...Traffic Jam I live in Dhaka, only 20 minutes away from my university; but I get out from my house about 1 hour and 15 minutes before class will start. Because of terrible traffic jam, most of the time it takes about an hour to reach university. I remember a week, right after Eid-ul-Fitr Dhaka city was like half empty, at that week I went to university in 20 minutes. Dhaka is a mega city. More than twelve million people live here. Day by day the number is increasing and most part of Dhaka is badly affected by the population growth. More than 7 hundred thousand rickshaws ply the city road, but only 75 thousand have legal number. This huge number of rickshaws is creating traffic jam. From time to time attempts are made to reduce the number, but the initiative usually produces no results. The number of rickshaw pullers is huge. Almost there are no roads or street or lane free from traffic jam. Traffic jam is obstructing trade and commerce. Illegal parking is another reason for traffic jam. Cars, trucks and other vehicles are parked almost everywhere. Faulty traffic signaling systems, inadequate manpower and narrow road spaces and overtaking tendency of drivers create pro-longed traffic congestions and intensify sufferings of commuters keeping people motionless as well as creating suffocating condition in the streets. Also there are bus terminals not authorized by the traffic department and drivers do not go by traffic rules. VIP protocol maintaining is another reason for frequent...

...riding for about 2 weeks I started finding ways to make my journey shorter. I go through gullies, riding on the footpath on some occasions and occasionally during extreme jams. I also squeeze between cars and change lanes to make maximum use of the little pockets of free road. Contrary to being indisciplined, I think it makes sense that some of us do this. It reduces the load on the already clogged road. When a few people do this, it reduces the jams and makes maximum use of the resources. Occasionally the odd amateur creates a bigger jam. But thats just a learning experience. Soon he finds ways to get home faster without delaying himself or others. I know this is not the ideal thing to do. But I am not riding on ideal roads. I guess this applies to India as well. The resources are never adequate. So people start finding shortcuts to work around that and the system. Making most use of our precious resources is what has kept us growing. India cannot be compared to the west were resources are in abundance. Here people need to be more innovative, creative and have to really think out of the box. And this happens at the lowest levels- from rural India to small traders and businesses. Now back to whitefield, if everybody maintained a minimum of 2 feet distance between the vehicle in front of you- the jam would look orderly but would be a mile long. So before you comment saying "See the west. Everything is so orderly"... remember at some level it is our disorderliness which...

...from the bus window. What are the landmarks? _________________________________________________________________ ----------------------- With London’s underground railway (or “Tube”), you can go to most places in the city. Although it is fast, in rush hour the Tube is often crowded. So it is important to avoid the Tube between 0800 and 0930, and between 1600 and 1830. The cheapest way to travel on the Tube is to buy a travel card. You can also use this on London’s famous red buses. Although traveling by bus is slow, you can see many popular landmarks from the bus window. Travelling by taxi is, of course, the most convenient way to go. Although taxis ae comfortable, they are expensive. Pray that there are no traffic jams when you are in a taxi. The taxi fares can be very high! If you are not in a hurry, take a slow boat along the Thames, London’s river. Or try the cheapest transport of all- your feet! Walking is a great way to see the sights in this beautiful...

...9 Negative Social Habits to Quit Today 1. Seeking attention by complaining. I spoke to someone yesterday who all but refused to talk about the positive aspects of their life. After listening to their troubles, I asked about some of the cool projects they have going on. Within two sentences, they were back to complaining about trivial things. We all need to share our troubles with friends or strangers from time to time, but don’t fall into the habit of turning conversations into your own personal dumping ground 100 percent of the time. It’s an easy way to get attention, but it’s a poor way to keep it; and it’s a poor way to view your life. 2. Focusing on your inner monologue instead of the dialogue in front of you. “Holy crap! That’s a great idea. Wow. What can I say that will sound smart and clever? I really hope they think I’m intelligent. I could touch on symbolism or make a reference to post-modernism. Wait – what did they just ask me?” Stay focused on the other person’s words and points. People rarely mind when you say, “Hmm. Let me think about that for a second.” Quite the opposite, since it shows that you’re taking the conversation seriously. If you compose your answers while someone else is speaking, you’re really only having half a conversation. 3. Multi-tasking while you chat. Even if you are a professional multi-tasker, if you’re talking to someone, talk to them, and that’s it. Don’t browse online, don’t watch TV, don’t update your to-do...

...The True You Everyone in this world is unique and special in his or her own way. Each individual has their own personality, but when compared to others a lot of traits are common amongst everyone. Finding out your true color, not only helps discover what type of person you are it always helps you understand those around you. I took the true colors test, a series of questions that asked what I prefer, what I would do, etc. While taking the true colors test I had a hard time describing myself and picking exactly which color I was, but I made sure to answer everything truthfully. In the end, I discovered that I am the color orange. The core needs and values of orange are we need freedom, adventure, spontaneity, excitement, competition and we are skillful. I believe that the color orange describes me very well. I personally believe that working on team projects can be a challenge, but after learning about orange I have discovered that I have many skills that I can bring to the table. As an orange I am very enthusiastic about my work. I always want to get a jump-start on my work so I can move onto my next task. I see this skill helping me in a group project because this means I am action-oriented so I will get my job done with the results I desire. I will also make sure that my teammates are doing their jobs as well. I am also a straightforward person, so if I do not like something that is happening in my group I will definitely voice my opinion, in a polite way of course. Lastly...

