The National Ignition Facility (NIF) won the Project Management Institute’s Project of the Year Award in 2010. The NIF is the first to use laser expected to use fusion ignition in a laboratory. The NIF is in a big facility, in a ten story building located in California. There is enough space for all there workers and research materials to achieve there goal. They received this award because they were recognized for there project team, for there performance, and for the execution of there project management.
This company has a goal has a purpose, which is to obtain nuclear fusion in a laboratory setting. Fusion is a renewable energy source. The NIF will be used to assure the safety and security of weapons that are nuclear. They will provide a way to carbon free and a limitless source of energy. They will make astrophysics larger, material science, and basic science. “The team at NIF had a deadline for the construction so all the equipment could be in and completed” said Dr. Edward Moses, Principal Associate Director for the NIF and Photon Science Directorate. They made sure they had everything in place so they could be organize and everybody that help fit right in.
The project had resources which was from people who was working like the scientist, the engineers, the vendors, suppliers, technicians, and support personnel. Other resources they had was the machinery. That consisted of 192 lasers which can give of 50 more times the energy than any other laser. They wanted to develop fusion which is clean energy and is unlimited energy. They have more than 3,000 pieces of amplifier glass, 8,000 large optics and 30,000 small optics that have been broken down into 6,206 replicable units.
The NIF is funded by the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration, and by other parties. In the past couple of years they had talks about there fundings with the senate. They use other facilities to do test to see how this would work and they seen it progress fast so they funded them, but the scientist had some technical challenges, and it was coming close to the physical year. Later in the committee report is the following explanatory language regarding Limitation on Availability of Funds for Inertial Confinement Fusion Ignition and High Yield Campaign “This section would limit the obligation and expenditure of funds for fusion ignition research and experiments to not more than 50 percent until the Administrator for Nuclear Security certifies to the congressional defense committees that fusion ignition has been achieved at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) or the Administrator submits a report on fusion ignition” (Richard M. Jones)
The role of the team is to provide an understanding of the complex physics of nuclear weapons. Researchers can also explore basic science, such as astrophysical phenomena, materials science, and nuclear science. NIF’s other major mission is to provide scientist with the physics understanding necessary to create fusion ignition and energy gain for future energy. The organizational setting you have the Principal Associate Director, then you have the Chief Technologist, Program Director, Chief Scientist, Principal Deputy, Deputy Principal, Program Director for Photon Science and Applications, basically all your head people then you have your workers/students.
The obstacles that are still ahead are several technical issues should be responded to with NIF construction. While none is really serious to constitute a break down but attention to all of them will help the NIF's come to a success. Consistent physical understanding of NIF relevant phenomena should continue to better understand the effects of hohlraum wall motion and the physics of plasma instabilities. They need to control the optics damage thresholds and cost estimate contains funds to purchase slow growth KDP crystals if necessary, the effect on schedules must be considered if the fast-growth crystals fail to meet damage threshold requirements. The cost of the project was 2 million under the 3,502 million dollar budget and was done almost a month ahead of time.
The NIF accomplish a lot of goals and was very efficient on resources, using there sponsors effectively meeting deadlines. There goals and purpose of this company are very strong. there is a good reason people in the United states need a company like this to save energy and to create a new type of energy and protect us from nuclear weapons. They are expanding astrophysics and this company constructed the new Cowboys stadium. That is why the National Ignition Facility won the PMI Project of the Year Award.

