...UNESCO Paper BIO/100 The Tropical rainforest Heritage of Sumatra is made up of three national parks: Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. This protected area is home to estimate 10,000 plant species, including 17 endemic genera; more than 200 mammal species; and some 580 bird species of which 465 are resident and 21 are endemic. (UNESCO World Heritage Centre) One example of an endangered animal would be the Clouded Leopard. The Clouded Leopard is also found in China, Nepal, and Thailand, but in those countries they are in no danger of becoming extinct like they are in the Sumatra. The Green Turtle is another animal in the Sumatra that has been put on the Red List. Although there have been other records in Austrilia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Costa Rica, Honduras, and the Philippines of Green Turtles all doing well, except in Honduras where they are also Red Listed. There are several species that can be found in other regions that are thriving, but there are still many species that show no other records and are in trouble in the Sumatra. Examples like the Mainland Serow, Sumatrain Tigar, and the Hoogerwerf’s Rat are all species that are in danger. In recent news there have been stories of Sumatran Tigers being caught in snares that are set up by either poachers or in an attempt to eliminate predators that may prey on livestock. One animal that was caught last...

My personal practicum experience took place at St Elizabeth’s Hospital, which is a small 90 bed community hospital located in Gonzales, La. St Elizabeth’s Hospital is a part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System which was organized in 1984 to unite with three existing hospitals in Louisiana which were already a part of the system extending the healthcare of Jesus Christ to those most in need. The facility serves the people of Ascension Parish and surrounding areas (St Elizabeth, 2010). St Elizabeth’s Hospital has hundreds of outpatient and inpatient services that include: Cancer Center, Cardiopulmonary, Laboratory, MRI Center, Telemetry, Intensive Care, Weight Loss Surgery, Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Emergency Department, After Hours, Community Clinic and Physician Tower. In this document you will obtain a brief explanation of nuclear waste, plastic, coal and oil. What are the alternatives of other energy resources, advantages and disadvantages that would contribute to stabilize the environment currently around the the surrounding areas. Effects: Plastic is one of the most used resources that society has; the most common are plastic bags and beverage bottles. Plastic though durable is very slow to degrade. Plastic is sourced from two major categories, thermoset and thermoplastics; thermoset means that the plastic solidifies when it’s heated. Thermoset plastics are most commonly used in cars and construction; soften when heated however they resume their original composition when at room temperature. Some common thermoplastic products include milk jugs, credit cards and carpet fibers. Plastic makes up 13% of solid waste in our water system ; shockingly 8% of plastic is recycled. Plastic in our soil can block the flow of water through the soil as well as hinder the growth production. Plastic covers about 40% of our world’s ocean surfaces. The greatest affect of all is the effect on...

...I love every subject in health 100 class but my favorite subject was exercises, because I play soccer and I know how important is to exercise. Exercise make me feel good and other Being physically active can help me 1) Increase my chances of living longer 2) Feel better about myself 3) Decrease your chances of becoming depressed 4) Sleep well at night 5) Move around more easily 6) Have stronger muscles and bones 7) Stay at or get to a healthy weight 8) Be with friends or meet new people 9) Enjoy myself and have fun Exercise has always been a necessary evil for me. Actually, for a while it felt like an unnecessary evil, one to be avoided at all costs: I perfected the list of excuses that would get me out of gym class the habit has just never stuck—I’d fall off the exercise wagon for weeks, even months, at a time, citing work, travel, illness, or any other excuse I could think of. Fitness, not weight, is what is really important in health. And that's good news because most people have more control over exercise than they do over their weight, which has strong genetic component. Exercise is one of those rare things where the hype actually meets reality. Next to not smoking, getting regular physical activity is arguably the best thing you can do for your health. Any amount of exercise is better than none. The more you get, though, the better. And remember: Cutting back on television-watching and other sedentary pastimes is just as important......

