SUBJECT: Technology integration

The following recommendations are in response to your request for a review of your information systems and the need for improvement in accounting operations.

In reviewing Kudler’s key business and accounting needs it has been determined that they have several areas that need to be addressed. clients. The first issue is that of ordering and bookkeeping. Due to growth and expansion, it is impossible for one individual to complete all ordering. Kudler already has the structure in place for an inventory manager, Therefore it is recommended that an individual be hired to fill this position. This will allow for Ms, Kudler to focus more on the overall operations of the company.

The implementation of the Retail Enterprise Management System (REMS) has been beneficial to the company. However, the company is not fully utilizing all of the components included in its software package. There are also components that need to be added for successful support of Kudler operations.

Stronger accounting practices need to also be enacted. The current REMS system has six key accounting modules installed. They are General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Point of Sale, Bank Reconciliations, Asset Management and Accounting and Security. Each of these modules needs to be fully taken advantage of . It would also be beneficial to purchase the asset management module. It would allow for better tracking of fixed assets and there depreciation. Next is the issue of accounting for cash transactions with local vendors. A purchase order system is already in place and should also be used for these transactions. It will allow for better accounting of these processes and streamline the process.

Another issue that needs to be addressed is that if inventory control. Kudler’s current inventory consists on average of about 12% perishables. Current Point of Sale systems need to adjust inventory levels. This will give management the ability to order and monitor inventory levels from from a central location.

Another opportunity is the human resource department. Kudler currently uses Quickbooks to process its payroll and outsources the processing to Intuit. However, there is no central file area and all files are paper. It would be beneficial to use all of the features of QuickBooks , which would allow for electronic storage of key employee information.

Kudler’s marketing strategy also needs to be addressed. They currently just run ads in the weekly paper. It is recommended that the company invest in virtual advertising in order to reach an even broader market.

As for security, it is imperative that policies be created in regards to finance and accounting systems. It is also important that audits be preformed on the embedded security features of REMS. This will help to ensure that the system is working correctly .

In today’s ever changing technology environment, Kudler must also be proactive in order to prevent hacks into its system. These system breaches could lead to the transmittal of private employee and customer information including social security numbers, credit card numbers and bank accounts. Kudler needs to ensure that they have the most current firewall in place and that the system is being monitored 24 hours a day for breaches and threats.

In conclusion, Kudler had made significant improvements to its business and accounting practices. However, by taking full advantage of its new systems the company can expect continued success and improved efficiency.
