In the beginning of Shakespeare's play, the Taming of the Shrew, Kate is presented as a short tempered, rude, and stubborn lady, and she is referred to as a shrew. There is no hope for her to be wed, especially due to these specific, unusual character traits, which are not commonly shown by women during this time period. Towards the middle of the story, one of the suiters is brave enough to try and tame Kate. In the end, they end up happily married, and Kate has been taught to be obedient and patient.
