Introduction
In order to understand the motivation behind individuals in the workplace, one must understand feeling and emotions. Emotions are defined as intense feelings directed at someone or something (Robbins, pg. 90). Emotions cover a broad range of feelings. Feelings such as elation and happiness are considered positive emotions while feelings of hate and anger are negative emotions. Also, with the discussion of emotions in the workplace, there are felt emotions and displayed emotions. Felt emotions are an individual’s actual feelings whereas displayed emotions are those that are required by the organization for a specific job (Robbins, pg. 102). By understanding emotions, a positive work environment can be developed.
Managing Emotions The workplace offers a bountiful opportunity to experience a wide range of emotions (Muchinsky, 2000). There are several factors that make organizations ineffective at managing emotions. Not having a full understanding of emotions and how they affect the workplace is one factor. Items such as one’s personality, time of day, day of week, stress, amount of sleep, age and sex can affect one’s emotions. For example, if a manager knew that levels of positive affect peak during the times of 10:00 am – noon, he or she might be more inclined to discuss job performance at that time (Robbins, pg. 96). Also, by having a better understanding of your employees, a manager would be better informed about managing emotions. By understanding an

...same situation due to cultural background (Robbin 2013). As a result, organizations face difficulties when they are handling with their employee’s emotions. In addition, sometimes leaders of the organizations cannot control their own emotions as well, since everyone has his/her difficulties and bad mood in sometimes. On the other hand, emotions are considered disruptive which they felt interfered with employees’ ability to work in organizations. Employees are not allowed to express frustration within the workplace, but they didn’t realize that emotions are a part of daily life. 2. Do you think the strategic use and display of emotions serve to protect employees, or does covering your true emotions at work lead to more problems than it solves? In my opinion, covering your true emotions at work lead to more problems that it solves that will not solve your problem in a long term and it will make thing worse. Although, it make people feel less trustful and disrespectful on his/her works. Therefore, you should perform a professional manner when you are at work to make yourself more confortable and easier to communicate and focus on your job. Also, managers should keep strong connections with workforce and communicate with employees, making sure they feel comfortable to talk to their managers anything on their mind. On the other hand, when leaders themselves are in good moods, group member are more positive, as a result, they cooperate...

...her. She was about to speak when her teacher interrupted her saying let’s take picture first with your work. She was nervous because she is in front, 28 pair of eyes was looking at her but she smiled. Feeling like a pageant winner that she wished to be. But someone shouted saying “tinatago ang taba” at first it was okay for her because she was used to it; very used to it that calling her mataba, fat, baboy and all those names never bothered her. She built thick and long walls around her, shielding her from this “fat-shaming” but today was different. She’s in front of 28 people laughing and mocking her; 28 people who she thought her own friends. She saw her friend, the blond girl, laughing her ass off. She started questioning herself, what did I do to her to receive this kind of mockery? I am one of the people who listened to her dramas in life, who lend her shoulder to cry on; the only person who never judged her even when people found out that she had sex with her on-and-off boyfriend. She also saw her best friends jeering. And at that exact moment, she realized she never had a real friend because no one stood up for her. It took an hour for people to notice her teary-eyes and contorted face. But she tried her best not to cry in front of this fucking people who never know the feeling of being downtrodden. She swallowed the big lump on her throat and tried to explain her work without looking at them. She went back to her seat and tried to blink the tears away but she failed. She...

Lab Rat Research Paper

...supposed to last up to five years, which seemed great! But it did not last nearly five years. The IUD fell out a few months after, hopeful, the doctors tried it once again, and once again, it fell out. Both those times I had to go into the surgical Pavilion. I was scared equally those two times because of the anesthesia. The last time they gave up on it. Once again, I was their lab rat. They tried the normal birth control pills on a normal dosage. It did not work. They raised the dosage to two times a day. It did not work. I feared them raising my dosage to three a day because birth control pills are very expensive when you do not have Medicare or Medicaid. Thankfully they didn’t. They left the dosage at two a day, but decided to include the Depo-Provera, a shot which is given every three months. To this day this hasn’t failed me at all. I go every three months for my shot, and take my pills every day. I finally stopped being their lab rat. My mom has told me the story of her making her way to the hospital just as she got out of work on the day of my last...

Foster: A Fictional Narrative

...“Hey Kyoko, how are your parents doing? I heard they got a big break at the office, is it going well?” Foster inquires. “I don’t know, they don’t talk to me very much about that stuff. All I know is that they have a new major client that could really put the company in motion.” I sigh and kick a pebble as we continue to walk home. “I wish they talked to me about that stuff. I wish that they just talked to me in general. I rarely speak with them despite my best efforts. Why are they being like this? Huhh...” Foster puts an arm around me and gives me a light squeeze. “It’ll be fine, everything will work itself out, okay?” “Ya, okay.” he gives me another light squeeze. “How’s your dad holding up?” Foster takes his arm off me and adjusts both...

