After a brief research of the latest versions of the following database management systems (DBMSs) on the market: Oracle 11G, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and IBM DB2. I found the following information about each DBMS’s.
Oracle 11G
The biggest advantage Oracle 11G has is that it can help you create customized database applications. Instead of getting a standardized database program out of the box, you get a program that can be customized to fit your needs. This makes it possible to create a database that only has the features you need. Another advantage is Data Mining. It makes it possible to find relationships in data that would otherwise be difficult to find on your own. As good as the above sounds it also comes with a couple of BIG disadvantages. The biggest would be the cost, if you plan on using the program on multiple computers, you will need to buy licenses for each computer. If you plan on making the software available on many computers, these costs can really add up. Another big disadvantage is it comes with a learning curve; this is not something that you can pick up in a short period of time.
Microsoft SQL Server
MS SQL Server is a Client-server relational database system, with no UI development tools built in. Some of it advantages are, Maintenance its has lots of tools for maintenance, can do most of it with users in DB. It is user friendly, great security, it minimizes redundancy, and it is very consistent. It also works great on an enterprise scale it is designed to support a lot more users and scales better to handle them. The only disadvantage I could find is the cost, and that some of the features can bill considered over kill and since there is so many it too can come with a learning curve.
MySQL
The biggest advantage of MySQL is the speed, under normal conditions, benchmarks show that MySQL tables beat every other general-purpose database

Healing Hospital

... Healing health care focus of the need of the entire being rather than focusing on curing the physical ailment. This concept advances the idea that apart from addressing the physical needs, the healing process should also address the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs. The healing hospital paradigm is made up of three major components; these include; a culture of loving care, a healing physical environment and an integrated work design and technology. However, there are several challenges experienced when attempting to implement the healing environment in the traditional hospital environment. This paper will discuss the components of healing hospitals and the challenges involved in implementing the healing environment. Components of a Healing Hospital Healing hospital paradigm lays more emphasis on the patient’s healing environment. This includes the kind of care the patient is receiving and the conditions the patient is exposed to when receiving treatment (Samueli Institute, 2010). Under the healing hospital paradigm, provision of care is not only limited to provision of medical intervention procedures and medication but also come down to how medical caregivers engage the patients and their relatives in the treatment process. This concept is based on the idea that emotional and spiritual wellbeing contributes to physical well being. According to this paradigm, the physical body, the mind and the spirit make up one body and all this parts must be well if the whole person...

...and must be done in a particular manner. Thus having the right application architecture is important where the design is concerned. Because the company has one large data center that each office connects to via a wide area network (WAN), hence the appropriate architecture for this solution would have to consist of a WAN diagram to be used in management of this project, along with system documentation, and information technology architecture documents to provide a visual representation of the network. A wide area networks (WANs) usually covers a large, physical area. And many WANs cover entire buildings, cities, states, or regions, thus the primary purpose of the WAN is to link together all the local area networks, of these other offices spread across the country. The Payroll program being used in this case study has been centered on having the proper application architecture that would be effective for the solution being deployed. It would take into consideration where each piece of equipment needs to be deployed and where its physical location should be sited and which is most effective for the organization. Thus an effective system would combine elements into an architecture, or design, that is flexible, cost-effective, technically sound, and able to support the information needs of the business. There would be a logical design of the payroll system into a physical structure, which would include hardware, software, network support, and processing methods. Therefore an Enterprise...

Logical Design and Physical Design

...Logical Design and Physical Design CMGT 555/ Systems Analysis and Development   Throughout the whole process of system development, there are designs that take place before any coding or setup takes place. During this time, phrases like logical design and physical design get tossed around a lot, but what are they and what do they mean? In short, the logical design defines what must take place, not how it is accomplished. The logical design is like a set of blue prints, it describes the actual processes of entering, verifying, and storing data. In this paper we will explain when logical designs and physical designs are used, what design information a logical design and physical design contain and any similarities or differences. Figure 1. Example of Logical Model and Physical Model for an ERD Relationship Diagram (Compare Logical and Physical ERD, 2009) The direct definition of a logical design “is the Conceptual Blueprint of a software application, illustrating entities, relationships, rules, and processes (Thibeault, 2011)”. So what is the logical design is used for? The logical design contains all the business entries, what each entries attributes are, and relationships among entries. Now the logical design to some is misleading because they often confuse it with detailed technical design, even though the goals for these two are not similar at all. Now when do we use the logical design? That question is simpler to answer; it usually starts during the requirements...

Reducing Falls

...Effects of Physical Restraints in Reducing Falls PICOT paper Larisa Myers Nova Southeastern University Effects of Physical Restraints in Reducing Falls Physical restraints are described as equipment attached to a patient’s body that limits movement. Physical restraints are commonly used in an adult medical facility to prevent patient’s falls or injuries, interference with clinical therapies, and protect patient from harming themselves or others (Kope et al., 2012). However, there is great debate whether or not physical restraints prevent falls. Evidence-based research can be used to expedite the recognition of adults at risks for physical restraints use and assists nurses to find alternative methods (Kope et al., 2012). Background Physical restraints are a common practice in industrialized countries (Kope et al., 2010). Older adults, who are confused, psychotic, and demented, have the greatest risk for being restrained in medical facilities (Kope et al., 2012). Physical restraints include hand mitts, waist belts, and wrist restraints to prevent body movements. The most common misconception among nurses is that restraints prevent falls or injuries (Kope et al., 2012). Data Bases and Key Terms The data base used to research effects of physical restraints in reducing injuries was CINAHL. The...

TEXT PREVIEW Physical Environment in Counseling and Planning I have recently read an interesting article about the impact of physical environment on the financial counseling and planning relationship and process. The publication raised my great interest because I have noticed before that our offices have several deficiencies that may have negative effects on the quality of our relationships with clients. The physical environment includes many aspects of our surrounding, including furniture and room design, color, accessories, lighting, sound, smell, thermal conditions and others. I have learned that all of these aspects can have bigger impact on relationships and the quality of our work that most people would expect. Therefore I took the initiative and researched the topic a little further to get a better understanding of the issue. Although there’s not a lot of a material available that refers strictly to financial planning, I was able to borrow ideas from other, more general studies. I believe that we can greatly improve our work place and clients’ satisfaction by implementing some changes in the physical environment in our office building. I came...

Healthcare

...Paradigm John Thompson Grand Canyon University: HLT 310V February 12, 2012 Healing Hospital: A Daring Paradigm Hospitals are constantly trying to improve. They are looking for ways to reduce costs, streamline treatments, more efficiently use staff, and improve patient satisfaction. In regard to its patients, a hospital’s role is to promote healing. “Although hospitals have long been thought of as places to cure disease, new ideas about what hospitals should be and how they should function are creating new challenges for hospital designers and caregivers” (Research Design Connections, 2004, ¶ 1). The healing hospital paradigm is a new concept that some hospitals are implementing to achieve a healing environment. This paper will: explore the reasoning behind this new model; discuss components of healing hospitals, including their connection to spirituality; and identify the challenges of implementing such a paradigm. Reasoning for Healing Hospital The healing hospital model both provides and reaps many benefits. The paradigm not only benefits the patient but also the healthcare team and the community in which it serves. It has been shown to result in “patient satisfaction, improved outcomes, caregiver satisfaction with increased chance for a positive sense of meaning in work and community satisfaction” (Zarren, n.d., p. 5). The institution that implements the healing hospital model receives remuneration with business success that follows superior healthcare...
