Prior to America's industrial boom in the Gilded age, America had previously finished the Civil War and began the period of Reconstruction to fix the destroyed south while throughout this period the North expanded its industrial size. Throughout the period from 1865 to 1900 the American Government was in a large part isolationism, meaning that America's government was not investing in other nations ordeals. The isolationism policy helped foster improvements in American society and industrialization. America's Industrialization also sparked a large economic boom in addition that Americans moved to Urban environments. Firstly, Samuel Gompers a leader of the AFL addresses to a pro labor organization, the rights that should be given to people to help make working conditions for workers better (doc F.). This shows that, labor unions where increasing popularity due to the unfair working conditions such as no minumum wage and set work restrictions. The document illustrates the inhumane treatments that are prevalent in these factories. With the rise of the industrial age and the growth of urban factories inhumane treatment of workers also rose, as an effect of the rise of unfair working conditions, labor unions such as Industrial Workers of the World and , American Socialist Party gained large support in order to seek working reforms. Secondly, document A shows that the cost food prices, fuel and lighting prices and the cost of living all decreased between 1870 and 1899. This shows that there was growth in agriculture and due to new technologies and overproduction the prices of food decreases. This was an effect on industrialization was that labor unions were created in agriculture in addition to the overproduction and lowering of prices if the fuel and lighting industries, the labor unions were created in order to gain government support to stop the cycle of overproductions and to monetarily make the prices of the resources steady. Andrew Carnegie, a large steel company owner, addresses to the American public that the importance of wealth is not only to help themselves but to help the community (doc D). This shows that, large business owners saw that in order to help the community they first had to assume all of the money in order to then give back to the poor instead of directly paying in a factory. Industrialization had the effect that large business leaders saw themselves above the middle and lower class citizens exemplified by the Gospel of Wealth a pro Big Business novel. Secondly, George Rice, a previous small oil company owner, illustrates how the monopoly Standard Oil owned by Rockefeller manipulated the economy to buy out the competition and then raise the price of oil later. This shows that, in order for Standard Oil to bet other companies they manipulated the economy to lower their prices, still, once the smaller companies where out of business Rockefeller would then raise prices and society would suffer.
