What Is Right to Work Law

...arguments on claims that this law will strengthen the state's economy and raise its standard of living. In the state of Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner wants cities and villages to join his fight against organized labor. The Chicago Tribune posted (Trib) that “In an email to mayors across the state, the head of the lobbying organization for municipalities said Rauner has asked for city councils to consider a resolution asking the state to allow local right to work zones, as well as changes to prevailing wage laws and worker compensation laws.” Rauner has made it his number one goal to destroy the union structure as it is today. Similar to Wisconsin’s Gov. Walker whom achieved his goal finally on March 9, 2015 where even President Obama quoted saying “the new law is part of "a sustained, coordinated assault on unions, led by powerful interests and their allies in government." (Sentinal) My take on right to work is just this- A personal attack against the middle class. Before the Labor Laws went into effect allowing taxpayers the right to organize, charter and collectively bargain their working conditions, wages and benefits they had no voice. They had no way to bargain for what was fair and just. Even Mother Jones a teacher that lived in Chicago finally had enough when she took to the streets to organize and fight for mining workers that were killed on the job, paid very low wages, and forced children out of schools so that they could take the place of their fathers whom...

DUQUE THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction There is a substantial literature on the relationship between teacher characteristics and student learning. Most prior research on this topic has focused on teachers’ educational background, years of teaching experience and salaries. The results of this work are mixed. While it is clear that certain teachers are more effective than others at increasing student performance, there is considerably less consensus on whether specific, observable teacher characteristics such as education or experience produce higher performance. While most research has focused on general skills, school districts and states often rely on in-service staff development as a way to improve student learning. This on-the-job training seeks to instruct teachers in content as well as pedagogy. Professional development is an extremely widespread practice in...

Supporting Good Practice in Managing Employment Relations – 3mer

...Supporting Good Practice in Managing Employment Relations – 3MER 1.1 Describe 4 factors, 2 internal and 2 external, which impact on the employment relationship There are several external and internal factors that might impact on the employment relationship such as the following examples: External Factors: 1. Given the state of the recession and how it might have affected an organisation’s finances, this has a large impact on the employment relationship i.e. due to cuts there be maybe redundancies, therefore leading to loss of jobs. 2. Another external factor that might impact on the employment relationship is the social impact. Organisations must be able to meet the demands of the business whilst managing the needs of their employees who due to social factors such as family etc. means organisations have to offer incentives such as flexible working, home-working or job sharing and other benefits such as holidays etc. in order remain competitive in order to attract candidates. Internal factors: 1. An internal factor that might impact on the employment relationship is the employment contract. ACAS notes: “A contract of employment is an agreement between an employer and employee and is the basis of the employment relationship”. ACAS also notes “A contract of employment will contain some terms such as: Statutory terms- “imposed, varied or regulated by law such as the minimum statutory notice period”. Chelsea's Law; the Breakdown

...child under 14 and was thought to also be connected to other crimes near the area. (Mike von Fremd, 2010) On May 14, 2010 John Albert Gardner III was formally sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for the murder and rape of Chelsea and another teenage girl in northern San Diego County. Because Gardner was already a sex offender, both families of the victims called for changes in the criminal justice system on how they treat sex offenders. They received the backing of state legislator Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and have called for “Chelsea’s Law” that would give life sentences to sex offenders who attack minors, and also require a lifetime of GPS monitoring for sex criminals. If Gardner had not been allowed to get out of prison early, and live close to a school, perhaps these crimes could’ve been prevented. Below is how the criminal justice system played a role in this case. The police were the first authorities to be notified in this case and their job was to investigate the crime at hand, apprehend the offender, and provide emergency services to victims. Once they detained Gardner, their responsibility was to ensure due process. Through the due process, there are multiple steps regarding the hearing, trial, and sentencing. The criminal courts system then ensured the due process, conducted a trial that upheld the law, and...

...occurred. Their affect on equilibrium price, on decision making, and quantity is also to be analyzed. This paper will also refer to ways in which concepts about supply and demand can be applied in a real life-situation or in the workplace. The paper will also refer to ways in which concepts of micro and macroeconomics help in understanding factors that influence movements in supply and demand on the equilibrium price and quantity. Last, the paper will refer to how the price elasticity of demand has an impact on the consumer’s purchasing and on the pricing strategy of the firm Good Life. One of the macroeconomics principles comes up in the survey showing that people working in Atlantis are living in close by towns because the rent is less. The other from the simulation for macroeconomics is when the Gov. steps in and puts a ceiling of $1550 on the rent for all two bedroom apartments so that more people can afford to live in the city they work. This made Good Life rent only a small amount of their apartments just to make profit because of maintenance costs. Supply and demand got affected when lowering the rent to lower the vacancy amount and maximize revenue for the company. This is a temporary fix on a month-to-month basis and also an example of microeconomics. The second case of microeconomics is when the new corporation came in...
