In his book Crossroads of freedom, James McPherson describe the battle of Antietam, known as the bloodiest battle in American history. McPherson’s thesis is clearly exposed and can be perceive in the tittle. In other word, he assume that the battle of Antietam was the most important event during the U.S civil war. The thesis on which McPherson relies, also emphasizes that the defeat of the Confederate offensives in 1862 was the key event of the civil war.