...Complexities of the U.S. Financial System Joshua Curtiss Strayer University Professor Haroon Rasheed Baqai Finance 100 24 July 2013 * Describe how the U.S. financial markets impact the economy, businesses, and individuals. The U.S financial markets impact the economy, businesses, and individuals by, helping to skillfully direct the flow of savings and investment throughout the economy in ways that facilitate the increase of capital and the production of goods and services. The worth of credit and returns on investment provide helpful signs to producers and consumers. These signs help direct funds from savers and businesses to the consumers, businesses, governments, and other type of investor. Also, the existence of healthy financial markets and institutions also accelerates the international flow of funds between countries, helping the local economy. In addition, efficient financial markets and institutions tend to lower search and transactions costs in the economy, with potential savings of millions per year. By providing a large range of financial products, with fluctuating risk and pricing structures as well as maturity a well-built financial system offers products to participants that provide borrowers and lenders with a close match for their needs. Whereas some argue moral universalism is preferable to the other two approaches, it can be insensitive to the needs and values of the host country. Ethical relativism, on the other hand can result in conflicts between home and host country values. 3. Discuss the process for firms to combat corruption and minimise the risk of prosecution. Having a global compliance system which shows that employees have understood, and signed off on, the legal obligations regarding bribery and corruption in the countries where they do business Making employees aware of the penalties and ramifications for lone actions, such as criminal sanctions Having a system in place to investigate any foreign agents and overseas partners who will be negotiating contracts [Nike case] Keeping an effective whistle-blowing system in place [The Insider] 4. Discuss some common criticism of multinational subsidiary activities. MNCs locally raise their needed capital, contributing to a rise in interest rates in host countries. The majority (sometimes even 100 percent) of the stock of most subsidiaries is owned by the parent company. Consequently, host-country people do not have much control over the operations of corporations within their borders. MNCs usually reserve the key managerial and technical positions for...

As a parent I do not regard 3 points in 3 subjects as a good pass! Therefore some form of weighting is necessary. Surely a school with a 99% pass rate but with 50% learners with 15 points is better than a school with a 100% pass rate but with only 5% with 15 points or better. Please seek the help of statiscians to come up with a more acceptabe ranking method. Otherwise what you are doing in publishing these results is commendable. As parents and learners we do not mind getting more details in these pass rates eg who are the best 100 students. you can maintain a website for this kind of information and I can assure you the traffic will make you smile....

...Psychology 100 Abstract Mittal, C., & Griskevicius, V. (2012, August 18). Sense of Control under Uncertainty Depends on People’s Childhood Environment INTRODUCTION According to new research, there are reports that growing up poor can “influence people’s sense of control and in turn may lead them to more impulsive decision-making and quickly giving up on challenging tasks in uncertain situations” (p.6). It is stated that two people with very different backgrounds tend to respond differently to uncertainty, even while having similar socioeconomic status (total measure of a person’s work experience). Therefore the purpose of this research is to determine if there are any correlation with growing up poor with impulsive decision making and giving up on challenging tasks. METHOD Participants Researchers choose to test the hypothesis in many different groups ranging from a sample size of 75 university students and 195 individuals for a total of 270 participants. The university student’s average age was 20 years old whereas the individual’s average age range was 33 years old. Out of the 270 participants, 53% were male and 47% female. Procedure Experiments was done by showing the participant photos depicting economic hardship, such as unemployment lines, home foreclosure signs and empty office buildings. To determine the participants’ sense of control, researchers asked how much they agreed with statements such as, “I can do just about anything that I really set my...

