Jefferson Wears a tie

It’s a story about a man called Jefferson Mansfield he is a Sales Administration Manager he has had this position for the last three years. He watches his life pass by him. Doing the same work over and over again, and no one notices him or gives him any appraisal of his work. He doesn’t really defend himself in front his bosses but only let’s all his emotions go on the inside. He feels his work is totally pointless. One day he shows up for work in a really nice looking suit and is sure to get promoted but he feels it’s an hollow victory even if he would get the job, because everything would be the same, except for his job title. Then he wakes up in his bed at the weekend he feels totally empty and is using most of his time to think about other things than work. He tries to convince the “happiness tribunal” that he has a very rich and colourful life. At the end he gets fed up with everything, and shows up at work in a fluffy green pyjama, and enters his boss’s office.
Jefferson evolves from being a very polite man, with control of himself. He sees himself as a part of the working mass. He tries to impress his bosses by doing his work as fast as possible, and by wearing nice clothes, he goes to great lengths to get a clap on the shoulder. But he ends up having what seems like a nervous breakdown, showing up at work in his pyjamas.
His work environment seems like a place where nothing really matters in a way that there are so many job titles, and the boss has no idea about what the employees are doing, or how they are doing. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of social life. His fellow workers and even his boss are dreaming and talking about vacations and seem to want to get away from that place.
I think that most people adapt to the norm because it’s the easiest thing to do, and it’s hard to fall out of the norm because you risk being

Jefferson Wears a Tie

...Crooked teeth, oily hair, and bony knees are my curses. I remember she cried a lot because she was always worried that I would turn out like my “stinking, rotting, lout-of-a-father.” I never could figure out who she wanted me to turn out like. Uncle Barney? The only job that I ever knew he had was working as Santa Claus once a year. It’s not like he was any good at it either. Good old Barney couldn’t walk straight thanks to the flask of whiskey he kept hidden inside his red Santa suit. He once told me that the pillow he had to wear was like a shelf for his liquor. What did I know? I stopped getting excited at the sight of Santa Claus walking through our trailer door when I was five and Santa pulled off his beard and asked me to get him a stiff drink. So I’ve pretty much been pickpocketing all my life; even after my old man skipped town without so much as a damn note or phone call for his only son. I don’t keep the wallets anymore, but I do keep the cash. Literally. I have this huge cardboard box full of money that I have hidden in the room I rent. I don’t know how much is in there, but it’s a helluva lot. One day Pop will show up again. I’ll hand him the boxful of money, he will throw me some bills, and then I’ll just stow them away without counting them. That’s what I think. Like I said, it was a Sunday when I saw this man and his son walking around an outdoor fish market. I’d just had a meal across the street at a Chinese restaurant. The food there sucks but they’re pretty generous...

The Articles of Confederation vs. the Constitution

...The Articles of Confederation vs. the Constitution DeVry University The Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution are the historical documents that have been the building blocks of democracy that America is known for today. The Articles of Confederation are in many way an extension of what makes up the United States Constitution. In 1777, there wear a combination of thirteen states that came together to mold a type of government document that the United States could determine as “central” style of government. These states included New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. By late 1787, the Articles of Confederation were replaced by a more complete United States Constitution. There are several differences and similarities that lead to this American government transformation. The origination of the Articles of Confederation were a dynamic that was set into place in order to safeguard the union of states from any foreign control. It was a time in which the newly born states were yearning to be a set of sovereign states but stay independent from British colony control. Thus, the Articles of Confederation were originated. There were several important aspects of the Articles of Confederation that helped the United States reach a somewhat government goal. In the articles, states were allowed to collect taxes from its citizens...

...EXERCISE I. What is a paragraph? Some of these groups of sentences are paragraphs and some are not. Read them carefully and answer the questions. 1- Iceland is not a place for the ordinary tourist. The landscape, for example, is bare and strange—though many consider it beautiful in its own way. Then, too, the far northern climate is not ideal for tourism. The winter weather is extremely severe and the summers are short and cool, with constant strong winds. The remote location also means that many products have to be imported and so they are expensive. However, the few tourists who do put up with these difficulties are warmly welcomed by the Icelanders. Is this a paragraph? _______ If it is a paragraph, what is it about? _____________________________________________ 2- For fewer tourists, lower prices, and more beautiful scenery, head for the Sagres Peninsula. The regional museum has a rich collection of costumes, weapons, and handicrafts. Buses will get you to most places, but for long trips, trains are cheaper and more comfortable. The Portuguese economy has expanded very rapidly in recent years, but it still has many problems. In the fifteenth century, Lisbon was a worldwide center of political power, religion, and culture. ...GM614 Global Advertising Professor Christin Walth Jenessa Carder, Chia-Ying Chen, Fango Lin, Yi-Hsuan Su, Ya-Ling (Claire) Wang, Winette Yee May 5, 2010 Swatch: The Global Watch The IMC Plan in Brazil, Japan, and Switzerland 1 Statement of Purpose Swatch (‗Swiss‘ + ‗watch‘) watches, created under the management of Nicolas Hayek, are fashion statements and pop-culture icons. They feature witty, outlandish designs that use intense colors and are youthful, provocative, stylish, and unpredictable. The mission of the IMC campaign is to tie the brand image with creative art in order to tell the brand story, strengthen Swatch‘s brand identity among the target audience (young students or professionals, aged 18-25) globally, and consistently incorporate different and relevant mediums (print ad, website, MTV – user-generated content, and online communities) to reach the target audience. The multi-country marketing analysis of The Swatch Group will aid in developing the IMC strategy and campaign for Swatch‘s CreArt (‗creativity‘ + ‗art‘) Collection in the following three countries: Brazil, Japan and Switzerland. When reading this, please be aware that Swatch did not impose an integrated marketing campaign in Brazil; rather, they only held one event and communicated to customers through Twitter. Therefore, the Brazil section is composed mostly of what The Swatch Group should do in order to meet their objectives. Furthermore, the cultural dimensions and components that will affect...