...We can easily find friends but have you ever thought of what kinds of people you should make friend with? Friends are really important in our lives and they should be loyal, supportive, loving and kind-and we should give that loyalty, support, love and kindness back in return. How many friends we have is not as have a few friends who have similarity to you. Decide what kinds of friends who suitable for you is difficult, right? Here is a list of top three kinds of friends we should cultivate. The listener is a kind of friend who can sit near and listen to you. Sound strange, right? Of course, if you have a chat with your friends about your happiness, they will always listen to you; however, what if you talk to them about your family trouble, will all of them be able to sit patiently listen to you? If you can friends who can do that, hold them into your life because they are the listener. Another kind of friend is the twin. Have you ever met someone who has nearly every single interest similar to you? The twin is the one who seems to share every single interest that you have. For example, you both like country music and love reading. In short the twin is a friend who is just like you. It is really rare to find this kind of friend but you already have one, you are very lucky! The last one is the motivator. Sometimes, we think that having friends who can accept who we really are is enough but if we can find someone who can make our lives better, it would be the best. It does...

...Testing a Theory Julio Melara PSY 211 August 24, 2011 Gloria S. Ringsby Bringing a Fly Back From the Dead I do not remember where or from whom, but several years I heard that someone could bring back a fly from the dead by completely covering it in salt. I was very skeptic when I first heard about this wanted to see if it was true so decided to try for myself. I did not do any kind of formal research as I thought this was just another wild story someone had started after they probably had too many drinks and thought they saw a fly come back to life. In any case I started to kill flies and pour salt on them but could not get any of them to come back to life. After talking to one of my friends probably just joking around, the subject came up and he told me the theory about bringing a dead fly back to life was true; the trick was you could not completely squash the life out of the fly. The trick to doing this was to catch the fly and kill it by drowning it. So I decided to give it another shot and try it. One day at friends house while enjoying a nice swim I was able to catch a fly and drown it in the pool. After I knew the fly was dead I completely covered it in salt, and after what seemed to be a couple of minutes the fly started to crawl out from under the salt and took flight again. This not only made a believer out of me but I was also able to amaze my friends around the pool on that day by performing this trick. I would say that what I did to test this theory...

...25 Manners Every Kid Should Know By Age 9 Manner #1; When asking for something, say "Please." Manner #2; When receiving something, say "Thank you." Manner #3; Do not interrupt grown-ups who are speaking with each other unless there is an emergency. They will notice you and respond when they are finished talking. Manner #4; If you do need to get somebody's attention right away, the phrase "excuse me" is the most polite way for you to enter the conversation. Manner #5; When you have any doubt about doing something, ask permission first. It can save you from many hours of grief later. Manner #6; The world is not interested in what you dislike. Keep negative opinions to yourself, or between you and your friends, and out of earshot of adults. Manner #7; Do not comment on other people's physical characteristics unless, of course, it's to compliment them, which is always welcome. Manner #8; When people ask you how you are, tell them and then ask them how they are. Manner #9; When you have spent time at your friend's house, remember to thank his or her parents for having you over and for the good time you had. Manner #10; Knock on closed doors -- and wait to see if there's a response -- before entering. Manner #11; When you make a phone call, introduce yourself first and then ask if you can speak with the person you are calling. Manner #12; Be appreciative and say "thank you" for any gift you receive. In the age of e-mail, a handwritten thank-you note can have...

It makes us feel secure to know that our girlfriends aren't off flirting with guys we've never heard of. *Also, don't talk about your ex-boyfriends. We never have, nor ever w...ill respect or like them, nor do we want to hear about them. When you do, you're asking your boyfriend to be jealous. You're asking your boyfriend to lose trust. *On that, don't hump everything that walks into the room. We don't care if you talk to other guys. We don't care if you're friends with other guys. But when you're sitting next to us, and some random guy walks into the room and you jump up and tackle him, without even introducing us, yeah, it pisses us off. It doesn't help if you sit there and talk to him for ten minutes without even acknowledging the fact that we're still there. *Also, when we tell you you're pretty/ beautiful/ gorgeous/ cute/ stunning, we freaking mean it. Don't tell us we're wrong. We'll stop trying to convince you. The sexiest thing about a girl is confidence. Yeah, you can quote me. *Don't be mad when we hold the door open. Smile and say "thank you." Let us pay for you. Don't "feel bad." We enjoy doing it. It's expected. Smile and say - everybody together now - "thank you." *Kiss us when no one's watching. If you kiss us when you know nobody's looking we'll be more impressed. *You don't have to get dressed up for us. If we're going out with you in the first place, you don't have to feel...
