Kong Qui, better known as Confucius, was born in 551 B.C. in the Lu state of China . Know also as a philosopher and creator of Confucianism who focused on creating moral models of family and public interaction, and setting educational standards in early China. Confucius expounded a system of social and political philosophy which he conveyed to a group of his students. His teachings and sayings were later collected by his students written in a book known as the Analects. In The Analects, Confucius describes the ideal person or otherwise known as the perfect gentleman. He talks about what it takes to become the perfect gentleman. Confucius was a descendant of a noble family Kun. He is related to such people as emperor of the Chou Chen-wang dynasty named Wei-tzu which was awarded for loyalty by Sun's realm. However for generations, the kin of Confucious has lost its influence and has become miserable. One of his ancestors named Mu Tsingfu had flee from his home lands and settle in the kingdom of Lu. His father, 63 years old Shu-Liang , a former magistrate and warrior and his mother 17 years old concubine Yen Cheng-tsai. Through his teachings, he was trying to resurrect the traditional values of amiability and rituals in Chinese society. Once Confucius stated that he is not an innovator of Confucianism and also that he just rediscovered all that knowledge is coming from the past. He said that society rejected this knowledge and it was his task to bring it back to its right condition. The teachings of Confucius are based on two areas. Social and Political teachings. Social teachings meant having a proper behavior in the society and how to be polite towards fellow men. Political teachings dealt with the specialty of goverment and right relationship of the Ruler to his people. He was using both teachings to make a wise scholar with a proper knowledge about society and goverment. In the book «Analects» his sudents were asking him questions about love to the fellow man and about the govermnet. He told them that there are three main requirements of the government adequate of food, adequate of military equipment and certainty of the people in their ruler. He said the most important of them is the certanity of the ruler because if people will not have the faith in their rulers there will be no food and no equipment. His students Confucius told that people should have sympathy towards each other and that they should stop treating others in a way that they would not wish to be treated. (“What you do

Confucius

...Analects of Confucius, written by his students, it establishes how to treat one another and how to govern appropriately (Chiang, 2004). If there was a dance dedicated to Confucius, it would be meditation. Through meditation, a person can pray and chant his teachings and thus would hopefully inspire them to act honorably throughout life. With Confucius’s teaching on kindness and benevolence, it has helped shaped my own interpretation of a peaceful society, which might come true in the near future. Although Confucius was believed to have lived around 500BC, there is not a single person in Asia who have not heard of his name before. Confucius’ real name is Kongqui, Kong being his family name and Qui being his given name; however, in modern terms he will be known as Confucius, which roughly translates to “Master” or “Teacher Kong” (Huang, 2013, p.1)....

Leadership Styles

...09/26/2012 Organizational Behavior Leadership Styles There are many great leaders and thinkers in the history of man kind, but I have chosen three that intrigued me the most. The first two are from the same country of origin and the same time frame as well, but two very different views on life. I felt that Lao Tzu and Confucius would show a good contrast in two different thought processes. The third person I chose to write about is from a completely different country and time frame. Machiavelli is more similar to that of Confucius but with his own twist of life and what needs to be accomplished to govern a population successfully. The following is a very small and basic explanation of the thought processes of these great thinkers. According to (Cotterell 2003) Lao Tzu was the man also known as the ‘madman of Ch‘u’, or the first of the ‘irresponsible hermits’, according to the Confucians, was Li Er who was born around the time of 604 BC, but has become usual in China to refer to the founder of Taoism as Lao-tzu, the Old Philosopher. He was the keeper of the royal archives at Loyang, but few details are known of his life. Lao-tzu was ‘a hidden wise man’, who was reluctant to form a school and gather a following, and partly because of this the Confucians believed he was irresponsible. More so however it is because of the way he lived while teaching others in his way. Confucians believed in structure and hierarchy, and this was the...

Women

...12:06 Page 1 WOMEN, GENDER AND WORK People are not defined solely by their work, nor is it possible to ignore the effects of factors outside the workplace on a person's status at work. To seek equality at work without seeking equality in the larger society – and at home – is illusory. Thus an examination of the issues surrounding women, gender and work must be holistic. That means considering the role of productive work in life as a whole and the distribution of unpaid work as well as the myriad questions relating to employment. This important anthology brings together the thinking of leading philosophers, economists and lawyers on this complex subject. Selected recent articles from the multidisciplinary International Labour Review are assembled for the first time to illuminate questions such as how we should define equality, what equal opportunity means and what statistics tell us about differences between men and women at work, how the family confronts globalization and what is the role of law in achieving equality. There is an examination of policy – to deal with sexual harassment and wage inequality, for example, as well as part-time work, the glass ceiling, social security, and much more. A major reference on the best of current research and analysis on gender roles and work. Martha Fetherolf Loutfi has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Labour Review, a Senior Economist for the Brandt Commission and in the ILO’s Employment and Development...

Professional Accounting in the Public Interest

...Chapter Four Professional Accounting in the Public Interest, Post-Enron Purpose of the Chapter When the Enron, Arthur Andersen, and WorldCom debacles triggered the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), a new era of stakeholder expectations was crystallized for the business world and particularly for the professional accountants that serve in it. The drift away from the professional accountant’s role as a fiduciary to that of a businessperson was called into question and reversed. The principles that the new expectations spawned and renewed resulted in changes in how the professional accountants are to behave, what services are to be offered, and what performance standards are to be met. These standards have been embedded in a new governance structure and in guidance mechanisms, which have domestic and international components. The influence of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) will be as important as that of SOX in the long run. This chapter examines each of these developments and provides insights into important areas of current and future practice. Building upon the understanding of the new stakeholder accountability framework facing clients and employers developed in earlier chapters, this chapter explores public expectations for the role of the professional accountant and the principles that should be observed in discharging that role. This leads to consideration of the implications for services to be...
