The Notion of Civics The subject field of civics originates from the nature of human being itself i.e. from the natural behavior and level of interaction of human beings it self. One basic nature of human beings related with this statement is the fact that “man is a social animal” whose life is closely related to each other. Almost all instincts, demands and progresses of human beings are fulfilled in society. The superiority that human beings try to achieve over nature and other living things is the result of the social bond among human beings. If such bond is a requirement for the survival of human beings, then what should be the pattern of social interaction that exist among human beings is closely related with the subject matter of civics. In this regard civics is considered as a subject field which is mainly concerned with teaching citizens as to how they can live harmonious and peaceful life with other citizens and as to how they can resolve conflicts peacefully among them selves. The other basic nature of human being is the political view of philosophy by Plato that, “Man is a political animal”, which means no human being can escape from the deeds of politics and its dayto-day life is either directly or indirectly affected by it. For this reason human beings have to know the workings of politics, institutions that affect their day to day life, norms, principles and laws which are set in motion by politicians to govern their societies and above all the duties and rights that they have in the political community in which they are leading their life. So, civics tries to make them familiar with such and other concepts that make them active and awarded citizens. Civics as a branch of social science deals with the right and responsibilities of...

To What Extent Do National Income Statistics (Gdp) Provide a Good Basis for Comparison Between Countries?

...Economics Essay – To what extent do national income statistics (GDP) provide a good basis for comparison between countries? In the world of Economics, GDP per capita is used to compare the way that countries are coping with different economic climates; such as recession, boom etc. This essay will be assessing whether GDP is the best statistic to use for comparing different countries’ economies. GDP is the most commonly used method by world famous economists to assess how successful an economy is. GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product and is the market value of the official goods that have been transferred in and out in a country over a certain period of time. GDP is a good method for comparing the national incomes of countries because it can be very accurate. This is especially the case when the GDP for a division is divided between the population of a country. This is a statistic called GDP per capita and is a lot more accurate at showing how wealthy a country is because it divides the value of the goods transferred in a country between the whole population. This is clearly a better way of measuring how wealthy a country is because it explains how rich each person is in a country. This is a better way of comparison between countries because it shows how rich the country is in terms of value per person instead of making assumptions. This makes a huge difference because in normal GDP, China is the richest country in the world because it is worth the most as a country;......

Game Design and Game Management Research Paper on their addiction. Although if that was the only reason to do this job then I suggest changing your attitude on life. A gaming manager makes sure that all of the games in a casino are going well and that no one is cheating by counting cards and/or stealing from the casino. For me, Game Design and Gaming Management are two extremely interesting careers. To become a successful game designer, one should have many talents and specialties within the field. A good personality trait that one should possess is creativity, being open to suggestions, and being able to put what comes to mind down onto a piece of paper. One must be collaborative as well as having a huge passion for games. To be successful, a good education is required. Very few game designers only have a high school diploma. Even very few have an Associate’s Degree in this occupation. A good suggestion is for one to get a Bachelor’s Degree right away. Having a Bachelor’s Degree is where most of the jobs are at. If I were to take a good look at some colleges, I recommend looking into UW-Stout or Herzing University. They are two good choices for colleges to go to, but there are many other good colleges out there, such as Devry University as well as CVTC (Chippewa Valley Technical College). With a very good education and...

Price Elasticity

.../ QDemand(OLD) To calculate the % change in price, we use the formula: Price(NEW) - Price(OLD) / Price(OLD) Elastic goods are sensitive to prices because an increase in price will have a greater influence on demand for that good. Inelastic goods are goods that not very price sensitive and price changes have little influence on their demand. Examples of ineleastic goods are bread, milk, and fuel. These are considered necessities of life and consumer will still buy them regardless of price fluctuations. The higher the price elasticity, the more sensitive consumers are to price changes. A good with a high price elasticity would suggest that when the price of that good goes up, consumers will buy a lot less of it which increases the supply, and when the price of that same good goes down, consumers will buy a lot more of it and decrease the supply. A good with a low price elasticity would mean just the opposite, that changes in price will have little influence on demand. Example 1. The price of a laptop increases by 20% and there is a 40% drop in the quantity demanded. We can use the above formula and get (-40%) / (20%) = -2. In price elasticity the negative sign is ignored when analyzing it, so price elasticity will always remain a positive value. Since the price elasticity is 2, the good becomes elastic, meaning that the good is very sensitive to price...

Hahah Lol to each other throughout the job, the Army communicate through various ways such as hand signals, radio etc... If the Army did not communicate within the job they would not perform the job well; no one would know exactly what they were doing therefore the job would more than likely become very confusing. For example, if there was a conflict that begun and not one of the work colleagues communicated no one would know what job/position they are meant to be taking, therefore the job would become a shamble and would not be completed correctly, this is why communication is very important in the Army. In the Police communication is also vital as they need to know what is expected from them, if Police did not communicate then crimes that were committed would not be solved, therefore it would make the Police force looked very unsuccessful. For example, if Police received a phone call from a distressed person because their house had been burgled and police officers did not radio through, then the crime would not be solved, this is why communication is very important in the Police force. Communication has good and bad points, some good points are: Being able to communicate over a large distance, this is vital in the Army and Police as both forces work in a very large distance of one another. Body language, if there was an argument taking place and the police turned up all aggressive towards the people involved, then the people will not calm down causing the argument not to......

