MGMT 398-012 1. Who did you interview and why? Describe in detail what this person does for a living.
So for this assignment, I person I chose to interview is my mom because I believe what she does is great! She is a nail salon worker, very typical of Vietnamese immigrant. It takes a huge amount of humility and tough work in her world. In contrary her existence is unique and wonderful. She does people’s nails, mostly women. She give them services such as pedicure, and manicures. To explain what manicures and pedicures are, manicures is like a fancy massage and pampering of one’s hands and pedicures is the same for one’s feet. As a guest wanting a manicure, he or she would first soak their hands in a warm salt water bath to loosen the dead skin. Then their hands are gently massage with pumice rock to remove the dead skin. The guest then get a series of massages and stretches of their hands to help releases their tension. The hands then get dipped in a warm wax solution. The wax is intended to lock in the moisture in the hand to keep them beautiful and prevent them from drying out. So that’s a basic manicures is like. 2. What did you learn? What surprised you? What disappointed you? Nail salon business is a unique niche to its own. Statistically, nail salon businesses are mostly owned by a Vietnamese. This create a whole subculture that is quite complex. Among the employees, they communicate in Vietnamese. They have a unique culture in which there are a lot of informalities. Often time, there are no guide line to what is expected of a nail worker, and everything is up to the worker to decide at the moment. One might call it controlled chaos. But in this world, nail salon workers are indeed subjected to many challenges. In the morning, my mom wakes up at around 7. She does some chore around the house and prepare a meal for her work day. She has this same routine for years. Hardly ever she would go out to restaurant for lunch so she can save more money. She work until around 8 at night and usually get home by 9. 3. What do you like about their job? What do you dislike?
The thing I like most about my mom job is that it give my mom a way to provide for her family. Doing nails is hard work but it pays well. On average, a nail salon worker can earn $50,000 per year. Although, a nail salon worker can make even more than that when tip is included. Most of time, tip money in cash is more even reported to their total earning. Considering that you don’t need a formal education to become a nail worker, it is quite a high earning job.
I don’t like that it is such a competitive and a cut throat business. You would think that since a lot of the nail workers are Vietnamese, there would be a comradery but usually it is the opposite. For example, during slow time when there aren’t a lot of guests coming in, the employees would fight each other’s to get that customer. Sometime things can get ugly and drama would break out. 4. Is this something you would like to do? Why or why not?
Doing nail is not so much what I would like to do but owning and operating a nail salon is something that I would consider. I think that this is a real opportunity that one can become very financially successful. There is a lot of demand for this kind of service and there is a lot of money to be made. With my language skill and business knowledge, I think that I can be a very effective manager at a nail salon business. 5. What advice he or she would give to someone who want to pursue this job?
The advice that my mom has for someone that would want to work in a nail salon is to have a lot of humility and being able to stay aware. There are a lot of challenges in this business that is hard to quantify and to put into words. When you are a nail worker, you just have to mind yourself and try to revolve issue the most peaceful way possible. An example of something that you might have to deal with when you are a nail worker is that you might have to keep track of your earning and tax form. It had happened to my mom that the owner of the salon she worked for claimed more a higher earning for her actual amount and that caused her to pay more taxes. 6. How much money does someone in this position make annually?
On average a nail salon worker can make around $50,000 per year. As of this year, my mom claimed that she had made $53,400 in total wages. However this number is usually not include cash tip and so the actual earning might be even higher. Of course your earning can be double or triple that if you are owning your own business and are doing the right things

What Is Infor Abot?

...The domain name info is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. The name is derived from information indicating that the domain is intended for informative Internet resources, although registration requirements do not prescribe any theme orientation. The info TLD was a response to ICANN's highly publicized announcement[citation needed], in late 2000, of a phased release of seven new generic top-level domains. The event was the first addition of major gTLDs since the Domain Name System was developed in the 1980s. The seven new gTLDs, selected from over 180 proposals, were meant in part to take the pressure off the com domain.[1] The info domain has been the most successful of the seven new domain names, with over 5.2 million domain names in the registry as of April 2008. After the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York switched to the easier to remember mta.info website to lead users to latest information on schedules and route changes on the area's transportation services. Even in 2013, a website, Current Score info, was formed to provide current score of Football and Cricket across India. ICANN and Afilias have also sealed an agreement for country names to be reserved by ICANN under resolution 01.92.[2] info is an unrestricted domain, meaning that anyone can obtain a second-level domain under info for any purpose, similar to the com, net or org domains. This is in contrast...

