It is often not a good thing to move to a new town or country because they lose old friends.

Just as flowers need nutrition, so do people need friends. Some people seem to prefer to stay in the same place for their whole life since they feel safer and happier with their old friends; while others are more prone to move to a new town or country to make a change. However, I disagree with the statement and think people will still keep their old friends even they move to other places, for high technology, friendship recognition.

First of all, there are no inventions have received more praise than internet and cell phones, which are well-developed for people to communicate with their friends by the communicating materials. Skype, which is a tool used to keep in touch with others, is often cited as an example. In my case, it is Skype that I often talk to my friends in different countries. Cell phones are, also, the most common and convenient implements to contact with each other. Take Judy, my sister, for example. After graduating from the senior high school, she goes to another city for attending college, she still chats with her best friend by texting messages and phone calling.

Second, I believe that real friendship is a long-term, deeply bound with each other. That is, companionship can last for a long time; it will not end up easily for the distance. Besides, as an old saying goes, “aAbsence makes the heart grow fonder.”Excellent!! Sometimes, folks apart from their friends make them realize how significant their friends are, so they will much treasure their fellowship. Take my personal example. After coming back from Montana, a place where I stay for one year, I still get quite along with my friends, even better than before since we miss each other and having a lot of stories to share during a year to share with.(If you have long sentence, try to delete “and “ make it better structure. )

With certain, remaining in theneighboring locality also has its merits to some extent, such as having fun with their old friends all the time and no need to worry about losing old friends because of the distance, which, undoubtedly, may make them feel comfortable for being no changes. People seem like the feeling of being around for relationship. However, a true friendship is seen through the heart, not through the eyes.

In summary, if all these factors mentioned previously are contemplated, I am still against the statement and believe that individuals can still/ definitely maintain their friendship even they move to different places, for well-developed technology and holding firm to our belief in friendship. After all, friendship is the wine-the older the better.

...approach this essay. • If you have any questions, please ask. Should We Pay? Many issues have been plaguing the sports world recently, especially the question of paying college athletes. Are athletics so important that colleges need to put out millions of dollars per year just to pay for students to play for them? Paying college athletes is like throwing a lit match into a haystack: once the fire is started, it just keeps burning, making a bad situation worse. There are several differences between the haystack and paying athletes. To start, throwing a needle in a haystack is a totally negative concept; everything will burn. However, with paying college athletes, some people can find reasons why this could be a positive thing. For instance, some believe paying athletes will bring more competition to the table and make some colleges much more prestigious than others. Others say this will bring in more money and more revenue. A second difference is the end of the situation. At the end of the fire, there is smoke and it will eventually put itself out. However, this is an issue that cannot extinguish itself. No matter what the verdict, someone is going to be unhappy and the "fire" will keep burning. [pic]Despite these differences there are many similarities between the two. One similarity is the haystack going up in flames and the whole educational system going up. If we pay our college athletes the focus will be more on the money than on learning. College...

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter Plot Overview

...Plot Overview The first chapter of The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter introduces us to John Singer and Spiros Antonapoulos, two good friends who live together in a town in the Deep South and who are both deaf-mutes. Antonapoulos works in his cousin's fruit store, and Singer works as a silver engraver in a jewelry shop. They spend ten years living together in this way. One day Antonapoulos gets sick, and even after he recovers he is a changed man. He begins stealing and urinating on buildings, and exhibiting other erratic behavior. Finally, Antonapoulos's cousin sends him to a mental asylum, although Singer would rather have Antonapoulos stay with him. After Antonapoulos leaves, Singer moves into a local boarding house in town run by a family named the Kellys. The narrator then introduces us to Biff Brannon, the proprietor of the New York Café, the establishment in town where Singer now eats all his meals. Biff is lounging on the counter watching a new patron named Jake Blount, as the constantly drunk Jake is intriguing. Blount goes over and sits with Singer and begins talking to him as though the two are good friends. Then Singer leaves. Once Jake realizes in his drunken stupor that Singer has left, he goes into an alley and begins beating his head and fists against a brick wall until he is bruised and bloody. The police bring Jake back to the café, and Singer volunteers to let the drunk stay the night with him. The narrative shifts to the perspective of Mick Kelly, the young teenage...

The Bean Trees Analysis

...As the Greek philosopher Socrates once said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new” (Socrates). The ability to adapt to change and have faith in others are two traits necessary for success. Barbara Kingslover’s The Bean Trees emphasizes these two crucial skills. A novel centered around a woman named Taylor, her daughter Turtle, and her close friend Lou Ann, The Bean Trees follows along on the difficult journey these characters face. Taylor and Lou Ann encounter many obstacles, including acquiring a child, divorcing a spouse, moving away from home, finding a new career path, and discovering new friends they could have never imagined. In Barbara Kingslover’s The Bean Trees, similes,...

My Experiences

...Phillip Mulligan Professor Lothman Introduction to Psychology 23.April.2013 Europe I have been to Europe twice in my life. The first time in 2006, I went with my immediate family. We flew to Germany, then drove to France, Austria, Switzerland, and even saw some of the Torino Olympics in Italy. It was an amazing trip, really opened up my eyes. The second time around was just this past year, in 2012. I flew into Germany again with my Father and a good family friend/neighbor. We met up with my sister who was studying there, then drove All around Germany and to Austria again. Both trips were absolutely amazing and shouldn’t be easily forgotten. Hopefully, they just scratched the surface of my European life The first trip was amazing. The journey started in I want to say 2004, in a very respectful and cultural Swiss restaurant called The Alp Horn, located in Canada. This was the restaurant that my family went to each year for three or four nights in a row. It was a short 20 minute drive from our hotel that we stayed at which is at the base of Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain is 4 seasons resort, popular for it’s skiing, located about 90 minutes from Toronto. We had always made yearly trips to this place to indulge in one of my fathers greatest pleasures, interacting with nature in the means of winter snow skiing. As we sat in our booth reminiscing on the fun we had just had for the past three days our parents told us something. They said they had a secret and were...

