Mother taps her foot incessantly as father wipes his brow, eyes dart about the room. Son sits expressionless.

Son: May you pass the salt? (Quietly)
Mother: (Clears throat) of course darling. Is there something bothering you?
Son: Not at all, mother (sarcastically) is there anything bothering you?
Mother: Not at all

Mcdonalds's vs Jack in the Box

...McDonald’s and Jack in the box are two very well-known and popular brands in today’s fast food chain restaurants. The McDonald’s corporation is the largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving over 68 million customers in over 120 countries daily. It all started out as a BBQ restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald in California, later purchased by business man Ray Kroc, who started as a franchisee agent. He oversaw its worldwide growth potential and bought the franchisee. Jack in the Box, also an American fast-food restaurant chain with over 2200 locations mostly throughout the west coast of the US. Founded by Robert O. Peterson, he mainly focused on the drive thru intercom perspective to increase his business. In this paper, we will discuss the target markets and an ideal opening location for both of these well-known American fast food restaurant chains. McDonald’s has a vast demographic target which is every segment of the demography. This demography is based on family life cycles, age, gender, sex, nationality, income, generation and race. Since McDonald’s is a world-wide corporation, they have different demographics in hundreds of countries. Crucable

...The Jack in the Box Death roamed about the court during the Salem witch trials. During the Salem witch trials people were accused of being witches, if they confessed to being a witch they would survive. If they did not confess they would be hanged in front of the whole town. The play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller is all about the idea of the Salem witch trials. The Crucible is a play about people that can be related to a jack in the box that is capable of exploding with drama. The handle of the jack in the box is the stirring of the drama started by Tituba by confessing to being a witch. “No, no, don’t hang Tituba! I tell him I don’t desire to work for him, sir”- Tituba (847). By Tituba confessing to being a witch it is stirring the handle to a whole mess they won’t expect later. The only reason she confesses to being a witch is because Putnam wants to hang her for not confessing. When she confessed it triggered something in Abigail to start a whole parade of blaming people. Tituba is the conductor to spinning the handle of the jack in the box. When the handle is done being spun and toy jack pops out of the small wooden box spreading fear through young kids. As like the jack head popping out Abigail and the girls spread fear through Salem. Abigail is a very dauntless young women who is not afraid to lie to get her way. Abigail and her minions (girls) goal was to get Elizabeth Proctor arrested for being a witch and hanged to death because Abigail was in...

Organizational Behavior

...McDonald’s and Its Crisis What should a company do when its core product is considered “unhealthy” or even “harmful” by the public? Is it even possible for such a company survive and thrive; or will it have to shut down its business? McDonald’s fast food has for a long time been considered unhealthy by the public. In recent years, the health conscious trends have become increasingly popular. Moreover, many scientific studies and findings have surfaced and successfully confirmed that children’s increasing intake of fast food, which often contains high sodium content, sugars, saturated fats, and calories, for a long period of time would lead to childhood obesity. Moreover, obese children have a much higher risk of many health problems such as coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and certain cancers--all of which are fatal if left untreated. In 2010, a mother from California sued McDonald’s over the company’s marketing practice of Happy Meal. The mother claimed that McDonald’s used alluring toys to lure kids into Happy Meal. This lawsuit, which might be viewed by many as senseless and absurd, was one of McDonald’s biggest cases. In order to come out of the lawsuit ahead, this largest fast food chain had to undergo some major organizational changes. In this paper, we would like to use the knowledge learned in the class to analyze the event (the lawsuit) and its effects on McDonald’s. The paper will have four main parts. In the first part...

...Jack in the Box Unethical Accounting Business The article I have chosen to summarize highlights the accounting practices of a San Diego--based company, Jack in the Box, Inc. (NYSE: JBX). In addition to summarizing the article, I will discuss how the concepts of the article relate to my organization The Platinum Company Inc., including, making recommendations for improvement for my organization based on the article. Lastly, explain the importance of ethics in accounting and financial decision making. Although Jack in the Box remained strong with widely varied menu items and unique marketing strategies through the E. coli disaster of 1993, the current economic slump in the fast food industry highlights serious controversy over the company's new growth strategy and accounting practices (Bauder). In this article, analysts are challenging the accounting practices of a San Diego-based company, Jack in the Box. In their 10-k report, Jack in the Box is listing franchise sales as "other revenues", which on paper triples their operation income to $9.1 million. David N. Allen of investment banking firm Caris & Co., questions this practice as the, "Selling of company assets to franchisees is not the same as selling a food product". He goes further saying that the company should separate operating earnings from non-operating income. Reporting gains from asset sales to franchisees is inappropriate. Jack in the Box countered this claim by stating that other fast food chains use the same...

