In Jesus M Villahermosa Jr’s article “Guns don’t belong in the hands of administrators, professors, or students” he talks about the problems with arming faculty on campus. He argues that passing a law that allows students and faculty to bare arms in case of a shooting is dangerous. Instead of resolving a problem it will create more problems. He also argues that in order for the faculty to effectively respond to emergency situations, they have to go through training, which costs time and money. Villahermosa Jr says that as a sheriff he is willing to bare the responsibilities of shooting an innocent man, and the mental burden of killing a person. He urges the people who support the law arming school factually and students to think about the mental toll that comes with it. This argument provides unique prospective on the effects of shooting a person. Villahermosa Jr also points out the legal responsibilities that come with shooting a person. He points out that one will be facing jail time if they injure or kill someone by accident. This goes and in hand with this earlier argument that people often panic in stressful situations. If people do panic and shoot an innocent person by accident, not only did they cause more damage, they will have to spend time in jail dealing with the mental burden of hurting someone. Nina Zipkin, author of Arming Teachers: Three Reasons Why Teachers Should Not Carry Guns In School, says that having guns around children will effect them mentally and familiarize them with firearms. She argues that having children familiar with fire arms will make them think of violence as the only solution for problems. Also, children exposed to guns will never feel safe, the present of guns will always remind them of the possibility of death.
