Just Give Them An F In “What Our Education System Needs Is More F’s”, Carl Singleton emphasizes that America’s education system could benefit from the idea of giving F’s to students who deserve them. Singleton believes that if education systems throughout the United States would raise their standards and start giving out failing grades, student’s motivation to learn the material would increase. He strongly advocates that all parties involved with the education system: teachers, parents, and the school boards contribute to the system’s failure. Singleton feels that teachers contribute by passing undeserving students who have not learned the required class material. He also states that parents would become more engaged with their children’s studies if they brought home more F’s. When it comes to the school boards, he says that students failing would cause schools to receive more funds. Overall, Singleton strongly believes that failing more students would better America’s education system (192-194).
Carl Singleton, a Fort Hays State University faculty member and author of “What Our Education System Needs Is More F’s”, from Writing from Sources, strongly believes that students who do not understand the required knowledge for a class should be given an F. In his article, Singleton claims: “The basic problem of our educational system is the common practice of giving credit where none has been earned . . .” (192). He states that, the main issue within America’s educational system is that students are receiving credit in which they do not deserve. With this in mind, Singleton stresses that unless a student understands a classes’ required material they should not be given a passing grade and therefore should not receive credit for that particular class (192-194).
In “What Our System Needs Is More F’s”, Singleton proposed the idea of failing more students. The first time I...

It serves as a moral compass for human beings. It is a sort of guideline. For me there are two extremes: heaven and hell. Hell indicates the bad and heaven is for the good. The preacher who actually came up with this idea wanted us to maintain the delicate balance and stay in the center. So yeah, it is a guideline for me. G: it is probably a way of life. Our faith tells us how to live our life, keeping in mind the afterlife M: And what constitutes it? E&F Business Management

...The Elliott & Fitch Shopping Emporium - Case Study Briefing Sheet for the HRD assignment 2 Name: XXXX ID:XXXX Refurnishing HR Decision For E&F Being back to the top in the industry seemed to the truth after a great effort in the transmission of company since the bad time in the early 1990s, however, E&F was not smart enough to merely adopt a cost-leadership HR strategy to make a reality of expansion in the Northwest. Now, like many companies who were blind in sweeping cost-cut approach E&F had no choice but seek to make something up (House & Hanges, 2000, pp4.). Following is the introduction of supporting theory behind the case, then before drawing a creative HRD plan, I will give the main reason and consequence of problems in the case. By doing this, I will offer two possible plans and compare them, which will finally lead to the conclusion. 1. Relevant Theory 1.1 Porter’s theory is not the unassailable First of all, it is essential to understand why a single HR usually caused several subsequent effects. It is very clear seem from the case that, in order to get capital to set up E&F’s expansion business plan, E&F’s HR strategy had to be put into harmony with company’s business’s strategy-cost leadership (Brewster & Harris, 2007, pp5-7). After Michael Porter promoted his generic strategy that involved two main parts: differentiation strategy and cost leadership strategy, in several decades had he been denounced about the......

Outliers Reaction Paper

...OUTLIER’S REACTION PAPER The book „Outliers‟ is basically are success stories wherein Malcolm Gladwell, a renowned writer, gives practical explanations of how extraordinary people gain success. The stories situated in the book always involve different aspects of success such as the environment, patience and hard work, coincidences and other things happening around. Basically, the ideas give „common-sense‟ answer to the question. These people have succeeded because of the things that surrounds them and not just only by themselves. As stated “It makes a difference where and when we grew up”, this clearly explains that a person don‟t achieve success not only by himself but it matters on the situations and opportunities that lies around him. Gladwell investigates place, time and culture of these success stories in order to come up with practical explanations behind it. This also includes the relevant events that happened in certain period of time where these people are part and been to these events. So in other words, these people have been to certain event in their lives that made them succeed. Gladwell thought of these idea to see the logic about being successful or not, in this case is by asking where these people came from. One way Gladwell explains it is by determining the important events in certain period of time which are based on patterns of birthdates of a group of people such as the Canadian hockey team, Czechoslovakian National Junior Soccer team and the people behind...

...Fighter Program the F-35 affect our Military readiness for the future? This was my question for the essay. I knew going in to this exploratory research assignment that I would be challenged to think outside the box and ask problematic questions about relevant topics. I thought about it and decided to write my paper on something that is familiar to me. I wanted it to be about something that I am experiencing at this very moment. After reading through more and more of the assignment it occurred to me I had never really researched an issue like this. I’ve been listening to a lot of Politics lately and shocked to hear stuff about what is happening to our country. I then found the Embry Riddle Aeronautics University’s HUNTS library. I never knew anything about APA style writing and to be honest, at the beginning, it is a lot to learn in a very fast way, in a short period of time. I found myself questioning if I could even complete this assignment, let alone this course. I have never been one to give up though, at least not in this stage of my life. Anyway, since I did that HUNTS Library training online I thought, HEY! This could be useful to find good information about issues that I hold dear, issues that I believe are borderline and just about to go over the edge, into the never ending black hole of immorality. I could finally research my question in a “scholarly” way. That word is a new one to my vocabulary! Sometimes it is hard to get into the zone and just write. So......

Negotiation Labor Simulation

...had a desire to win, and had our own interests that could have made the negotiation distributive, the best approach was an integrative approach. This negotiation was distributive in nature since it had to do with getting the “most” or “least” points yet it did not have to be. Since my team knew that a distributive approach would not lead us anywhere we decided to use an integrative strategy. For example, the other side was not going to give us a substantial increase in benefits regardless of our options so we needed to find a way to accumulate points a different way. Therefore, we began pushing for higher wages and we were able to get a fifteen cent increase to give us 3 points, we required that we signed the labor clause (+2), slight increase in benefits (+1), weak regulation( -1), and one management regulation ( -1), etc. Overall, as a team we accomplished a gain of 7 points. There was not enough time and the other side was not budging. We tried not budging as well but then both sides were going to not agree due to time constraints and take an “F”. We only had 20 minutes to do the negotiation, which was not enough time given the large number of categories. Most of the negotiation involved management talking in circles in order to stall on time. Due to the fact that both sides did not want to reach agreement and it was 7:30, I quickly bounced...