Resolution Paper

...2012 Trisha McAloon Refining Solutions Paper The original issue that I have been dealing with is that my 6 year old daughter is in the first grade and begins to cry when I drop her off at school. My initial solution was to sit with my daughter through her breakfast and leave when I was able to drop her off with her teacher. After working through this solution several times, I realized that it was not only still an issue it was becoming a bigger issue. So I would have to change up my solution and find something that worked better. The issue: How should I handle a crying child at school? Solutions: 1.Stay with her until she finishes breakfast and leave her with her teacher. 2. Stay with her until she finishes breakfast and leaver her in the breakfast area with her friends. 3. Walk her to the door in the morning and say goodbye and leave whether she is crying or not. My daughter Laney began her school year with a huge smile on her face and enjoyed each day, shortly after the school year started she began crying when she was dropped off at school. Feeling that there was something more going on I was determined to find out what was causing this issue for my child. I determined that this was an issue because she enjoys school and talked of her teacher and friends fondly so I had to wonder what would cause her to cry. I observed her with her teacher and determined that she is possible a little rougher that her previous year and Laney may just not be adjusting as well this year...

Raymond's Run Squeaky Analysis

...“Raymond’s Run,” is about a girl named Squeaky who protects her brother, Raymond. “Everything Will Be Okay” is about a boy named James who wants to make him family proud but thinks very differently from them. In the stories “Everything will be okay” and “Raymond’s Run” the authors teach is that it is okay to be your own person. In “Raymond’s Run,” Squeaky is very protective of her brother, Raymond. Because of this it is hard for Raymond to be his own person. Squeaky keeps him on the inside of the road so he doesn't run off. He has to stay by Squeaky’s side every minute of the day. She doesn't even let him talk to other people because she is afraid that Raymond will get hurt. For example, when Mary asked, “what grade are you in now Raymond.” Squeaky didn’t even let him defend himself, when she yelled “You got anything to say to my brother, you say it to me, Mary Louise Williams of raggedy town Baltimore.” This shows that Raymond can’t even stand up for himself, without Squeaky jumping in. If Squeaky won’t even let Raymond talk to other people then Raymond can’t become his own person. By the end of the story Squeaky gives him a...

...the basement steps. Once I saw my beautiful, old, black cat, I noticed that he almost looked like a new born baby and my mom a new mother. He was delicately cradled in my mom’s arms like he might snap in half any second. Alec was also spoken to softly, like his ears were too sensitive for a normal voice. My mom had a bright red face, glossy eyes, and quivering lips. “It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re safe now. Shh. It’s okay, Alec. I love you very much. It’s okay. You are such a good kitty, Alec. It’s okay. Shh,” my mom whispered while rocking the cat. Once my mom could no longer bear the pain of holding her cat that had just fallen down the stairs, she placed him gently placed him down by the wall that holds our coats. Alec shakily picked up his front paw and moved it. Then when he regained all of his balance, Alec started walking. After no more than three strides, Alec went head first into the wall. My mom could no longer keep all of her emotions in. She started crying right there, covering her mouth with her right hand. My face got hot, and I tasted the salty tears once they touched my lips. I had started to cry, too. I crept down the chair, almost sliding down the side, until my butt hit the linoleum floor. I gently, but shakily, reached my arm out. When I had touched Alec’s soft fur, I expected him to turn around and demand pets. What did happen was that he jumped in the air as if spooked and landed facing me. Then I saw it. Alec’s bright, beautiful, green eyes lost most of its...

My Life to Save

...Prologue I leaned over the toilet for the fourth time this morning spilling whatever was left in my stomach. I dry heaved for the next five minutes trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. "Jasone what is you doing in your sister room and screaming on-" she couldn’t continue her sentence as she...

...I actually do not think I have had any more fun than I did that day. I cherish the moments that I have with them. They are my home away from home, always full of fun and laughter, and there is always something new around the corner to look forward to. Do not get me wrong. They are like every other ordinary family, getting into arguments and not every day being filled with sunshine and rainbows. Yet, that is okay. That allows other lessons to be learned. One that just dawned on me, while I was writing this paper, is how much they care for others. Before I met them I did not really care about total strangers. I would check to see if they were okay if someone had gotten hurt but beyond that I never really thought anything about strangers. Then I met Tarissa’s family, and it totally changed the way I...
