Kaka’ako. When I think of Kaka’ako I think of Ward Village, Kaka’ako Waterfront Park, the Harbor, Ala Moana’s Beach Park, and several other things. When I think of Kaka’ako I think of the beauty that this place holds and how it looks now. But it has gone through so much, Kaka’ako’s future is currently being planned to be home to several people, while also carrying history as a home to people early on. Back in the days, this place was a home to many, carrying with it significant value that can’t be replaced to those who have grown up here. Not only that, there are future plans for Kaka’ako, plans of building condos and homes for people looking to live in Honolulu. Kaka’ako carries with it a considerable amount of history and homes. But Kaka’ako …show more content…
In Remembering Kaka’ako: 1910-1950, a man named Francis Zane described his life growing up in Kaka’ako. As a young Chinese boy growing up with twelve other siblings, his father barely made a living off of his $9 per hour job. When he was ten years old he helped out by selling newspapers down the block and as he grew older he did different jobs like coin diving and caddying at country clubs (Gouveia,1151-1163). He goes on to talk about the places he’s worked at and been while in Kaka’ako and even out of state, in the …show more content…
The proclamation comes after $1.3 million was identified to fund the efforts.” (Worland, 01). It has been a year since this article came out. I go to Kaka’ako quite often and I can say from my experience that I have seen some progress, but the problem still remains. We can’t completely get people off the streets and working their way back up to keeping a house on their own. Prices for homes on Oahu are high and many are losing their homes to people from the mainland who want to move

25th Hour

...start my story with that phrase too. Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away, there lived a princess who cleaned her closet. Ooopps... corny. Wala kaming kingdom, at hindi rin whatever once upon a time. It's modern day. And fairytales, don't come true in real life. Right now, the closet part was true. I'm cleaning my closet and my drawers. Ito yung binigay sa akin na relo ni Daddy nung nagpunta siya ng Canada. Hindi ko naman na ginagamit so might as well, isama ko na lang doon sa sako. Crap. Ito kayang bag na regalo naman sa akin ni Mommy nung nanalo ako sa Declamation ko? Marumi naman na so, wala na rin siyang kwenta. Crap. How about itong stuff toy na... Fine.. fine!! Bakit ba ako nag-aabala na tanungin pa yung sarili ko kung alam ko naman na yung mga nandito sa drawer eh yung mga hindi ko na ginagamit. Mostly, crap for me... not for others.

Reproductive Health

...Chapter I THE PROBLEM Introduction “Arming the youth with information,” one of the goals of the Reproductive Health Bill. In line with one of the two targets of Goal 5 - Improving Maternal Health - of the eight Millennium Development Goals which is achieving universal access to reproductive health by 2015. To achieve its goals, the bill provides for mandatory reproductive health education and that it be taught in "an age-appropriate manner... by adequately trained teachers starting from Grade 5 up to Fourth Year High School." As Iloilo Representative Janette Garin, author of the Reproductive Health Care Act says, “It’s very difficult to live in a society where we will be hypocritical and pretend that nothing is happening. But as early as grade 4 and 3, children, especially those in public schools, already have girlfriends and boyfriends.” Defined by United Nations (UN) on ICPD 1994, 'Reproductive health' is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and...not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and its functions and processes.” Considering the fact that we are a Christian nation, some people and religious groups find this topic very sensitive to be discussed among youngsters. In this regard, Filipino mothers have the “you-will-learn-when-you-are-old-enough” attitude. As with this, the researchers have come up to a study that would determine the knowledge regarding reproductive health of the high...
