Bituminous Material

Bituminous materials or asphalts are extensively used for roadway construction, primarily because of their excellent binding characteristics and water proofing properties and relatively low cost. Bituminous materials consists of bitumen which is a black or dark colored solid or viscous cementitious substances consists chiefly high molecular weight hydrocarbons derived from distillation of petroleum or natural asphalt, has adhesive properties, and is soluble in carbon disulphide. Tars are residues from the destructive distillation of organic substances such as coal, wood, or petroleum and are temperature sensitive than bitumen. Bitumen will be dissolved in petroleum oils where unlike tar.

Importance and background of Bituminous Material:
Bitumen is an essential component of any pavement and is used widely throughout the world. It can be termed as the building block of the pavements without which all the pavement materials would behave independently and thus will be deemed useless. Almost ninety percent of bitumen is used in road construction. It is usually available in dark colors ranging from brown to black. The main purpose of bitumen in flexible pavements is to strongly bind and hold the other pavement components together and provide a smooth and leveled surface for the moving vehicles. Bitumen is a naturally occurring material and is found in large quantities in the solid or semi solid forms of petroleum. It is also manufactured artificially in vast amounts globally.
Bitumen mixed with some other materials has always been used as a sealant and adhesive material over the ages. It was also widely used in the water proofing of boats and ships as it is insoluble in water. Highest applications of bitumen are found in the construction filed for the construction of roads, airports etc, in the hydraulic field for the construction of water...

...FORM 5 Novels The Curse Table of Contents Introduction Synopsis Elements Activities Assessment Answer Key Glossary Panel of writers THE CURSE NOVEL What is a novel? Only in a novel are all things given full play – D. H. Lawrence (( A novel is a long narrative in literary prose. Novels tell stories, which are typically defined as a series of events described in a sequence. The novel has been a part of human culture for over a thousand years, although its origins are somewhat debated. Regardless of how it began, the novel has risen to prominence and remained one of the most popular and treasured examples of human culture and writing. There have been stories and tales for thousands of years, but novels must combine a few unique characteristics in order to be defined as such. First, a novel is written down, rather than told through an oral account. Secondly, novels are meant to be fictional in form, differentiating them from myths, which are said to have their basis in reality or theology. Although some modern scholars argue differently, there is no truly established guideline for length, point-of-view, or even establishment of a moral or philosophical point in novels. Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc.

...Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. 1 Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. BUS 644 Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. 2 First we must incorporate priority rules. Priority rules are regulations which determine in which succession the orders in front of a production line should be worked (Stevenson 2011, p. 712). In deciding what priority rules to acclimate, an organization such as Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. should achieve the following objectives: 1. Meet due dates of the customers if the product goes directly to them or the downstream operations if the product is but an input of another. 2. Minimize the time the order spends within the process including wait time. 3. Minimize work-in-process inventory which inevitable ties resources which can otherwise be used in more productive activities. 4. Minimize idle time of both machine and human resources. Given these objectives, Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. can choose from different priority rules and some of the most popular are as follows: (Retrieved from table 16.2, Stevenson 2011, p. 712). First Come First Serve If Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. chooses this method to decide how the 5 orders are lined up, this will mean that the first order received will be processed first. To Be Violent and Not to Be Violent

...Samuel Cruz Professor Charlie Veric Literature 13 24 July 2014 To Be Violent and Not To Be Violent The 1986 People Power Revolution in the Philippines, Occupy Wall Street, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Gandhi’s Salt March, and Martin Luther King Jr. are well-known examples of nonviolent movements. Although they are not completely peaceful, these movements have a cause and people did not use violence to solve the problem. But how are we supposed to deal with psychopaths randomly killing innocent people? In order to protect peace and order, authorized people (i.e. military, policemen) should use reasonable violence to protect those who are vulnerable. Violence and Nonviolence are indeed ways to solve conflicts within the society. In an article by Max Fisher (2013), he stated that political scientist Erica Chenoweth showed that nonviolent revolutions have been more successful than violent once because violence caused by the participants will only make the government use violence to fight back, and it will also discourage participants to join because of the danger of being harmed in the crossfire. The story “The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel García Márquez showed how the crowd already resorted to violence to make the Old Man respond to them; but even so, the Old Man remained nonviolent throughout the story. This is all right because the Old Man had no one to protect except himself. If you can tolerate a bit of violence without being violent in return, then...

Responsible Corporation

...Responsible Corporation Corporation as a legal entity by law is granted the ability to obtain rights and obligations. While existing only on paper with the hands of their employees of various levels and shareholders a firm is created, operated, developed. The downside of being an ephemeral entity is that all the responsibilities of a corporation are assigned by law and directly linked to the main purpose of its mere existence. To generate profits in order to generate more profits in the future. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines responsible as “able to answer for one’s conduct and obligations and able to choose for oneself between right and wrong” (Merriam-Wbester Inc.). In this essay we are going to identify in what ways a corporation may realize its responsibility and how in practice some of these responsibilities are fulfilled. In his work on corporate social responsibility John Campbell discusses several dimensions of how it is possible to measure (social) responsibility of a corporation. Among them are mentioned the following levels: “how the corporation treats its employees with respect to wages, benefits, and levels of workplace safety; how it treats customers with respect to product quality, truth in advertising, and pricing; how ihow the corporation treats its employees, how it treats customers, how it treats its suppliers, how it treats the government, how it treats the community (p. 5). It possible to distribute these levels into two groups. Responsibilities......
