During my first early years of school, I loved school and did all my homework, had lots of friends and I lived with my grandma most of Elementary school. I always got good grades in school and never ran into any problems with anyone. In 4th grade I moved from rossmoor Elementary school to Juliette Low Elementary in Anaheim and moved with my mom. When I moved there I suddenly started to not do well and got into a lot of trouble. In 6th grade I eventually got everything together and started doing well again in school and adjusted back to my good old ways. In Junior High unfortunately I started to get worse due to the people i hung around and my overall laziness. My grades were all D’s and F’s and a couple of C’s. I still had lots of

The Meaning of Meanness

...Tziporah Nockenofsky, 337655518 The Meaning of Meanness: Popularity, Competition, and Conflict among Junior High School Girls Don E. Merten In this qualitative research paper, Merten examines the sociocultural construct of meanness, more specifically how competition for popularity influenced a group of girls in junior high to be blatantly mean to one another. The goal is to understand why meanness was considered acceptable and didn’t threaten the girls’ popularity and perhaps more importantly, to understand the mixture of social and cultural factors that exist behind this cluster of behaviors. Merten approaches the issue of meanness not because of a deficiency in existing field research but in order to focus on the relationship between competition for popularity and meanness. The clique he researched had become so embroiled in their mean spirited behaviors, they acquired a reputation of being the meanest girls in the school. Merten concentrates on analyzing the complicated factors that led to such a social reality. In earlier research of competition and its effects on human relationships, researchers worked from the suspicion that women were by nature less competitive than men. Females were found to prefer to use verbal strategies to diffuse personal conflict rather than confront any open competition. Eventually it...

However, teachers and faculty alike have even stated that the classes are not easy and should not be taken for the faint of heart. Personal Goals

...Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards.      While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this will require additional studying outside of my upper-division courses the CLEP test can help eliminate additional courses needed to be taken, so I can stay on track of my 2 year goal.      Writing papers has never...

Poisonwood Bible Reflection

...As my junior year winds down, the final chapter of my book is about to unravel: senior year. However, before I start exploring my horizons, which is going to be filled with new opportunities and memories to be made, it’s best to reflect on my experience in AP Language and Composition with Mrs.Miles throughout junior year. These past 8 months were filled with enlightening experiences. From the discussions and articles of the week to the countless essays we had to write. I believe that Mrs.Miles really focused on our writing skills, which I am awfully grateful that she did. Mrs.Miles has assisted in my growth in writing; as my grammar has improved, including the use of commas, colons, and semicolons. In fact, I am now knowledgeable of the fact...

Lit Review

...students and teachers. Several things are thought to be correlated to students feeling about science and their abilities to comprehend the subject. Onocha, (1985) reported in one of his findings that teachers’ attitudes towards science is a significant predictor of pupils’ science achievement as well as their attitude. In this present paper, students find the discipline within science boring and hard. It is hypothesized that the role of the educator will have a greater effect on the student than the students past learning experiences. Also, Chidolue (1986) stated teachers’ attitudes towards Biology teaching is one of the major contributors towards explaining the variance in students’ cognitive achievement. While Odubunmi (1986) and Odunsi (1988) were able to confirm that teachers’ attitudes towards Integrated Science teaching affected their students’ attitudes and their ability to learn the subject and Oqunwuyi (2000) found significant causal relationships between the teachers’ attitude and students’ achievement in Integrated Science. The following literature reviews will make an effort to demonstrate and support the hypothesis. In the research article by Prokop, P., Tuncer, G., & Chuda, J. (2007) they address the following questions as a guide for their study. First, what are students’ attitudes towards Biology lessons? Is there any difference between the mean scores of boys and girls on the six dimensions of the Biology attitude questionnaire? Is there any difference between...

