Metting in Minutes

...How I Met Your Mother Opening January 13, 2015 The regular meeting of the How I Met Your Mother was called to order at 6:30 on January 13,2015 in CBS by Erin Schwartz. Present Ted Mosby, Lily Aldrin, Marshal Erikson, Barney Stinson and Robin Scherbatsky Scene One Lily Aldrin is having contractions in her apartment while Ted and Robin are freaking out. Ted had this crazy idea that he should make an email to send to their family and friends to let people know she’s going into labor but Lily doesn’t want that. The only thing Lily wants right now is for Ted and Robin to tell her stories about their friendship to keep her mind occupied from the pain. While Ted and Robin are telling Lily these stories, Barney is in a casino with Marshal (Lily husband) who drank a little too much Barney promised Marshal he would get him there in time for the baby. If he does he asked if he could choose the middle name of the baby which is ‘Wait for it.’ The only way Barney could get Marshal back in New York is to try to win a motorcycle. They lost so Barney decided it was time to steal it, but he got caught. Eventually, They caught a bus and Barney convinced the bus driver to drop them off at the hospital just in time for the baby arrival. Agenda for Next Meeting A jump to the future finds the gang celebrating Barney's wedding and reminiscing about how they emboldened Ted to seek true love and do whatever it takes to get back with the one that got away. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned...

Five Levels of Leadership

...example, a college graduate joins the Marine Corp and is given the position of Second Lieutenant. Another way to become a positional leader is to be given a promotion because someone in authority recognizes a talent, trait, or potential they consider to be consistent with a leader (Maxwell, 2011). At the position level of leadership, it is about power and position. Mr. Maxwell uses a great analogy to make this point. He refers to characters on the Andy Griffith Show. He describes the Sheriff, Andy Taylor as a laid back people person. Everyone knew he was in charge. He did not even carry a gun. He would talk with people and use his influence to lead. On the other hand was Deputy Barney Fife. Deputy Fife carried a gun and a single bullet but only because Andy allowed him to do so. When Barney was in charge everyone knew it. He had to tell everyone that he held the “position” of leadership while Andy was away. He often pulled his gun, unnecessarily, to show that he had the power to take control of anyone who might question his position. He was not about influencing people but about forcing his position of power upon them. According to the John Maxwell, these leaders are lonely because of the way they act. They get people’s least, not their best performance and when they ask their subordinates for something extra, they may get compliance but they rarely get commitment. Ironically, positional leaders are also usually just doing enough to get and stay in their position...

Media Review

...A LOOK AT THE MEDIA While watching 30 minutes of Fairly Odd Parents on Nickelodeon I noted that the theme was about getting a girl. Timmy Turner, the main character uses his Fairy God Parents to make wishes. He is considered a “good guy” however he abuses his powers. When Timmy uses violence no one makes any complaints. For example, he used Cupid’s arrows to shoot Trixie, the love of his life. The arrows made her fall in love with him. This show tries to justify violence by creating characters that miraculously recover by the next scene or even in the middle of the scene. It seems that Timmy Turner and his Fairy God Parents hold the power in the show. In order for Timmy to make wishes he needs his Fairies. They are to grant him every wish that he wishes for, with some rules of course. Instead of ending with violence Timmy finds a way to reverse his wishes. In this episode his mother was hit with an arrow and fell in love with Mr. Crocker who is Timmy’s teacher and foe. Timmy lives with his mother and father. They are married and their relationship with Timmy is portrayed negatively. There has been an episode or two that shows his parents grounding him, other than that adult guidance is absent. It is very easy for Timmy to trick his parents. He can do that with or without his fairies. They don’t seem to really care what Timmy does. His parents are rarely home. They leave him with a terrible baby sitter named Vicky while they go out. Most main characters are males (Timmy...

