Individual Learning Plan

Section I – Introduction

I am a person for whom it is not easy to answer the question, “tell me about yourself”. I have lived in so many different countries (USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, to name a few), traveled to the far corners of the earth, studied at world class institutions, cooked at Michelin star restaurants, commanded troops into battle, and most recently entered the cut throat world of investment banking. Each experience, enriching me; expanding my total package. As a result, when asked the simple query of where I’m from; more often then not, I am at a loss for worlds. This question is probably the hardest for me to answer. Tell me about your self can be edited, it can be paraphrased, details regarding the picture I wish to paint can be included or omitted at my discretion. It is simple to choose “introduce” ones self as a student, as a soldier, as a chef, as a banker. It is not so simple, for me, to paraphrase my nationality. Is ones nationality an indication of the type of person he is? Most educated people would say no. Then why is it the first question that we are asked when meeting new people. Why is the geographic location of your upbringing the first or second question asked of you when forming new relationships? For me it is a question I would just rather not answer, at least not to strangers that I might or might not see or speak to again. Why should I spend so much internal effort explaining my various stops along the way to a person that I most likely will not see again? Furthermore, why should I be required to provide such detailed insight into my life at the drop of a hat? If I want to get to know you better, then chances are you will hear my stories and you will
