Knowing the Audience and Communication Release
Communication releases about serious incidents that involve the potential for loss of life can have an impact on the future public opinion of an organization or company. Knowing who the audience is can help channel the efforts necessary to minimize the need for damage control. The manner, in which news is relayed to individuals in a time of crisis, can be detrimental to the family members and even the individuals that are experiencing the trauma.
The potential needs of the families of the miners would be to take care in the delivery of the message. The delivery of the message should be one of sincerity and concern. The family members in a devastating situation, such as that of the Chilean miners, would need to be regarded with care and consideration, considering their lives would have been turned upside down. Upon the initial release of the information the families should be given a reasonable amount of detail about the impending fate of their family member involved in the crisis. The consideration should be of privacy and also of constant feedback based on the efforts, being afforded to the individuals experiencing the devastation firsthand. The families would be in a state of shock and disbelief, but also possibly worried about their survival during this time, as the individual trapped in the mine was probably the sole breadwinner of the family.
The roles and the people receiving the information would be the family and the employees involved in the incident. The employees that were not initially impacted by the traumatic event would still need to be communicating with those who they could go to for support in the situation.