Cracker Jack Frito Lay

...CRACKER JACK An analysis of potential brand acquisition by Diversified Products Corporation John Bry Sonja Gessling Phil Mark    Sara Meinke Jordan Schulz    Som Thamma Cindy Tsai Cohort C  ‐ Team 4 CURRENT SITUATION ANALYSIS: Cracker Jack (CJ) is a classic American caramel-coated popcorn and peanut snack that was acquired by Frito-Lay (FL) in 1997.1,2 Sales peaked in 1998 to $100M but soon sank back to $30M per year and has remained at that level since.3 Several factors are attributed to this sales slump. FL incorporated CJ into its existing distribution model that utilizes Direct Store Delivery and packaged CJ in Mylar bags (as opposed to the classic boxes). They also shelved CJ with other Frito-Lay salty snack products such as Lays Potato Chips, despite 98% of consumers rating CJ as a sweet snack and not a salty one. 4 Although priced lower than the leading caramel corn brands, CJ still appears expensive when merchandised next to inexpensive potato chips. Consequently CJ has numerous misalignments and a comparatively low profit margin (8.2% compared to snack average of 20.5%).5,6 The low price point combined with rising commodity prices has forced FL to substantially cut the quality of the prizes found inside each box to control costs, angering long time consumers.7 CJ, having stagnant sales for the past ten years, has not received the support required for brand revitalization, instead relying on steady baseball stadium sales to survive.8 Overall...

...Abstract McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack in the box have two things in common. They all are fast food restaurant and they started off selling burgers. Today all three restaurants is popular and offers the same product but the taste value propositions and is what separates each of them from being exactly alike. Value propositioning is “The full positioning of a brand- the full mix of benefits upon which it is positioned.” For any business differentiating themselves is just as important as serving their customers. For fast food chains such as; Mc Donald’s, Burger King and Jack in the Box of course they share similarities but they also have distinctive differences. Such as McDonald’s donates proceedings from their happy meals to a charity, Burger King charbroils their hamburgers and Jack in the Box has an ad pitchman named Jack. Fast-food restaurants and their value propositions Before McDonald’s started serving breakfast and coffee was known for being cheap and affordable. With over 31,000 restaurants, serving nearly 4.6 million customers daily, McDonald’s is the world’s leading fast food chain. McDonald’s opened in 1955 and opened its first foreign restaurant in 1967, just eleven years after opening its doors, and it wasn’t until 1983 that Mu nuggets were introduced. “I’m loving it” is just a mere reflection of McDonald’s success. Their slogan/proposition almost “ensures” that no matter what you order you’ll be satisfied. When it comes to being different McDonald’s is...

Abigail Smith Monologue

...that’s important to some people.     It’s been a month after Abigail's passing, Jack  went to clean out her locker. Inside was a box, inside of that box held tapes. He takes the box home with him and decides to listen to the first one. “Hi, my name is Abigail Smith. I’m about to tell you my story. More importantly, my story on how I died. If you’re listening to this, you’re one of the reasons why. Fear not, if you’ve received this little box your name will pop up sometime, why would a dead girl lie? Hey, that sounds like a joke. Why would a dead girl lie, answer, because she can’t stand up. Go ahead, laugh. Oh well I thought it was funny. There are two rules. First, listen carefully. Two, pass the tapes along. None of this should be easy, I made sure of that. In case you decide to break the rules, I’ve made copies of the tapes and will be put out in a public way if it does not get passed to everyone.” Jack listened until he heard his name. He was the first person she talked about. He was confused as to how he could be...

Supply Chain Job

...doctor. I watched doctor shows, asked my doctor's questions about how they've got to where they are today, volunteered at UCSD medical, and researched many medical topics. Unfortunately while attending college I have finally rationalized that I'm not exactly cut out for medical school. Through my internship at Jack in the Box Inc., I’ve discovered my true passion is in supply chain management. I am near the completion of my undergraduate studies and I believe that I must really consider the future. Because I want to be more aware of what I want to do in the future, I have proactively done research on grad school and supply chain management. Although I previously believed my sole purpose in life was to be a doctor, college and my experiences have assisted me in figuring out that I want a career in supply chain management and to further my education. All the products that we have didn't come from thin air, companies and corporations have supply chains to ensure that these products get to the consumer. Many are unaware of how products start from conception and end up in their hands, so I looked into supply chain management. Last year I applied for an internship at Jack in the Box Inc. and I've never been happier at a job. I am currently still an intern in supply chain and surprisingly I've been granted many duties. This internship is very hands on and I attend meetings, speak to suppliers, write product specifications, and many more things. I have learned so much about what supply...
