Difference Between Indian and Spanish Culture

... n.d.). Our culture defines who you are as a person; it contours ones judgment to a certain approach. In other words, it is our identity. Every nation has its own set of morals and is defined by its own distinct cultures; which gives rise to cultural differences between each and every country in this world. In this vast world, no two cultures are exactly identical. Taking into account India and Spain, needless to mention, both the cultures have an enormous amount of differences between them. Spain being a part of Europe is largely influenced by the European culture furthermore the Rome culture; on the other hand India’s culture is more multifaceted and has been influenced by colonialism over the past century- both collaterally and vernacularly (Sen Amartya, 2005). India is a home to a variety of different cultures; it is known to be the most diverse country in the world in every aspect. Looking into a major aspect of any culture that has existed, religion plays a major role in the upbringing. It influences the framework of a particular culture and individual human behavior too. India being a secular state has no official religion; it has equal tolerance for every religion. Secularism was adopted in the country in the late 1800s keeping in view the multi religious nature of the Indian society. (Engineer. A., 2003). However Spain adapted Roman Catholicism as its official religion, as it’s the largest group of Christianity practiced...

Corruption in Healthcare Services in India

...Health care services in India are facing different challenges from inadequate finance and poor management to inequity in terms of quality and access (Ramani-Mavalankar, 2006). However, corruption is that underlying problem, which if not tackled, would prevent from resolving all other kinds of difficulties (Potter, 2003). Therefore, in this essay I have endeavoured to understand the forms in which corruption is prevalent in Indian Healthcare Services. Along with this, I have also tried to suggest certain measures which would help tackle corruption. The former president of Medical Council of India, Mr.Ketan Desai has been charged with corruption both the times he has been elected for the post. Despite his removal in 2001 following the charges, he was re-elected by the Government of India in 2009 (Pandya 2009). Thereafter in 2011 Mr Desai was arrested by the CBI for accepting a highly culpable amount of bribe from two medical colleges seeking recognition. (Chauhan, 2011). Mr Desai justifies the definition of corruption by Transparency International, as the result of misused powers to benefit personally instead of doing public welfare (Vian, 2007). Moreover, this definition would be appropriate for the Government of India who elected a person with history of fraud to be the president of the central health governing body of the nation. Health sector, in any nation, is a vast network involving different participants at each stage ( Hussmann,2011). Therefore it becomes difficult...

My Contribution in Curbing Corruption

...clutches of the devil of corruption. It is true that corruption has become a global phenomenon, found in one shape or the other whether the country is a democratic, kingship, Socialist or Communist, developing or a developed but the common man is not so hardly affected by it as in India. In India, corruption has become a way of life. Corruption in India leads to promotion not prison. Corruption in India has wings not wheels. Corruption is a very big problem. This is also a reason for the poverty of the countries. People are becoming greedy because they want money and for this they are crossing their limits of bad works. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time. In recent Centuries India has earned a place among the THREE most corrupt countries in the world so we all need to stop talking about Corruption and ourself take the initiative and be Brave. There are various ways in which we can stop corruption for e.g. with the help of education we can reduce corruption. According to a survey conducted by India today the least corrupt state is Kerala, the reason being that in Kerala literacy rate is highest in India. So we can see how education helps in reducing corruption. In most of the states, normally a fairly large number of people are uneducated. Those who are uneducated do not know about the process, provisions and procedures through which they can get justice. Corrupt public servants try...

Market Economical Analysis

...INTRODUCTION This following report is used to justify the proposed country, India, as the potential country for Global Business Solutions’ client, Rein Wess (RW), to produce and sell their books. Therefore, this report highlights and debates on both aspects presented within the economic environment of India. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS Opportunities • Sustained Economic Growth According to various sources such as FTSE, MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), The Economist and Standard & Poor, India is believed to be a huge emerging market. India’s annual real GDP3 estimated growth is approximately 8% yearly in 2000 to 2008. This suggests that the current economic conditions are largely favourable as the economy is growing strongly and positively despite the GFC4. This provides RW’s business a stable economic foundation to start their business steadily in India. [pic] Figure 1, Source: (World Bank, 2011) & (ET Bureau, 2011) • Large Population Market India’s current 1.21 billion population (Census India, 2011) is expected to grow at 1.3% in 2010. (World Bank, 2011) Of which, 672 million people are in the age-group 15 to 64 years which falls under the "working age population". 50% of India's population is under 25 years of age and there is a higher male to female ratio (Census India, 2011). This is highly favourable for RW because there might be an increase in demand for educational books as both new entrants (mainly males) of the workforce along with...

Tracing Papon's Fandom

...Tracing Papon’s Fandom- An Autobiographical Sketch -Amlan J. Das M2015MC008 School of Media and Cultural Studies Wikipedia describes him as the founder and the lead singer of the folk fusion band Papon and the East India Company. He has around 37,500 followers on Twitter and 536,434 likes on his Facebook page. Born to legendary Assamese folk singer couple Khagen and Archana Mahanta, the world knows him as Papon while parents named him Angaraag Mahanta. Born on 24th November 1975, Papon crafted himself as one of the finest Assamese singers not just in the state but also across the country. His distinct voice and his selection of alternative Electronic fusion and folk fusion genre made his one of the popular names in the Indian music industry today. Assam has been a land of singer. From the likes of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika to Zubeen Garg, singers from the state have made a very distinct mark in the Indian music industry. But Papon managed to do is differently is that apart from conditioning him to industry conditions, he managed to bring out the Assamese folk culture out of the state. Call it the new age information order, boom of the internet or just chance, but other singers from the state haven’t been successful in doing what this Papon did. Before going deep into the bibliography of Papon, let move tangentially to my first association or my first introduction to this singer. Must have been the summer vacations of 2005, as a fifth grader student ...

The God of Small Things

...TEACHING THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS IN WISCONSIN: BACKGROUND AND CONTEXTS INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW Vinay Dharwadker Kerala and India are woven into the fabric of Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things. The novel assumes that its reader is familiar with many basic facts about these two places, especially their history and geography, society and culture, economy and politics. Roy grew up in Kerala, where her mother’s family had a home in the village of Aymanam, located on the outskirts of the town of Kottayam, on the other side of the River Minachil. Most of the action of The God of Small Things takes place in a village called “Ayemenem,” set near a river called “Meenachal.” Roy’s fictionalized village and river strongly resemble the real-life Aymanam and Minachil, and her narrative contains numerous references to the actual landscape of south-central Kerala, its people and their common customs, their music and dance, their religions and social organization, and their economic and political activities. The narrative also mixes its fictional elements with factual elements on a larger scale. Some of the novel’s “imaginary” episodes occur in the real town of Kottayam (about 2 miles from Ayemenem/ Aymanam, across the river) and in the historic port-city of Cochin (now Kochi, about 50 miles away to the northwest). The novel’s political discussion frequently blends fictional characters and organizations with real politicians and political parties: Comrade Pillai, for example, is an...
