...Zakah A pioneering experiment putting the principles of Islamic banking into practice was conducted in Mit-Ghamr in Egypt from 1963 to 1967, in which three types of accounts were operated. A Zakah account was one of them. The Zakah account attracted the stipulated amount of Zakah for redistribution amongst the poor (Ausaf Ahmed, op cit, p.21). Since Islamic banks follow the rules of The Islamic Shariah, they have to pay Zakah on their own resources (capital assets etc.), which paved the way for mobilization of financial resources for the needy and poor. "An Islamic bank accumulates its Zakah in the Zakah fund and distributes amongst the poor as per Islamic Shariah" (Hussain, op cit). ISLAMI BANK FOUNDATION SOCIAL INVESTMENT BANK LIMITED Social Investment Bank Ltd. of Bangladesh, a newly incorporated Islamic Bank, also has some welfare programs under its non-formal and voluntary sector of banking. The money collected (the fund) is then given in rotation to each member of the group. The leader receives no special consideration (other than possibly getting the first fund). He may also get commission, who in return may assume liability for defaults. Loans are......

This is attributable to the oil revenues and the booming real estate market. UAE is also now fast developing as alternative luxury tourist destination. However, the falling oil prices, banking crisis and turbulence in the real estate have done a lot of damage to the economy. The economy of UAE is open with the high living standard of the people and equally higher per capital income with the annual trade surpluses as well. In the last 30 years, the economy of UAE has always been known as that of based on oil and oil products but some serious efforts in last two decades has changed this scenario and now the GDP of UAE based on oil and natural gas is just 25%. The government is now quite concerned with the creation of jobs, creation of world class infrastructure and opening up its many areas for the private players.
