Marketing strategy In-N-Out’s marketing strategy will involve developing a unique “more for less” positioning based on the quality of their products, their excellent service, and quick but comfortable atmosphere. The company will establish differentiation from its competitors by offering a good quality and healthy veggie patty option for the non-meat eaters segment of the fast food market. The veggie patty will focus specifically on the vegetarian/non-meat eater market which includes all ages. Subsets include health conscious and socially responsible eaters, as well as vegetarians and vegans. In-N-Out is positioned on an “more for less” proposition. In-N-Out has found a niche somewhere in the middle. Because it wants to maintain its image of superior quality, In-N-Out can not price its products too low. But In-N-Out also can’t price its products to high because it needs to maintain its position in the fast food industry. In-N-Out’s competitors in the fast food industry price their burgers as low as $1.00 but local establishments average about $6.24 across the United States. Because their locations are not widespread, each location is relatively identical creating a sense of familiarity for customers. Each location offers the same products and will offer the veggie patty when it becomes available. The small number of locations also allows In-N-Out to maintain excellent product quality and service in each of its restaurants. The marketing for the new veggie patty will follow In-N-Out’s original marketing strategy. The social media advertisement will be limited and the product rely on word-of-mouth marketing. Promotional resources for the introduction of the veggie burger will focus on three areas:
Online marketing. Traditional media channels are no longer reaching the amount of customers that they did in the past. Online social media is replacing basic television, newspapers, etc. In-N-Out has always done very well on social media apps such as Facebook and Instagram. By deploying previews of the veggie burger on these platforms, In-N-Out can create a buzz among followers.
Word-of-mouth marketing. In-N-Out has always relied heavily on word-of-mouth marketing. Excited followers and customers will share In-N-Out’s social media posts to spread awareness. Satisfied customers will also recommend the product to prospective
