First of all, Megara is the only relevant woman in the film. While nearly anyone can rattle off the male characters (Hercules, Phil, Hades, Zeus…), I even stumble over naming the female cast. I was shocked to see that Hercules is not even close to passing the Bechdel test for female representation in films. To “pass,” a movie must: 1. Have at least two [named] women in it 2. Who talk to each other 3. About something besides a man. One would think, “two named women? That’s easy!” But the only examples I can come up with are Megara and Hera, Hercules’ mother. They never talk to each other, but if they did, I’m sure it would be about the “Wonderboy.” Not a good start, Herc.