Child Abuse

...Thousands of children each year are traumatized by physical, sexual, and emotional abusers or by caregivers who neglect them. The abuse has a profound effect on the child. With the special nature of these cases, forensic psychologists must use special techniques to take care of the child and case. Section 1: The Forensic Interview and Why it should be used The interview process consists of four steps. The first step is to establish a rapport with the victim through a few methods. Firstly, introduce yourself and provide some basic info about yourself as an icebreaker of sorts and get the victim more comfortable. After introductions, ask some info about the victim in simple terms that the victim can understand. The child is more than likely going to be nervous in an unknown environment talking to an unfamiliar person. The next method is to empathize with the victim. Not only will it make the child more comfortable, the child will open up and provide more information. The interview is more than likely going to be electronically recorded for protection of the victim. The third method is to not ask any coercive questions and ask open questions to expand conversation. (Cheung, 2003). The second step is to get the child’s official statement via open narrative. This is when the child should tell the interviewer what happened in his or her own words. Once this narrative is given, the third step immediately occurs. This step involves questioning the child. There are a variety of questions...

Probation and Parole Interview/Case Study

...Case 1: Review the following case study. Discuss each point of motivational interviewing, why it was used, and whether or not it was successful. What was done well in this interview, and why? What would you have done differently, and why? Of the theories we have learned in this unit, which theory stands out in this interview? Where and how? “A client-centered and empathetic counseling style is one fundamental and defining characteristic of motivational interviewing. We regard the therapeutic skill of reflective listening or accurate empathy ... to be the foundation on which skillfulness in motivational interviewing is built ... Through skillful reflective listening, the counselor seeks to understand the client’s feelings and perspectives without judging, criticizing, or blaming ... The crucial attitude is a respectful listening to the person with a desire to understand his or her perspective” (Miller & Rollnick, 2002, p. 37) In this case, the Motivational interviewing refers to an interpersonal counseling or communication style rather than a specific therapy or set of techniques (Rollnick & Miller, 1995). This style is evident in the process of MET (Motivational Enhancement Therapy). The focus of this particular interview was on helping the client to overcome reluctance or ambivalence on his own, while allowing him to make positive changes in his approach to anger management. The therapy did not assume that the client wanted to change, but lead the client to own their need...

Goals

...All Business states that your small business can use different types of recruitment and selection methods. In human resources' jargon, recruiting or advertising for new employees is sometimes referred to as "sourcing," meaning using different sources to find said employee candidates. Once a number of candidates are found, you must qualify each and determine if they are a good fit.(dunlapp, n.d.) Internal sourcing is the practice of advertising a new or recently vacated position within a business to existing employees. More businesses have come to use internal sourcing as a method to recruit employees upward or laterally within the company because little or no training is needed, and expenses that include advertising for a new employee and running background checks are spared. It also fosters loyalty and parity among team members. External sourcing is a method of recruitment that conducts an employee candidate search through external recruitment tools, such as job boards, newspaper advertisements and trade publication announcements. This method favors bringing in job candidates that may or may not have direct experience in your small business' line of work; a candidate within a satellite field may offer a fresh, out-of-the-box perspective to the organization. External sourcing is also used when the open position is not able to be filled by a current employee because of the technicality or specialty of the position. Small Business recommends that you know exactly what type of job...

Well as with all creative pursuits’ content writing also demands a fair bit of creativity apart from consistent quality. But when you have both, writing can be a fulfilling calling indeed. This small content/copy writing interview guide lists the interview questions common to all jobs apart from focusing on the questions more likely to be asked in any interview for a content or Web copy writer. While I was planning to write a small content writing interview guide for a long time what finally made me put my fingers to the keyboard was the truly vast experience gained after giving 11 interviews in 14 days! Persistence does pay at the end of the day. The Getup: As content writing is a relatively informal job, even an informal getup with a semi-formal shirt should do fine. No need for any tie or suit. Punctuality: This is a must irrespective of the job you apply for. Make sure you reach the venue at least 15-20 minutes before the appointed time and put your documents or reference of past work in order and do remember to have an attractive resume in hand. 1) Tell me something about yourself. This is the most common interview question which will almost certainly be asked to any candidate. ...Sample Interview Questions with Suggested Ways of Answering Q. Tell me about yourself. A. This is the dreaded, classic, open-ended interview question and likely to be among the first. It's your chance to introduce your qualifications, good work habits, etc. Keep it mostly work and career related. Q. Why do you want to leave your current job? (Why did you leave your last job?) A. Be careful with this. Avoid trashing other employers and making statements like, "I need more money." Instead, make generic statements such as, "It's a career move." Q. What are your strengths? A. Point out your positive attributes related to the job. Q. What are your weaknesses? A. Everybody has weaknesses, but don't spend too much time on this one and keep it work related. Along with a minor weakness or two, try to point out a couple of weaknesses that the interviewer might see as strengths, such as sometimes being a little too meticulous about the quality of your work. (Avoid saying "I work too hard." It's a predictable, common answer.) For every weakness, offer a strength that compensates for it. Q. Which adjectives would you use to describe yourself? A. Answer with positive, work-oriented adjectives, such as conscientious, hard-working, honest and courteous, plus a brief description or example of why each fits you well. Q. What do you know about our company? A. To answer this one, research the company before you interview. Q. Why do you want to work for us? A. Same as above. Research the company...
