Does Irene Zisblatt play a major role in what we call history? Irene Zisblatt, an innocent thirteen year old at the time who was involved in the terrible things that took place during the Holocaust. For example, Irene was used to be experimented on by Dr. Josef Mengele. She was immediately separated from her family when she was being transported to a death camp located in Auschwitz. However, through hope, faith, and courage, Irene was one of very few people who managed to escape.
When Irene was just nine years old she had discovered that jewish kids were no longer allowed to participate in public schools. After they find this out her mother then began to homeschool her. The nazis had went into Irene’s home and forced them to …show more content…
She was part of what they called the, “death march.” As Irene walked she witnessed many others drop dead in front of her because of how weak they became. Unfortunately, Irene had lost her family of forty people to the gas chambers. As I stated in my introduction, Dr. Josef Mengele ran many tests on Irene. He injected chemicals in her eyes to try and change the color of them. Irene and a few others were put into a dark room for about three to four days to see if their eye color would change. However, when they were taken out of the room three of the five of them were blind.
Irene has had an impact on the world. She didn't lose her faith although she was put through really hard stuff. Her story should never be forgotten because it is inspiring and is definitely part of history. She visits different school and shares her story with people all around the world leaving a big impact on them. It took her fifty years to finally be okay with sharing her story. As a result, Irene even wrote a book called, “The fifth diamond.”
I think we are more likely to be more grateful for what we have, now that some of us know what Irene has been
