Statement of Purpose
When first researched, Instrumental (operant) conditioning was regarded as a type of learning that involves the acquisition of emitted responses (i.e., responses, like a wink of the eye, that can occur in the absence of reliable or well-defined antecedent stimuli and are experienced as voluntary) (Kirsch and Lynn, 2004). Recently there has been more insight of Instrumental Conditioning. It is currently been described as Operant conditioning that is a method of learning that occurs through responses of changes of behavior. Through operant conditioning, there is an association is made between the behavior and a results that are encountered for that behavior.

Introduction
Instrumental conditioning is seen as a type of learning in which organisms associate their own actions with consequences; behavior is strengthened if followed by being reinforced or it is diminished if followed by some type of punishment. Instrumental conditioning often involves operant behavior, as the organism's behavior is essential on making something happen; it operates on the environment to produce the rewarding or punishing stimuli. If the consequence is unpleasant, the behavior then diminishes. Research has shown that positive reinforcement has proven to be more effective than negative reinforcement or punishment.
Research states that the theory of Operant conditioning also known as

...Classroom Etiquette Raising Of the Hand One tough notion for a child to absorb is for every action or behavior there are consequences. By teenage years an individual has learned this, but in spite of his knowledge, their desires often will rather point towards avoiding any negative aftereffects. Instrumental learning is learning the connection between a behavior and its consequence. The behaviors of individual organisms are instrumental in producing various outcomes, some positive and some unwanted (Terry, 2009). A task as effortless as learning how properly to raise one’s hand can be described using instrumental conditioning. Learning this can be simple or challenging using positive and negative reinforcements during the process of learning. Using proper classroom etiquette can be taught and influenced by reward and punishment in the learning process. Gaining knowledge of any task is achieved by a chosen instrumental conditioning. Comprehension of the rules concerned in learning any task will help the instructor in selecting the most beneficial instrumental conditioning method. The goal to learning to raise one’s hand at the appropriate times is using a proper classroom behavior, which also assists in the learning process of the class. Following classroom rules is the essential portion of this task. To receive positive reaction from the teacher one must follow the rules. The first step to this process is the teacher must make the rules known at the...

Instrumental Conditioning In Antigone

...The Relationship of Moral Beliefs in “Antigone” and Instrumental Conditioning “Antigone”, a tragedy written by Sophocles in approximately four hundred forty one BC, contains multiple examples of moral versus social beliefs. Just like the moral and social beliefs in today's society, people had very strong standpoints on several different issues. With that being said, there are multiple issues having to do with moral and social standpoints in society today, an example of one of these is instrumental conditioning. Instrumental conditioning is useful in improving an individual’s behavior. Because it is a learning process that involves the subject linking behavior with consequences, much of what individuals learn is the result of such associations....

Lyric Censorship: Language Is Power

...Lyric Censorship: Language is Power Words create powerful emotions in all of us. They are used to express our feelings, thoughts and ideas, as well as communicate with one another. There are countless examples in history where we see language equating power. Within those examples we see people in the position of power, using this power of language to degrade their enemies and those they consider beneath them, and shape language in their favor. Music ties into language completely. The words of song lyrics convey powerful messages. As language is power, those in control seek to repress the power of this language in music, attempting to keep the power in their favor. But this attempt at censorship only gives those words even more influence and any attempt to infringe our right to free speech should be fought for to prevent its loss. The censorship of lyrics has occurred globally and can be dated back as far as music and poetry can be traced. Let’s take Asia as an example. Under the ruling of the Taliban in Afghanistan, music became a crime (Korpe, 2004). Instruments were burned, and people were severely punished for singing or creating any kind of music that was not deemed acceptable by the government. In Kabal, President Rabbani went as far as to create an Office for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, which was used to regulate the lyric of song in the favor of the government, and punish those who spoke ill towards those in power. In Pakistan...

...The Impact of Musical Lyrics on the Lives of Graduate Counseling Students Taylor Swift, Ke$ha, Usher, Eminem, or Nicki Minaj these are popular artists or as some would consider them their favorite artist and we all have one. In my study I wanted to find out what people liked more in music the lyrics or the artist, and with that in mind I wanted to narrow my thoughts on to why do people hear certain songs and what does it mean to them? Song lyrics have more importance for some than for others as in the general populous (Buser, Flannery, Bentley & Gladding, 2005, p. 90). I want to know how important are those lyrics and its messages are to the general music hearing population. Buser, Flannery, Bentley & Gladding conducted a study by surveying 28 graduate students in counseling on the meaning of lyrical music in their lives. Their results showed that some songs were more popular or better remembered than others. Their data also showed that while some lyrics are personally meaningful and others conveyed important messages, a number of lyrics are just relaxing, joyful, and entertaining without a deeper level of significance to them. Although their data had its limitations with only surveying 28 graduate students in counseling, and the majority of those being female does limit the study’s findings. It still shows us what few people see in songs and the meaning that the lyrics are trying to convey onto their audience. 1. Does genre determine the depth of...

The dependent clause, which is introduced by although, tells readers information the author considers less important, that too little sleep is an effect of stress (that is, people who are stressed may not sleep well). Fin555 Case 3

...1. Mercury is properiate for AGI as long as AGI could acquire by a price not much higher than Mercury’s true intrinsic value. According to Liedtke’s analysis, this acquisition will almost double AGI’s size, which would give it some competitive advantages in both operating and financing. Additionally, according to table 2 and Ex1, AGI and Mercury have an exactly same operating metrics, including RONA, ROE, and Asset Turnover during the past three years, which also makes Mercury a proper target. Except for Women’s Casual Footwear division, which will be closed in one year after acquisition, the other three of Mercury all demonstrate a prosperous future prediction in margins and growth. 2. As shown in Appendix, Net Income Margin, NWC as % of Revenue, and Depr. as % of PPE projected by Liedtke maintains stable and reasonable, compared with both the industry average and Mercury’s previous performance. Specifically, revenue growth rate will drop by a large degree in 2008 for the reason that AGI plan to shut down the business of Women’s Casual Footwear. It is still reasonable because EBIT margin and other ratios will be stable and close that business will not hurt the business as a whole. However, the EBIT and EBITDA Margin are recommended to be lower than the projection because Mercury got most of its sales from discount promotions, and it is suggested to keep this strategy, which may lower down the margins. 1. 2. 3. 1.
