Criminal Justice Personal Statement

...On June 25, 1997, I started this journey of life at 6:33 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Hospital. I am the first born of Peter & Kimberly Wren, II. At the time, my father was the youth minister at my grandfather’s church. Although my mother matriculated and graduated with a degree from Stillman College she decided to devote her life to caring for Kinsley, Chynna, Peter, III, and me. Watching the selfless service and sacrifices of my parents has motivated me to strive for excellence, servitude, and discipline. Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama has gifted me in many ways. A few of the gifts have been in education, southern hospitality, and cultural awareness. My primary education started at Inverness Elementary School. Not only was I able to learn, mingle with others, but once a week I was able to buy my favorite slush. I attended Inverness from Kindergarten through Fourth grade. Leaving Inverness Elementary prepared me for Berry Middle School, or so I thought. I remember the first day like it was yesterday. It was a massive campus and very overwhelming in...

Hf200 Rise of the Internet

...Maithe Penaherrera SHA HF200 “The Rise of the Internet” The last fifteen years have impacted the hospitality industry in various ways and depending on the side of the industry a person is on, it has greatly impacted their wallet as well. From the view of a consumer, knowledge of the industry has widened and the costs associated with partaking in the hospitality industry, i.e. restaurant dining, booking commercial flights, booking hotel accommodations, etc,. has decreased. However, from the perspective of a person employed in the hospitality industry, the costs associated vary depending on the area of hospitality they work in. Mercedes Flores, former travel agent for Costamar Travel from 1994-1999, describes the changes she experienced at Costamar as the world transitioned into the digital era. Once, many customers would come intro travel agencies for any type of travel service, be it one way personal or business trips to month long all-inclusive vacations. But as the internet became a more readily available resource to the average consumer, the number of customers who came in to Costamar for simple one way or two way flights decreased. Customers who did come in for such flights were of more advanced age, generally because they did not know how to use the internet. In 1999, Mercedes left Costmar. In the year 2000, Costamar became one of the first e-business travel agencies. Mercedes says her location was closed a few years afterward. She currently works as a home attendant...

Hospitality Management

...Week 3 Intro to Hospitality Management I read an article on in regard to eating meat “MEAT’S IMPACT” https://www.cspinet.org/nah/pdfs/meatsimpact.pdf And found that the article can potentially impact the restaurant industry if every person that frequents restaurants reads the article, and makes a conscious decision to better their health. The chance of this is likely less than a 2% chance, but if people as a group decide that they wish to benefit from changing their eating habits based on this article then it is likely that there will be a great reduction in the amount of meat that is consumed on a regular basis. The article indicates that there are many adverse effects that occur from the consumption of meat, anywhere from heart attack, cardiovascular disease to stroke, and colon cancer. So in most cases people will initially swear off the meat, but then remember meat is tasty. As with any food that is good to the palette, it is a double edged sword that shows us the product is very desirable, but we just need to remember that moderation is important to maintain a diet that will not end our lives in one way, or another. The article also mention other incentives to reduce the intake of meat such as, the amount of water it takes to produce the product, and the emissions of greenhouse gas caused from the production as well. Now, the last thing people are thinking when they are viewing a menu are things like how much water is required for this...

OBJECTIVE & SCOPE A cruise ship or cruise liner is a passenger ship used for pleasure voyages, where the voyage itself and the ship's amenities are a part of the experience, as well as the different destinations along the way. Transportation is not the prime purpose, as cruise ships operate mostly on routes that return passengers to their originating port, so the ports of call are usually in a specified region of a continent. There are even "cruises to nowhere" or "nowhere voyages" where the ship makes 2-3 day round trips without any ports of call. Together with Norwegian Cruise Line, Star Cruises is the third largest cruise line in the world operating a combined fleet of 18 ships with approximately 35,000 lower berths, with cruises to over 200 destinations...

