Leaving the sunny skies of Southern California wasn’t easy for Jade Walker, but after suffering two gut wrenching, tragic events, she made the difficult decision to leave her new life behind and return to that which she knew the best. Relocating back home to the rural community of Wolf Creek, located roughly three-thousand miles east of the bustling west coast city of Crawford, allowed her the chance to clear her head and also seize the opportunity to begin the career of her dreams as a published romance author. After the moving men placed the last cardboard box inside of her soon-to-be home office, Jade presented them with a generous tip and sent them on their way. Hearing Viola’s voice was a welcome sound until her grandmother weakly uttered the words Jade never, ever wanted to hear. As she dropped to her knees and tears streamed down her cheeks, she learned that her loving mother,
Jennifer, had passed away from a sudden, massive heart attack. Having lost her father, Jeremy Walker, ten years prior, Jade began to feel the weight of the world upon her shoulders. After burying her mother, she discussed the idea of moving back home to Wolf Creek with Viola, but the strong-willed, independent seventy-five-year-old would not hear of it. Insisting that Jade remain on the west coast, Viola proclaimed time-and-time again that she could take care of herself. Knowing that her granddaughter, who refused to accept any monetary gifts from her, had a successful career gave Viola peace of mind, a fact that she pointed out to Jade on many occasions. Six months ago, when Viola died after battling a terrible bout of pneumonia, Jade discovered that her grandmother had willed all property and financial holdings to her.