...whose achievements really put their male counterparts to shame. One need only look at the classic examples of Joan of Arc and Mulan to see how exceptionally women could perform on the battlefield. In my observation, their determination, courage and dignity, to this day, are still being admired by male soldiers and civilians alike throughout the world. Moreover, from an enlightened standpoint, female patriots should be granted the right to go to the front line when their motherland is involved in a war. Admittedly, gender inequality was a highly controversial issue in the twentieth century. However, now twelve years into the new millennium, women can learn and teach, work and supervise, vote and voted in most countries just like men. In light of this sweeping progress in gender equality, there is no sense in denying them the right to defend their home country when a war breaks out. In sum, keeping military services out of bounds of women in the information age is unwarranted. I have been convinced that it is in the best interest of a nation if women are also granted equal rights in this particular arena. Many newspapers and magazines feature stories about the private lives of famous people. We know what they eat, where they buy their...

...have stood so long untenanted? John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. John is practical in the extreme. He has no patience with faith, an intense horror of superstition, and he scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures. John is a physician, and perhaps -- (I would not say it to a living soul, of course, but this is dead paper and a great relief to my mind) -- perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick! And what can one do? If a physician of high standing, and one's own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression -- a slight hysterical tendency -- what is one to do? My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing. So I take phosphates or phosphites -whichever it is, and tonics, and journeys, and air, and exercise, and am absolutely forbidden to "work" until I am well again. Personally, I disagree with their ideas. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good. But what is one to do? I did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a good deal -- having to be too sly about it, or else meet with heavy opposition....

The Culture of Dota in the Philippines

...their Joshua Frankie B. Rayo Department of Computer Science University of the Philippines Diliman The Culture of DOTA in the Philippines Joshua Frankie B. Rayo Department of Computer Science, University of the Philippines Diliman jbrayo@up.edu.ph Abstract. The culture of DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) has taken the Philippines to storm because of its very creative gameplay that caused millions of Filipino students hard for them to avoid playing the game; and it is also evident from media to the internet. This game has brought such intense effects to the Filipino youth and its everyday life; up to the point where they are affected physically, psychologically, and their respective careers. Because of DOTA, the computer shops in the country have been growing massively since its release; the youth are gathered there to play informally and to show their enthusiasm and foster friendship, teamwork and camaraderie. It follows the ‘booming’ computer shop industry and culture in the country. Also, some people handle DOTA tournaments to encourage other people and make this gaming industry to grow in the country. Because of the addiction of the people playing the game, they also express DOTA through the arts and music, language, internet and the social networks. Due to the...

...How Many Kinds Of Principalities There Are, And By What Means They Are Acquired ALL STATES, all powers, that have held and hold rule over men have been and are either republics or principalities. Principalities are either hereditary, in which the family has been long established; or they are new. The new are either entirely new, as was Milan to Francesco Sforza, or they are, as it were, members annexed to the hereditary state of the prince who has acquired them, as was the kingdom of Naples to that of the King of Spain. Such dominions thus acquired are either accustomed to live under a prince, or to live in freedom; and are acquired either by the arms of the prince himself, or of others, or else by fortune or by ability. CHAPTER II Concerning Hereditary Principalities I WILL leave out all discussion on republics, inasmuch as in another place I have written of them at length, 1 and will address myself only to principalities. In doing so I will keep to the order indicated above, and discuss how such principalities are to be ruled and preserved. I say at once there are fewer difficulties in holding hereditary states, and those long accustomed to the family of their prince, than new ones; for it is sufficient only not to transgress the customs of his ancestors, and to deal prudently with circumstances as they arise, for a prince of average powers to maintain himself in his state, unless he be deprived of it by some extraordinary and excessive force; and if he should be so...

Idioms and Expression

...Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thailand, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn common, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscommunication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to assist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used...

I Want a Wife

...classification of people known as wives. I am A Wife. And, not altogether incidentally, I am a mother. Not too long ago a male friend of mine appeared on the scene fresh from a recent divorce. He had one child, who is, of course, with his ex-wife. He is looking for another wife. As I thought about him while I was ironing one evening, it suddenly occurred to me that I, too, would like to have a wife. Why do I want a wife? I would like to go back to school so that I can become economically independent, support myself, and, if need be, support those dependent upon me. I want a wife who will work and send me to school. And while I am going to school I want a wife to take care of my children. I want a wife to keep track of the children’s doctor and dentist appointments. And to keep track of mine, too. I want a wife to make sure my children eat properly and are kept clean. I want a wife who will wash the children’s clothes and keep them mended. I want a wife who is a good nurturant attendant to my children, who arranges for their schooling, makes sure that they have an adequate social life with their peers, takes them to the park, the zoo, etc. I want a wife who takes care of the children when they are sick, a wife who arranges to be around when the children need special care, because, of course, I cannot miss classes at school. My wife must arrange to lose time at work and not lose the job. It may mean a small cut in my wife’s income from time to time, but I guess I can tolerate that. Needless...

Officially denied (but known by experienced students) is that good, clear writing can cover a multitude of content weaknesses—in other words, even the most austere and reserved of teachers cannot avoid being affected ever-so-slightly toward the positive if the essay he or she is reading is well written and errorless—even if the premise of the essay is that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1992 in the Pinta, the Niña, and the Andrea Doria.