Supply Management

...Case Study #1 – Sunspot, Inc. 1. Strategic alliances among suppliers can be beneficial among companies that share the same vision. Some benefits of an alliance include lower total costs, reduced time to market, improved quality, improved technology and improved continuity of supply. In the case of Sunspot, Inc. the CEO, Ms. Monica Foltz can look to adopt and create strategic alliances with suppliers for parts to manufacture sunglasses. Overall, Ms. Foltz can hope to lower costs of sunglasses which may help to garner more market share and increase her customer base. She can also direct more of her attention on future development, new products, R&D and innovation because an alliance allows for a shared vision among the supply base and openness that is progressive towards current demand. 2. Disadvantages of alliances may include many factors. One such factor is in order to have an alliance, the firm must have executive level commitment. Without the commitment of top level executives alliances can be hard to get long term vision shared between alliances. Two firms need to pledge to cooperate for long term success and be open about cost, long term objectives, technology, and the overall supply chain. The relationship must be adaptable through changing economic struggles and advantages, environmental issues and competition. Another disadvantage of alliances may include the fact that they are resource intensive. On top of all of these factors, alliances take a...

...To: Fred Flintstone, Manager of Bedrock Indiana Computing Services From: Barney Rubble , Support Team at Bedrock Indiana Computing Services Date: September 29, 2014 Subject: Web Conferencing for Bedrock Mr. Flintstone, We, the support staff, have recently identified that here at Bedrock there is a need for conferencing equipment so we can communicate with our sister office, Capone’s Illinois Computing and Company in Chicago. We have spoken with Capone’s support staff and identified the following needs that we both have: 1. Crisp video so we can see each other’s moves with clarity 2. Clear sound quality so we can both understand each other very well 3. An easy to use interface that even a not so wise guy can use and understand In the table attached, we have listed 3 possible options that we believe Capone’s as well as Bedrock can come to an agreement on. On the table page we have also listed our resources so you may visit each website and read about them if you wish. Below I will give a basic overview of the 3 options. Our first option is Skype. It is a well-known platform that can deliver what we need to do for a very small fee. Setup is simple and we already have a laptop that we can use the webcam on to run the session. We can also call any landline in the United States for $2.99/month as well as worldwide should we deem that necessary. Our Second option is WebEx. Cost is around $19/month and offers great video and sound quality over the internet. With this...

Himym & Sexist Ideology

...How I Met Your Mother Show and the Sexist Ideology The television show, How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) was first aired on CBS television in the year 2005. Its airing continued until March 2014 with its different episodes eliciting a lot of public attention and curiosity partly because of the unique way in which its core theme was being passed to the audience. Throughout the TV show, Ted Mosby emerges as an unmatched main character. It is through the activities of Ted and his group of close friends that live in Manhattan that Ted manages to articulate to his daughter and son the various issues, activities, and challenges that he addresses as he falls in love with their mother – Ted’s wife. In this paper, I argue that the show has a sexist ideology that emphasizes the fact that women are easy to manipulate and can be used in any way that a man desires (Matterhorn 4-13; Capps 1-3). The sexist or feminist ideology is very dominant in the show. The relationship between Ted Mosby and other characters plays an important role in communicating critical love relationships in a comic way. The use of comedy greatly helps the film writers and actors to incorporate vital messages in a rather jovial manner. Issues that would otherwise be considered sensitive are therefore portrayed in a keen and very peculiar manner that also addresses the challenges and good experiences that people in relationships often experience. Indeed, Ted is a character in the CBS television show that is over focused...