...CHAPTER 4 ASSIGNMENT #1 TASK #1 a. Any business knows that marketing expenditures are hard to justify. The most cost-effective marketing is an idea that can be spread by word-of-mouth. The benefit of this type of campaign is that when done right, it can engage Facebook friends, Twitter followers, local press, and national media. The best ideas for this marketing campaign are not expensive. We will try to advertise our product using the most cost efficient modes like local media and brochure printings. We can hire people to distribute brochures which shows our product line and making monthly promotion is such a good idea also. b. More people can learn about the new technology in gardening equipments. They will be ware that our company is existing, our main market target are the common people living in rural areas. We will spend less on marketing ideas but this small markets will be huge when combined. TASK # 2 1. “WHAT WILL BE THE EFFECT OF THIS PROGRAM TO OUR SALES?” SALES WILL RELATIVELY MOVE UP AS MONTHS GOES BY. WE WILL SLOWLY CONTROL THE RURAL AREA SALES AFTER SOME TIME. 2. “WHAT WILL BE THE COST?” COST WILL BE RELATIVELY LOW AS WE ARE TARGETING THE RURAL AREAS AND WILL REQUIRE LESSER EXPENSES FOR US. 3. “WHY WE CONCENTRATE ON RURAL AREAS?” BEAR IN MIND THAT OUR PRODUCTS BASICALLY ARE GARDENERS EQUIPMENT. AND RURAL AREAS PEOPLE NORMALLY HAVE THEIR OWN BACKYARD WHICH WILL REQUIRE USE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF GARDENING EQUIPMENT. 4. “USING LESSER COST...

Assignment # 1

...Assignment #1 Part A: 1. What are the major differences between pure play e-commerce and bricks-and-clicks operations? What are the benefits and limitations of each? A pure play operation is only online, and there is no physical interaction between the company and the customer. This could be considered a limitation as some consumers rely on physical interaction. A benefit for a pure play operation is that there is online deals, and a large market structure that could provide more consumers if advertised correctly. A bricks-and-clicks operation has both a physical store and sells products or services online. This is a benefit as those customers who buy in the physical store will already know the brand names. There is already an established distribution channel, as well as established customers. A limitation would be that some customers aren't used to buying online or the legacy systems. 2. One of the key motivations for developing an e-commerce site is immediate access to a much larger market. Explain why an increased market reach may have benefits, and describe its limitations. An online market would increase potential sales by advertising to more customers which they might not have reach possibly in a physical store. Limitations would consist of connection problems for customers and perhaps even to the provider's service. Also there could possibly be fraud issues with potential hackers. Another limitation co-insides to the benefit of reaching a new marketing geographic...

...Assignment 1 Assignment 1 HRM530 Date: April 22, 2012 1. Describe your approach to this new client in terms of relying upon knowledge you have gained working with other similar situations. South Korean business would be the choice of a new client. In order to effectively adhere to their needs the choice of approach would be the regiocentric staffing approach. This approach will allow us to have an understanding of HRM policies that are given across all the subsidiaries. “This approach considers the needs of the entire region and managers from the host country are often selected for managerial positions in their own country and some may be promoted to regional positions” (McGraw-Hill, 2011). This lets our client know that we are all about finding the best person for the job. This is somewhat the same of what is done in the military in South Korea. The SOFA agreement prevents the United States Government from hiring mostly Americans for the jobs. The agreement is that the Korean Nationals are to hold at least 75% of the jobs on base. That has proven to be true. Every store and restaurant on every base in South Korea is operated by Koreans. It is not easy for any American to get a simple part time job. This is why regiocentic staffing would prove to work effectively. That way jobs are filled based on their nationality in order to keep the confidence of having a new client relationship with the United States. 2. Identify the areas of overlap in the new client organization with...

They wonder if it is because of the caffeine that is inside of the coffee that is responsible for this. Step 2: Propose a hypothesis to explain observation. The researcher hypothesizes that the caffeine inside of coffee reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes. Step 3: Test the hypothesis with further observations or experiments. The researcher sets up an experiment in the lab with two groups of mice (one of 11 and the other of 10). The group of 11 mice are given water and the other group of 10 mice are given diluted black coffee. The experiment is conducted over a five week period. The diets and living conditions are the same for both groups of mice. Blood glucose was monitored and logged each week for all mice. Step 4: Analyze data. After five weeks of the experiment, the researcher realized that there was no significant change in body weight for the mice in each group. The mice that drank water had a significant increase in blood glucose concentrations compared to the mice that drank diluted coffee. The mice that drank the diluted coffee had a 30 percent decrease in blood glucose concentrations compared to the mice that drank water. Step 5: State conclusions about hypothesis based on data analysis. The researcher concludes that the test subjects...