...Sampson D ENG 100 17 OCTOBER 2015 The Dangers of Text Messaging Vastly Overstated Most arguments state that text messaging is evil and will destroy language over time because most people use abbreviated words when texting. David Crystal, a professor at the University of Wales in his article “2b or Not 2b” argued that the dangers of text messaging has been vastly exaggerated. He also believed that text messaging should be seen as something good, a new dimension to language instead of viewing it as detrimental to language. These are some of the arguments he made in favor of text messaging, how the dangers of this phenomenon has been enormously exaggerated and how he organized and supported his arguments, that effects of text messaging on language is insignificant. The dangers of text messaging has been vastly overstated according to Crystal. Some people believe that text messaging is something that will cause language to decline due to abbreviated forms in it. John Humphrys argued that texters are “vandals who are doing to our language what Genghis Khan did to his neighbors 800 years ago” (qtd. in Crystal 335). To Humphrys, “texting is destroying our language: pillaging our punctuation; savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary and must be stopped” (qtd. in Crystal 335). Also, John Sutherland of University College London wrote in his paper in 2002 that text messaging is “bleak, bald, sad shorthand. It also masks dyslexia, poor spelling and mental laziness. To...

...Elizabeth Ruiz October 3, 2015 Art/100 If you were to have a work of art created to express your experiences as a student, what would it be? What would it look like? How would it communicate your experience in terms of its composition? Rather than getting right into it I would take the time to study the world around me for more information. This would have helped me cleared my idea of what I really want to express and compose during my experience. If there’s one thing I have learned is to be individual inventiveness, have self-expression, and creativity are qualities I have valued most. We have many great ideas that come up on our own, we don’t have the need to copy!  We dream, work, play, go to school where we can look for our images, not to our neighbor’s paper, or to copy a picture in a book! In the past two-hundred years so much has changed the physical face of our country, our lifestyles, the peoples of America. What has endured is our high regard for individual freedoms, one being freedom of expression. Learning to express yourself with some degree of clarity be it in writing, music, dance, or the plastic art forms is a difficult task requiring: That you have something you want to express, and that you have the skills to express it with. It would probably be a city that represents perceptual skills an awareness of the world around us, and the world of their imagination. I would make sure it described the knowledge of and appreciation of Art/Beauty in the......

...[MY EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION EXPERIENCE IN THE WORKPLACE] [LATOYA REDD] STRAYER UNIVERSITY BUSINESS 100 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS PROFESSOR EDDIE ALFORD FEBRUARY 11, 2016 Abstract [The paper is about effective communication in the workplace. Communication is essential to workplace. Many employers train their employees on communication skills. It can be your friend or your worst enemy. Needless to say it will improve your overall workplace culture. Communication problems are going to come up and business and employees must understand how to handle these problems.] On a hot beautiful summer day in my room, as I prepare myself for work, I start thinking to myself. I realized that Im about to start a new job, and in reality that means I have to communicate with new people. All kinds of thoughts are going through my head. Are these co-workers going to be nice or co-workers from hell. Being that I am not unfamiliar with how to handle this issue, I think to myself “ you are well prepared for this and your communication skills are over the chart of excellent”. However, to overcome effective communication in the workplace comes with how you present yourself, how well you listen, and how you handle the outcome. First of all, I would like to say I feel that I communicate very well with people at my workplace. I currently work for a production company, so we work as a team. So when working as a team I present myself to my co-workers as an outgoing, easy going and easy to...

...Question 1: If the game was played just once the scenario for suppliers would be very similar to the prisoner’s dilemma case we discussed in game theory. Here both buyer and suppliers have dominant strategy. It would have been beneficial for both of suppliers if they could coordinate but as in this case they can’t, safest way is to bid at lowest cost. From buyer’s perspective, he will make maximum profit if he goes with lowest bid so that even in case of crisis, if supplier decides not to fix, buyer would have enough scope to cover the fixing cost. So, there is very less probability that Buyer will award contract to higher bid and any of supplier will bear the fixing cost. Decision tree & Payoff matrix: supplier A Supplier B $11 $14 $11 Allocations 50 100 Allocations 50 0 0 50 $14 100 50 Buyer Crisis Fixed A Yes $11 Yes No Buyer No Yes $14 Yes NO B No In the above case buyer would...
