Artificial Intelligence

First off what is Artificial Intelligence? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.
With that being said, now take a minute and try to imagine a machine or machines that can think on its own. As a child growing up, I liked watching cartoons such as Transformers, Gobots and Astro Boy. As I got older I enjoyed watching movies like I-Robot, Terminator, and Chappie. I always thought to myself how fun it would be to have robots that could think for themselves. Over the last several decades, AI computing methods for automated perception, learning, understanding, and reasoning have become common in our lives. We plan trips using GPS systems that rely on AI to cut through the complexity of millions of routes to find the best one to take. Our smartphones understand our speech, and Siri, Cortana, and Google Now are getting better at understanding our intentions. AI algorithms detect faces as we take pictures with our phones and recognize the faces of individual people when we post those pictures to Facebook. Internet search engines, such as Google and Bing, rely on a fabric of AI subsystems. On any day, AI provides hundreds of millions of people with search results, traffic predictions, and recommendations about books and movies. AI translates among languages in real time and speeds up the operation of our laptops by guessing what we’ll do next. Several companies, such as Google, BMW, and Tesla, are working on cars that can drive themselves either with partial human oversight or entirely on their own.

Beyond the influences in our daily lives, AI techniques are playing a major role...

Enc 1101 Classes

...“Fall” Semester or Fly this Semester In the summer leading up to my first semester in college, my expectations were high I knew if I were to study, and only attend my classes I should breeze through the courses with excellence. As I predicted, I began the fall semester effortlessly and my confidence was beginning to flourish as well. Being part of the Honors College, I was offered so many opportunities that I find it impossible to be isolated from others. I started participating in many events and volunteering through the Institute of Civic Engagement and Democracy. I recall this one event our ENC 1101 class initiated, we collaborated with the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy to form a service learning project that would educate and encourage students at Miami Dade College North Campus to take part in this year’s election. After the main event, I learned that participating and being engage is essential to be a successful college student; because it allowed me to build a network of friends, learn new things, and find opportunities that could not be found any other way. I realized through my activism that I...

First Experience in Enc 1101

...Alejandro Lopez  Professor Walter Hernandez  ENC 1101 April 18th, 2012 “My First Experience in ENC 1101” ENC 1101 is one of the most difficult and rewarding classes that I've taken, especially because I chose to take it during my first semester of college. It is a general requirement for every student at MDC and is geared to help those who aspire to become a professional graduate one-day. Since I picked ENC 1101 to be one of my first semester college classes, it's been a difficult course for me. My lack of grammar knowledge, experience writing essays and organizing ideas are the three factors that made this college class challenging. Even though it's been hard on me, I now know how to write essays the right way and also how to organize my ideas so I have a clear vision of what I'll be writing about. This is really important to me because learning how to write properly will not only help me pass ENC 1101, but it will help succeed in other classes, life, and my future career.   My ENC 1101 Professor Walter Hernandez not only motivated us to become better writers but also shared with us important tips regarding how to write like a college writer. He would always have a positive attitude, making the class amusing and enjoyable. The first week of school, Professor Hernandez showed the class "The ENC 1101 Survival Guide" which is a document containing essays written by Miami Dade College students that represent how his students made it through his class by becoming......

...There are many rules and regulations that one must follow when attending a class. For this class, English 1101, Mrs. Breedlove has provided an online syllabus for students to read and follow, to allow for proper flow in the classroom. Within the syllabus, there are many points about the class rules that each student is required to follow. It states, “You are expected to attend class each meeting...and make plans to get your assignments to me before the end of class”. To be successful in this class, one must show up to class everyday, as scheduled. If there are any issues, regarding health, work, or family, one should consult...

Unsw Mgmt 1101 Memo Week 3

...SUBJECT: Analysis of the best mode to entry UK market After doing an exhaustive market analysis I have concluded that the best option for our company will be entering the UK market through a wholly owned subsidiary, because it will reduce the risk of losing control in our technological competitive advantage. In the previous months we have been working on the expansion of our product and the possibility of entering the U.K market. Now, once we have decided which market are we entering, when are we doing so and on what scale, we should focus in how are we doing the entry. In order to take the best alternative possible we analyzed the various modes for entering foreign markets, assessing both the advantages and disadvantages. If we decide to export we wont need to invest in establishing manufacturing operations in the host country and we could benefit from the learning curve. Drawbacks to this are that the transport cost could be higher than the benefit that we will obtain; the trade barriers (customs tariffs or quotas) that the UK may have can slowdown the trade to the point of being unprofitable. In the other hand, expanding through a turnkey project will be a good choice if we are entering a country where FDI is complicated. However this method is risky because it could create strong competitors and it won't have sense if the company is planning a long-term presence in the market. Other way to entry is using licensing, as licensor is a good option because it......

Midtern Reflect

...English 1101 9 October 2013 Midterm Reflection I have done a variety of different assignments throughout my English 1101 class this semester. The assignments that have had the most influence on me include select chapters from J.M. Bohannon’s I Hate Writing, Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts”, Stephen King’s On Writing, and my practice with rhetorical analysis. Each of these assignments have significantly impacted me and caused me to view my own writing differently. They have helped me grow as a writer as well as come closer to finding my own writer’s “voice”. I have really enjoyed and learned from the chapters that I have read so far in I Hate Writing. My favorite chapter is chapter seven because Bohannon discusses many different ways to introduce a paper. I found her methods very helpful because I have a tendency to struggle when writing my introductions; I simply have no idea where to begin. Bohannon suggestions in chapter seven include telling a story, using a quotation, defining an unfamiliar term, directly stating an argument, writing in the reader, and being creative. After trying each of the options presented by Bohannon in this particular chapter, I found that using a quotation is my favorite technique. I feel it is the easiest way to start a paper off since I have something to base my paper off of. I also feel it is a good way to draw the reader in since a quote is simple, yet sets the theme and mood of a paper. I also appreciated the advice Bohannon gave......