Andrew Carnegie: The Death Of John D. Rockefeller

...This episode starts off just recapping some of things that happened in the first episode. Cornelius Vanderbilt died after a long life of hard work in the business of the railroads. Jon D. Rockefeller shot onto the scene as one of the most successful oil men in America, and as a result almost completely put the railroads out of business. A man that still managed to keep his railroad alive was Tom Scott and hid protege Andrew Carnegie. When Rockefeller found out that Scott had built an oil line that basically undermined the ones that he had already built, he pulled all of his oil off Scott’s train and ultimately put Scott out of business. The fall of Scott’s railroad empire was a huge blow to him and was ultimately caused his death. This was a traumatic experience for Carnegie as Scott was a very important figure in his life. Before Scott died he took Carnegie to the mighty Mississippi and told him his plan to build a bridge across the river to connect the East and West sides of the United States. Carnegie saw this as an opportunity to make it big in the business world just like his mentor Scott did with the railroads. Carnegie from that point on started to meet with different designers and men who had a background in bridge building. Every man that he would speak to kept telling him that it was impossible and that it was never going to work because the iron that they had available at the time wasn’t strong enough to with stand the weight of the bridge. Steel at the time was a...

Hip Hop Today

...Lil Wayne felt as if that was a direct insult to the music that they were making. But what many failed to realize was that Nas has achieved a great deal in his career, which made others artists work harder to compete. When you think of Hip Hop a few artists probably come to mind – Wale, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Drake, etc. When you hear them rap it is as if the beat was made to fit their flow instead of the other way around. Jay-Z once said that “once you hear a beat you must find your place in that beat”. In my opinion certain artists have perfected the pocket presence inside of a beat such as Kanye West, B.o.B. to name a few. Many of them hold the “southern ring tone music movement” which is said to be responsible for the Death of Hip hop. This movement was led by artist such as Soulja Boy, D4L, and New boys because their nursery rhymes lyrics have no meaning and its only purpose is to get the youth to the dance floor. Auto-Tune also threw the rap world into frenzy while artist like T-Pain mastered the craft others have totally massacred it. Once again Jay-Z came to the rescue with his single Death of Auto-tune and ended this well over-due phase in Hip Hop. As far as the current state of Hip Hop, it is on the rise again with the release of The Carter IV, G.o.o.d Kid M.a.a.d City and 2.0. Conscious rappers are taking the art back. I believe that Hip Hop needs to return to the art of storytelling where a kid from the streets of Brooklyn can tell his tale of hustling to pay bills...

Color in the Great Gastby

...The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald Chapter 6 Color Analysis May 24, 2011 Jay Gatsby | -“torn green jersey” (104): The color green symbolizes wealth and money. At this time in the book, Gatsby is working for Dan Cody, the guy who greatly supplies his wealth. The fact that the jersey is torn signifies the hard work that Gatsby demonstrates which then leads to him reaping the benefits of hard work. This section furthers to talk about his parents and how they were “unsuccessful farm people” also that Gatsby “was a son of God.” This is to say that although Gatsby’s parents were hard workers, they were unsuccessful in reaching their ideal “American dream”. Gatsby is currently making those dreams happen. He was helping to complete his father’s business, and is therefore relatively “a son of God.”---- The green jersey also symbolizes the new life that he yearns for that is full of wealth. Right at this stage in the book, Gatsby is called different names: Gatsby, James Gats, Jay Gatsby, young Gats: Each name recognizes a different stages of growth towards the Wealthy life.-“His brown, hardened body lived naturally through the half fierce, half lazy work of the bracing days.” (104): Brown is the color of earth, and of “getting down and dirty”. It further symbolizes the humility Gatsby underwent while with Dan Cody. Because the idea of wealth plagued Gatsby (“his heart was in a constant turbulent riot.”), he reaped the fruit of his labor as discussed with the color change discussed...