...Intro to Hospitality Management Ch. 11 & 12 Chapter 11 1. a. Construction on the global level seems to be a trend right now. The report shows the construction pipeline by stages in which the hotels are in development. It also discusses the three-year forecast of the hotel openings. It also discusses the supply trend in a 5 year time frame. Details Construction Pipeline Project and Guest Room Counts for Each of the Three Stages of Construction, Forecasts New Supply Additions for the Next Three Years, Displays Current Census Counts and Provides New Supply Additions for the Previous Two Years (Lodging Econometrics, 2013). 1. b. The one trend that I think is an up and coming major player with hotel competition is the introduction of Airbnb. The innovative way of travel that the company provides is going to give traditional hotel vacations a run for its money. People do not care as much as they used to about hotel brand when they plan their travel. What they care about is a hotel's location, value, and review (Singh, 2013). 2. a. Similarities among the three websites are that all offer a multiple property sites globally. Two of the three offer luxury property sites only while the other site has property sites that meet the needs of the average family traveler. 2. b. Ethical Dilemmas

...Intro Bus Critical thinking exercise 4-2 Ethical Dilemmas 5. You are the vice president of a beer company in a state that sets the legal drinking age at 21. Your boss asks you to organize a lobbying effort to have the drinking age reduced to 18. What would you do? A. I would do research and report my findings to my boss. Although it might seem like a good idea to do so -higher sales, and therefore higher revenue and profit- lowering the drinking age would be a losing battle. States can lower the drinking age back down to 18 or 19 but the amount of federal highway funds they'd lose (about 10%) makes it too expensive for them to do it. Many politicians don't want to risk getting involved. Why change something that appears to be working. Young people might like a beer at 18 but young people don't vote. 77% of Americans are opposed to lowering the drinking age to 18 according to a 2007 Gallop poll. Research shows that the law saves lives. It is one of the most researched public health laws on the books. When the law was raised to 21, alcohol-related deaths for young people decreased; when it was lowered, deaths increased. Scientific research about brain development and function, traffic accident records and population death rates show clearly that 18-21 year-olds handle alcohol poorly. The idea is strongly opposed by social and religious conservatives, parts of hospitality and retail industry concerned about liability, groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving...

Finacial Aid

...C To: Financial Aid Committee Aloha, this letter is regarding the suspension of my financial aid. I am shocked to hear that my financial aid has been put on suspension. The reason it has been put on suspension, was because of the grade I received for my Intro to Communications class I took in spring 2013. After reading this letter of explanation I hope you will reconsider my suspension. I had the opportunity of taking this college class through a high school program I was in called Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. Only a selected few are able to take part in this program. They have to maintain a high GPA, and have a good attendance record. I met all those requirements and was able to take part in this program. Our senior year, this program allowed us to take skip our last period of the day and attend a college class. We were able to gain the college experience and get ahead. So I was taking a college class while still attending high school. I was doing very well in all my classes, I attended my classes everyday met all deadlines. I did really well in class. But towards the middle of the semester my parents had got a disturbing phone call from Sri Lanka. They were told that my grandmother was in the hospital, and that she was very ill. Family in Sri Lanka told us that we should “visit before it’s too late” My grandmother had a stroke several years ago, and lost her speaking ability. So it’s been hard for my parents not being able to see her every day. Listening to...

Father-Son Relationships

...Father-Son Relationship in The Odyssey The Odyssey introduces the theme of father-son relationships to exemplify how influential fathers were at the time. Fathers act as role models to their sons and can determine their actions even if there is a physical and psychological space and difference between them, like Odysseus and Telemachus. The reader is able to gain greater insight into the nature of ancient Greek society by analysing these father-son relationships for their complexities and circumstances of their familial ties. With each father-son relationship shown, Homer offers a unique perspective about the roles that were available to both father and son. Book 1-4 Throughout the Telemachia, we learn that Telemachus has been forced to grow up without the influence of his father and has been directly affected by Odysseus’ absence. When he confides in Athena under the guise of Mentor, he proclaims that he does not have solid proof that he is in fact Odysseus’s son and doubts that he is still alive. However, the dialogue between both Athena and Telemachus initiates Telemachus’ spiritual development. So, when the pre-economy of Odysseus and Telemachus re-uniting is fulfilled – Telemachus will be in the position to assist his father in killing the suitors and to restore the natural order in the Ithacan society. Telemachus first asserts his male privilege by ordering Penelope from the public rooms of the palace, indicating to the suitors of his intention to assert his claim...