Death and Children

...Wilder University of Phoenix PSYCH/600 April 7, 2014 Sarah Dross Death and Children This paper will discuss the finding from research gathered and personal experience that a child who loses a parent at a young age may struggle not only emotionally but also academically and socially. Losing a parent as a young child can have a detrimental effect on a child’s learning ability and emotional growth. Losing a parent at a young age can scare a child for life and make them emotionally detached and cause the child to have abandonment issues as an adult. How a death of a parent effects a child scholastically The death of a parent on any aged child is extremely painful and very difficult to understand. For a child who is still very young and just starting on their scholastic journey a death of a parent can be very confusing and hard to accept. A child in elementary school may not know how to answer the questions that their peers may ask them about the death. The child may also not understand how to handle the rush of emotions that they may experience when something reminds them of their parent that was lost. This is a very hard age to explain in great detail what has transpired and the child will have trouble grasping the reality of the situation. A child who loses a parent in middle school or junior high is more capable of grasping the situation and the finality of the event. According to "When a Parent Dies" (n.d.), Bereavement...

College Resume Idea

...service. The information on the resume must be factual, but this is the place where if your academics are not stellar and your soccer playing is, try to emphasize the great soccer player you are and make that jump off of the page. The academics will need to be on the resume too, but consider your strengths when you design your resume. Cover letters Every resume submitted to a college coach should be accompanied by a cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to introduce yourself to the coach in a more personalized fashion. Here is a good format for cover letters: Paragraph 1 – Introduce yourself and let the college coach know that you are interested in his/her program. It is always wise to mention that you have done research and be sure to include the name of the specific college in this paragraph. Paragraph 2 – Let the coach know that you have enclosed your resume that details your academic standing and soccer experience. Highlight your GPA and indicate what you would like to study in college if you know. Write about your H.S. soccer career and any titles or awards that you won. Paragraph 3 – Let the coach know how well you would fit into their program and why. Paragraph 4 – Discuss that you are researching financial aid (if you need to pursue if) let the coach know if you might also qualify for an academic scholarship. Understanding Human Development in Teaching

...Understanding Human Development in Teaching University of Phoenix Psy/280 Marie Cortes July 22, 2010 Understanding Human Development in Teaching In this paper I will address his or her understanding of Human Development. I will attempt to show how it will help him or her come to a thoughtful approach with the different stages of a child’s development. I will address such issues as; 1) The Personality Developments, 2) The Cognitive Developments, and 3) The Social Cognitive Developments. I will concentrate these developmental theories based on the age of the students he or she will be teaching (Junior High Science) when he or she graduates from University of Phoenix. Personality Developments at Age 12-14 There are a large amount of personality theories in the world today. I will focus my attention on the behavioral developments prevalent to this age group. The greatest behavioral developments that late adolescents will experience are risk-taking. These risk-taken experiments will help the child develop and shape his or her identity, give him or her the ability to try new decision-making skills, help with developing realistic judgments of him or herself, gain peer acceptance, and peer respect (ReCAPP, 2009). Oftentimes the risks these adolescents will take end with a legitimate threat to their health and well-being. The most common type of threat, today, is teen pregnancy. More teens today are becoming pregnant because of peer acceptance and respect...

Its a Tech World After All

...Scott Impens EG 371 Project Part 6 Final White Paper This is a technological world. Text messaging has replaced the phone call; Skype and Face time have taken the place of a face to face meeting. All of these things have changed the face of communication and business. It seems education is going in the same direction. More and more young adults and current professionals are taking distance education and continuing education classes over the internet. With the advances in technology, the internet, the use of laptops and tablets, has the virtual classroom taken place of the traditional one? Will online degrees be given the same respect as traditional ones? Through research we will find that more and more employers either are or will be giving equal respect towards online degrees. We also see that larger state universities are offering distance education degrees. They do this to help keep the cost of tuition down, making the opportunity greater for those to achieve a higher education. This will help relieve burdens of student loans growing into the hundreds of thousands depending on where you go to school. There is still a hurdle to conquer in this, and that is the high school student. When students are juniors and seniors in high school, they begin to anticipate where they will go to continue their education. Not only that, but this is going to be a very important piece of growing socially, learning how to take care of themselves, learn valuable responsibility...
