InterClean Company Development Plan University of Phoenix-Diamond Bar HRM/531 Human Capital Management September 19, 2010

InterClean looks at two key elements of a job analysis, one it identification of major job requirements (MJR) which are the most important duties and responsibilities of the position to be filled. They are the main purpose or primary reasons the position exists. The primary source is the most current, official position description. The second element is identification of knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) required to accomplish each MJR and the quality level and amount of the KSA’s needed. Most job analysis deal with KSAs that are measurable, that can be documented, and produce meaningful differences between candidates. Typically, possession of KSAs is demonstrated by experience, education, or training. Goals of KSAs is to identify those candidates who are potentially best qualified to perform the position to be filled. (U.S. Department of Interior, 1998) InterClean

The formation of new job descriptions, specifications, a formal job analysis and workforce planning system will be key to the long term success of this company. Interclean, Inc. will no longer be hiring by “gut feel” type interviews, but instead will be hiring thorough a more thorough selection process. They are planning to launch a marketing blitz announcing the launch of their new solutions focus. The sales force excels at demonstrating and selling products, however, CEO David Spencer envisions high performance teams that not only sell its high quality products, but also educate and train clients in the customer’s organizations. In preparation for the launch, leadership must evaluate the skills and talents within the organization and determine the needs to realize the new strategy. Situation Analysis Issue and Opportunity Identification The current organizational structure does not support the new strategy. The current sales staff lacks the skill set to excel in the future company focus. “High-performing firms display a greater commitment to training and skill development than their lower-performing counterparts. This practice, a core HRM activity, is related to other ideas about the need for continuous improvement and development over time. Thus, firms must take care to select people with the ability and willingness to learn and develop, and they must establish reward practices that encourage employees to participate in training activities.” (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001, ch.1, p.13-14). Problem Solution: Interclean, Inc.

...Problem Solution: InterClean, Inc. InterClean, Inc. is an industry leader in the industrial cleaning and sanitation industry. Over the years the company has graduated from being a spray and wipe products but rather a solutions and services industry. InterClean, Inc. is trying to make the transition from being a solely sales-based organization to a solutions-based organization. The company has acquired Envirotech in an effort to be a fully all inclusive organization. This has prompted various changes in the organization. In the following paper I will discuss issues and opportunities that could possibly face the company, stakeholders that are involved, alternative solutions, an optimal solution and the implementation of that solution. Situation Analysis Issue and Opportunity Identification The new strategic direction that InterClean, Inc. is undertaking has led to a few very distinct issues. The issues have presented the company with new opportunities to better itself. The CEO of Interclean has determined that the employees of the company have low morale. There needs to be some type of employee motivation. The company will be adding new workshops that will instill confidence and get the employees excited about the changes that will be happening. Pay and other rewards can stimulate employee effort toward reaching key goals—such as high performance (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001). Training and developing employees is necessary with all companies. Interclean and Enviro Tech Merger

...InterClean and Enviro Tech Merger HRM 548 - Recruitment and Retention Practices August 5, 2013 InterClean and Enviro Tech Merger InterClean, Inc. is a strong player in the $8 billion institution and industrial cleaning, and sanitation industry. For InterClean to become a major player and increase its profitability, it is vital for the company to evolve with the industry. InterClean is exploring ways to increase the service based division of the organization. With the recent acquisition of Enviro Tech and its personnel, InterClean can do just that. The company must consider, however, how to redefine sales staffing and customer service, as well as restructure the organization to achieve maximum profitability. With a strong strategy, InterClean can easily attain the sales goal of a 40% increase in profitability over the next year. Rightsizing, or downsizing, in an organization is always a difficult decision, even when it is the “right” decision. Before moving forward with any rightsizing efforts, InterClean should consider all options. Currently, InterClean has 45 employees, half of which have one year or less experience with the organization. With the acquisition of Enviro Tech, there are now an additional 50 employees, all of whom have 5 years or more experience. One option would be to absorb the Enviro Tech employees into the InterClean sales team, using their education and experience to assist with the development of the current employees. With 90% of the Enviro...

Duncan University of Phoenix February, 2008 InterClean Inc-Strategic Alignment-MBA-530 Introduction In developing human resources (HR) management approaches to the InterClean Inc. scenario, fundamental principals are necessary for the completion of a unified plan. The creation of business unit interdependence, based on a central company vision that is communicated throughout the organization is considered the primary key to achieving sustained competitive advantage. Rather than viewing the InterClean Inc. transition as a problem, this paper attempts to organize the process as an enterprise opportunity to address real issues necessary for the new products/services campaign. Included in this analysis through the 9 step PBL model, are concepts meant to support informed business decisions that have proven to help real world companies succeed in growing from change proposals, to achieving and maintaining effective HR practices. Describe the Situation Restructuring the framework of InterClean Inc. requires an organizational commitment towards accomplishing new objectives. The main focus for management should be to communicate clearly with all departments how important operational effectiveness and strategy is, for making the products services vision work. Each business unit must be aware of the necessity for activities to interrelate, while consistently...

David Spencer who is the CEO of InterClean, goal is to provide full spectrum of cleaning services and solutions packages that will become the major avenue for sales (University of Phoenix, 2010). ...Running Head: CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN SUMMARY As part of the merger and new business strategy, it becomes necessary to reorganize the company to accommodate both staff and create new sales teams. To determine the staffing needs of the sales department it also becomes necessary to evaluate the sales position. Since the business strategy has dramatically changed, the sales position has dramatically changed as well. New job analyses and workforce plans need to be created and new teams selected. While there are numerous selection methods, the selection methods determined appropriate for this new sales team is a peer assessment, an interview, and recommendations. It has become necessary to create five new positions. The positions will consist of: (1) Senior Manager, (1) Sales Team Leader (3) Sales Representatives. Focusing on the talent available and the identified job descriptions a review of the available employees was performed, placing emphasis on the soft skills, which are harder to develop. It is my recommendation that for these newly created positions we hire out side of the company. It’s a great idea to consider an internal candidate for a critical position opening and compare him to the slate if outside candidates. (Tolan, 2008) InterClean is committed to being open to a diverse culture not only in terms of race, gender, or sexual orientation but in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, backgrounds and experience. The following will benchmark four HR strategies including training, skills assessment, organizational structure, and strategic planning all of which could be used to effectively transition to a single company whereby solution-based sales are provided. AT&T The largest provider of both local and long distance telephone services and the second largest provider of wireless services in the United States, AT&T services more than 150 million total customers nationwide (Wikipedia, 2009). Our next step is to develop a performance and career management program that continues to work in alignment with the company’s new strategic direction. Performance management includes activities to ensure that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. Performance management reminds us that training, strong commitment, and hard work alone is not enough to achieve desired results. InterCleans major contribution of performance management is its focus on achieving results – the sales team will be trained to engage directly with facilities managers, health care professionals, and operational executives in their customers' organizations (University of Phoenix, n.d). In addition to performance management, career management is a critical tool that will be applied to provide employees with a life long, self-monitored process of career planning that involves setting personal goals and formulating strategies for achieving them. The development of a performance and career management program will explain the employee feedback process, manager’s assistance with helping employee’s reach a higher level of performance, opportunities for advancement, flexible schedules, adaptation to team diversity, and program costs...

The InterClean, Inc. is competing to fulfill the emerging need of providing solutions and services as well as products catered to the stringent environmental safety requirements (University of Phoenix, 2008). By making the employees happy, they will make the customers happy and show continues support for the growth of the company. This would make Interclean to attain their sales goal by increasing the profit of the company by 40% in the following year.