...07/08/2013 Executive Summary I was very pleased for the most part with the tests and assessments I found them very interesting since I started finding out things about myself that I did not know and also verified some of my strengths by doing all the assessments. I found out what my biggest strengths are, I also found out that things I thought I was very good at, it turns out I have a lot of room for improvement; for example, the active listening skills test I though I was an extremely good listener and it turns out I am not very good. I am happy to have figured this out that way I can work on improving my listening skills. I also liked the personality test a lot because it showed me what type of person I am. I did this test very carefully to get the most accurate results possible and I found out that things that are shocking to me; for example, I am a ISFP type of person this means that I am very interested in fine arts and that I enjoy and like expressions primarily through art. I would have never imagined this. The strength finder test is a test that I personally had a bit of hard time doing since sometimes I found myself very inclined to answer both choices. This test also surprised me in a good way learning that my top five themes are: analytical, belief, individualization, achiever, and competition. I knew I had some of these talents however, I did not know I had them so developed. Lastly the competencies assignment was the one I enjoyed the most since I could......

...the spoken ‘review’ is very spontaneous as both people look to compliment what the other says with agreement and they both use phatic talk and hedging to vaguely outline to each other why the think the film was good, “very good film actually” “yeah. He’s very good”. In comparison, the written film review is obviously planned as it is checked before publishing and it uses sophisticated language to depict what happens in the film and how it is presented, “After that, it gets sluggish and the visuals-as so often happens in 3-D films-are far too dingy”. This analysis of the film creates a sense of professionalism as it not only criticises the film but the way it is presented also, showing the reviewer has taken into account more than one aspect of the overall presentation of the movie. The audience for the spoken conversation will be aimed at a younger teenage audience as there are lots of pauses and very little informational dialect involved, “yeah (.) He’s very good (.)”, this means it is easy to understand and interpret. The written review on the other hand, is aimed at more intelligent/developed people and goes into detail to give the reader a detailed analogy of the film and its presentation, “Tron would like to evoke the future”. In the spoken review, there are three voices which are very much passive in agreeing with each other and include no opposing points, “brilliant…he’s very good I like him…yeah he’s very good”, this makes the conversation very uninteresting because......

Elasticity of Wants a way to measure how the change in one thing (price) causes change in another (demand). Understanding elasticity of demand is valuable in knowing the dynamic response of supply and demand in a market. Such understanding will enable an enterprising person (businessman and/or consumer) to achieve a favorable effect (higher revenue/best value of one’s money) or avoid unintended outcome. For instance, a company (manufacturing commodities like shampoo or toothpaste) considering a price increase might find that by doing so, it lowers profits if demand is highly elastic, as sales would fall sharply. Similarly, a company considering a price cut might find that it does not increase sales, if demand for the product is price inelastic. It is therefore imperative to correctly analyze data on the elasticity of the company’s products in the market before deciding whether to increase or decrease its price viz-a-vis its total revenue and quantity of demand of such products. Alfred Marshall in his 1890 book Principles of Economics, particularly in his discussion on elasticity of wants tried to explain and illustrate the relationship of price and demand and its overarching influence of one over the other and vice versa. His analysis underscored the relationship of price and demand; he demonstrated how an increase or decrease in price affects the decrease and decrease of demand of a particular good. Although on a personal level I found the products/goods he used in his illustrations quite......

How to Write a Teaching Case

...teaching cases. In a meeting in Stockholm recently, I was asked to explain what it takes to write a teaching case. I gave my opinion, we had a very interesting discussion. Here is my (very rough and off the cuff) opinion about what it takes (in reality, how a teaching case differs from a research case). Why are you writing this case? Cases are written for a teaching purpose – and to write a teaching case, you need to have a teaching objective in mind. It is not enough to have an interesting company. Even the best company story needs to have a pedagogical point, a theory or dilemma to illustrate. So don’t write a teaching case just because you happen to know someone in a really interesting company – it does need to be a good story, but it also need to have a purpose. The standard outline Cases – particularly the standard HBS case – follow an outline that can seem rather trite, but which is very effective. It is something like this: 0.5 page: Intro: The protagonist is introduced, typically pondering a question of some importance. The idea is to tell the students from which perspective the case is written, to set the scene – and that is all there is to it. 1 – 1.5 pages: Description of the company – not the whole history, but the relevant details, explaining what the company is doing, how they make their money. Most companies are to a very large degree formed by their history, so the relevant parts need to be told. 1 page: Industry. Companies exist within a context,......
