IT / 205 – Management of Information Systems

The management at Dirt Bikes is concerned with how much is being spent on communication with people regarding the developments in the motorcycle industry and global economy. A potential alternative to how they are communicating today is making the internet their primary source of how they research, communicate and market their business. The assessment will conclude what would be more of a savings for the company, provide a recommendation of how Dirt Bikes can benefit from what the proposal, provide at least two tools that would be helpful and provide the benefit to the organization of wireless access to employees. Today Dirt Bikes may be losing potential customers and not obtaining the up to date information because the internet is not their primary source of data. Based on my assessment using the internet will help Dirt Bikes find information about the global economy and the motor cycle industry on a global scale.

This assessment discovered problems already existing in Dirt Bike's communications and information retrieval systems, the proposal will provide the best solutions. It will analyze the kind of internet tools and technologies that best benefit both the company, its employees, and meet all of their stated current and projected future needs. Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes

...Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes University of Phoenix Dirt Bikes is a global bike company that provides merchandise as well as support, tips and tools to its wide range of customers. Dirt Bikes has been in business since 1985 and has really doubled in size in the past 5 year. The company board members and senior staff have been looking for additional ways to grow Dirt Bikes even more, with the hopes of turning this business and to a multimillion dollar company. After reviewing the company’s business model I have come up with several ways to assist Dirt Bike with the growth of the business. As it stands Dirt Bikes has 3 store fronts and 2 50,000 feet warehouses that manufacturing is performed out of. Customers must currently come into a store, discuss bike options with employees and place bike orders in the store. The sales representative than plugs in the order on the computer that has been provided. Once the order has been put into the system, another employee at the warehouse begins to build the bike that the customer ordered at the store. Currently this process could take several weeks with a number of follow ups to the customer to ensure that the bike is being built to the customer’s satisfaction. My proposal is to continue to have a store front but also to create a global website, whereby anyone can go online to the Dirt Bike’s website and from their home computer, laptop or even from a smart phone build their own bike right online. Once all the specifications...

...Internet Solutions for Dirt Bikes | By: Frank HartmanMarch 17, 2013 | I have been asked to investigate how Internet tools and technology could be used to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently. Dirt Bikes provides Internet access to all employees who use desktop computers. I will look at different options and give Dirt Bikes a review of these options. I will also explain how these options can benefit Dirt Bikes. | | Intranet Tools and Benefits According to Laudon and Laudon (2009), Internet networking standards and Web technologies can be used to create private networks that are called intranets. An intranet is private and secure network that is restricted to use by authorized individuals. The intranet network is protected by a firewall which prevents unauthorized individuals from entering the network. Sales and Marketing could benefit from using an intranet system by having instant access to accurate information concerning product information, marketing analysis, sales reports, and other necessary information to make decisions for these departments. The human resources department could benefit from the intranet in a couple of different ways. This could start with the way that prospective employees apply for a job. By having the applicants use a secure terminal it would allow the HR department...

They are also concerned as to how much money is being spent to obtain information regarding productions in the motorcycle enterprise and the global economy. Now Dirt Bikes provides Internet access to all employees who use desktop computers with in their company, and I have been asked to investigate how Internet tools and technology could be used to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently. ...Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes Cole N Bratton IT 205 March 23, 2014 Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes Updating a network system in an organization could greatly reduce the cost of communications within the company by connecting all departments in the organization to one main network and server with all the information that will be needed for sales, marketing, human resources, manufacturing, and production of the product. This goal can be accomplished by creating a local area network, also known as a LAN, which will connect all of the organizations personal computers and devises to each other. Popular LAN operating systems are made available from Linux or Novel. An intranet, an internal system within a company that all employees can access to gain information, would benefit Dirt Bikes organization in the human resources department through a centralized server with all employee information and benefits located on it. This server will allow for efficient and accurate retrieval of information such as social security numbers, home addresses, and benefits acquired by each employee such as paid leave and retirement. The employees in the HR department will no longer have to wait for needed information from managers in other departments as all the information will be readily available to them, being safely and securely held on the networked server of the company. ...Internet Tools for Dirt Bikes Dorothy Hodge IT/205 July 7, 2013 Art Kreitman Internet Tools for Dirt Bikes Fast and accurate data is something that every organization needs to rely on. Finding ways to save money is one of the biggest concerns of companies today. After reviewing Dirt Bikes’ current operations, I am able to see that there is a problem with communication within the business as well as difficulty with obtaining much needed information that could be used to improve the business. Lack of communication within the business can end up causing employees to spend more time gathering all of the information they need instead of focusing on the customer. It can also lead to the inability to complete daily tasks. The lack of communication between the company and their vendors could cause delays in production or shipping which would hurt the company financially. There are a few steps that I would like to recommend that would allow Dirt Bikes to operate more effectively while at the same time cut costs of current procedures. The first thing that I would like to recommend is the installation of an intranet that will be designed for the organization and one that will only allow access for authorized personnel. The intranet will be secure and will come equipped with a firewall that will assist in keeping hackers out of the system. An intranet would allow all departments within the organization to connect with each other, which would put the information they need...

...Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes Damon Davis IT 205 11/28/2010 Sharon Ray Axia College of University of Phoenix Dirt bikes could benefit from intranet because it is a private network. It’s private and protected from public visits by Firewalls to keep unwanted guests out. Intranet also reduces operational costs so we won’t have to pay a lot and to link electronically to customers and suppliers. Since Intranet cuts its operational costs it won’t cost much to use it and won’t affect your sells. It is the world’s largest implementation of client computing and internetworking. Paid, sponsored advertisements are the fastest form of powerful marketing tools that match consumer interests with advertising messages at the right moment. An intranet can be used in a business to allow authorized customers to have limited access to its internet intranet. Authorized buyers could link to a portion of the company’s intranet to obtain information about the costs and features of the company’s products. The Intranet’s firewall makes sure that only authorized clients and buyers access the company’s products. It does this by ensuring that the access to the company’s internal data is limited and secure. Intranets are great ways to sell your product and to get it out on the market. Another way to stay in contact with customers, suppliers and employees more easily is wireless communication. It also provides more flexible arrangements for organizing work. ...and the number one convenience store chain in the United States, with 5,300 stores. This company started out about 75 years ago as an ice-dock operator. When refrigerators started replacing iceboxes, the manager of each store asked customers one-by-one what items they’d like to stock in their new appliances. By asking customers directly and stocking only the items customers most wanted, the company grew and prospered. Over time, the company moved away from its roots, losing touch with customers along the way. It had no means of knowing what sold in each store and allowed vendors to decide what to stock on its shelves. Although large vendors, such as Coca-Cola and Frito-Lay, had powerful information systems for analyzing what they sold in individual stores, other vendors didn’t have such systems. Moreover, the vendors’ systems were designed to maximize opportunities for their businesses, not for 7-Eleven. 7-Eleven stores are not all alike. What their customers want depends a great deal on the neighborhood and region of the country where they are located. What sells well in Boston may not work in Texas. Without detailed knowledge of its customer and sales patterns, 7-Eleven was unable to determine which items were selling well, or which items were most profitable to sell in the first place. This made a difference to the company’s bottom line because of missed sales opportunities, lower profits, and excess store inventory, some of which consisted of perishable goods that had a very...

Supply Chain Control

...Harley Davidson produces expensive and powerful motor bikes which are sold throughout the world. Company is very successful and has a good profit. Yet back in 80-th Harley Davidson faced difficulties and was at the brink bankruptcy. In order to survive Harley Davidson decided to change chain of supplies. The first step was to reduce number of suppliers from 4000 to 350. Then Harley Davidson started to work on improving on the chain and trying to decrease expenses of supply’s chain. In 2000 Harley Davidson decided to improve infrastructure of information technologies. It started to use internet technology and asked its suppliers to use EDI for the information exchange. Harley Davidson created the web portal which calls Harley Davidson Sypply Net. Using this portal suppliers can track needed information about placed orders, transactions, forecast etc. The key tools of the portal and EDI are the scanners and barcode. Most of the spare parts and all consignments had barcode. Nowadays the technology is changing and more and more popular become RFID system which came to replace barcode. I think the Harley Davidson can start using RFID as it can give many advantages to company. First of all it will allow Harley Davidson to track inventory much faster as the tag doesn’t require line of sight and information can be read from the far distance which can’t be done with the barcode. There is no need to open each box and present the individual item because tags within a carton packed in a box...
