. Refer to HOCKEY data. Did Ohio State have a home-ice advantage? Use PROC FREQ to perform Fisher’s exact test for the 2x2 table of the outcome of the game (“won” or “lost or tied”) versus location (Columbus, Ohio or elsewhere). Don’t forget to change the score of the final game to Boston College 5, Ohio State 2.

8. Refer to the HANKS data. Your task is to use a SAS program to count the number of movies in which Tom Hanks appeared in each of the years from 1984-1998, then make a scatterplot with the number of movies made in each year on the vertical axis versus the year on the horizontal axis. In some years, such as 1997, he did not appear in any movies. On the scatterplot, indicate those years by plotting a point at zero. To do this you could create another dataset with all of the years from 1984-1998 by using a Do loop, then MERGE that dataset with the dataset containing the movie counts. Then, you will need to replace missing values for movie counts with

The Three Ghost Stories

...looked down the Line. There was something remarkable in his manner of doing so, though I could not have said for my life what. But I know it was remarkable enough to attract my notice, even though his figure was foreshortened and shadowed, down in the deep trench, and mine was high above him, so steeped in the glow of an angry sunset, that I had shaded my eyes with my hand before I saw him at all. ‘Halloa! Below!’ From looking down the Line, he turned himself about again, and, raising his eyes, saw my figure high above him. ‘Is there any path by which I can come down and speak to you?’ 2 of 97 Three Ghost Stories He looked up at me without replying, and I looked down at him without pressing him too soon with a repetition of my idle question. Just then there came a vague vibration in the earth and air, quickly changing into a violent pulsation, and an oncoming rush that caused me to start back, as though it had force to draw me down. When such vapour as rose to my height from this rapid train had passed me, and was skimming away over the landscape, I looked down again, and saw him refurling the flag he had shown while the train went by. I repeated my inquiry. After a pause,...

The Victorian Age

...Семинар 6. Вопрос 1 THE VICTORIAN AGE   The Victorian Compromise The Victorian Age takes its name from Queen Victoria who ruled from 1837 to 1901; it was a complex era characterised by stability, progress and social reforms, and, in the mean time, by great problems such as poverty, injustice and social unrest; that’s why the Victorians felt obliged to promote and invent a rigid code of values that reflected the world as they wanted it to be, based on: * duty and hard work; * respectability: a mixture of both morality and hypocrisy, severity and conformity to social standards (possessions of good manners, ownership of a comfortable house, regular attendance at church and charitable activity); it distiguished the middle from the lower classes; * charity and philanthropy: an activity that involved many people, expecially women. The family was strictly patriarchal: the husband represented the authority and respectability, cosequently a single woman with a child was emarginated because of a wide-spread sense of female chastity. Sexuality was generaly repressed and that led to extreme manifestations of prudery. Colonialism was an important phenomenon and it led to a patriotism deeply influenced by ideas of racial superiority: British people thought that they were obeying to God by the imposition of their superior way of life. The concept of “the white man’s burden” was exalted in the works of colonial writers (such as Rudyard Kipling). This code of values, known...