Dick Diver Jay Gatsby Compare and Contrast

...Compare and Contrast: Jay Gatsby and Dick Diver Griffin Gilmore Mrs. Clark Humanities 28 November 2012 In the novels Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night by Scott Fitzgerald the two main characters, Jay and Dick both face problems in achieving their dreams and face much adversity trying to achieve it. In both novels pursuing their dreams leads to their demise due to their failure to realize that success is from within, not from the superficial qualities that the society around them looks up to. The first difference between Gatsby and Dick is how they value money. Jay Gatsby believes that with money he can buy his happiness, he plans on using his money to fall in love with him and have her leave her current husband (Tom) to be with himself. Dick on the other hand doesn't like all the wealth of Nicole and trues to distance himself way from it. When Nicole and himself start out they are living off of his few thousand a year. Nicole's parents then buy them their own clinic. Much like Gatsby his wealth by no means that he is happy. “had wedded a desire for money to an essentially unacquisitive nature … he had never felt more sure of himself … than at the time of his marriage to Nicole. Yet he has been swallowed up like a gigolo, and somehow permitted his arsenal to be locked up in the Warren safety deposit vaults.” This just goes to show how even with their almost endless income, they were not satisfied, which properly illustrates the time period which took place then,...

...sound and become more commercialized at one point or another. However, whether this movement was a negative or positive phenomenon is argued about by many. Commercialization is usually the application of business in order to profit or to exploit. This method has remained one of the objectives of people in the hip-hop culture. Hip-hop gives people the opportunity to show their talent of rapping, break-dancing, DJing and graffiti to earn money and live what was considered an ideal lifestyle. The culture of Hip-Hop is entering the mainstream via the use of music and proper publicizing. A few people make it and become very successful and others do not succeed and ruin their reputation. Jay-Z is easily one of the most successful hip-hop artists having had a net worth of approximately $500 million in 2011. Jay-Z has sold around 40 million albums around the world and has received multiple Grammies as well as nominations. Sean ‘P. Comparsion

...In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1920s era novel The Great Gatsby, the character George Wilson shoots the protagonist Jay Gatsby dead. But who is to blame for this moral lapse in judgment? Obviously the person who pulled the trigger, right? But what about other shady characters like Tom and Daisy Buchanan who lied to George in order to get “off the hook”? It is clear that Tom and Daisy played a key role in the murder of Gatsby; therefore, they should share the responsibility for his death. When George comes to Tom to find out who owns the yellow car, Tom reveals that it was Gatsby, knowing full well George’s deranged mental state and his intentions to murder the car owner. Furthermore, Tom fails to mention important details about the accident—like the fact that it was Daisy driving the car, not Gatsby—in order to pin the blame on Gatsby. It is obvious that Tom knew about Daisy’s involvement in car accident because of his decision to leave town the day after the incident. Furthermore, Tom’s spineless cowardice is displayed by his failure to fess up to the crime of adultery with George’s wife. It is obvious to Tom that George is hunting for the man who had the affair with his wife, and yet Tom has the mendaciousness to blame his own crimes on Gatsby as well. It must be stressed that Tom knew full well while speaking with George that afterward he would seek out Gatsby and try to kill him—and yet he does nothing. This makes him directly accountable for the death...

Broken by Betrayal

...Broken by Betrayal Teenagers today face intense social issues that can have serious effects on a person’s mental and emotional health. Jay Asher in his novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, uses a unique narrative to confront the consequences of these issues, specifically the effects of betrayal. The betrayal of trusted friends and confidants, can dramatically effect an individual’s life. To begin, the continual betrayal Hannah Baker receives from those around her cripples her ability to trust new people and even to trust herself. Hannah reflects on her relationship with Courtney, “I wanted to be wrong about you, Courtney. I did. I wanted you to see it as me picking you up so we could go to a party together. And that is very different from me giving you a lift” (Asher, 101). Courtney betrays Hannah by using her for a ride to a party to maintain her image as the ‘nice, popular’ girl. Another incident of betrayal comes when Zach steals Hannah’s personal messages in Peer Communications class. Hannah says, “It might not seem like a big deal to you, Zach. But now, I hope you understand. My world was collapsing. I needed those notes. I needed any hope those notes might have offered” (Asher, 165). This quote emphasizes Hannah’s suffering at the loss of personal messages that could have provided much needed encouragement and hope. The accumulation of the betrayals that Hannah suffers means that Hannah cannot trust anyone and create meaningful relationships; as a result Hannah committed...
